  1. I began typing a reply with additional reasons why I think it was just a braindead move by Bell and not malicious, but then I backspaced it all and wondered why the hell am I wasting precious braincells giving Bell the benefit of the doubt.
  2. The song has been played at the end of countless graduation, retirement, and other ceremonies, so I wouldn't be too concerned about the song choice. As braindead as Bell is, it's still hard to believe they purposely picked a song called Good Riddance to be malicious. It's realistic that, like in most of these situations, the person in charge said something like "Let's go with that 'Time of Your Life' Green Day song" and the person at the controls put on the song. I don't think they were being mean, I think they were being lazy.
  3. And Donnie's epic callback on Sportsnet Connected
  4. Personal preference, but I’m not a fan of Kesler’s on-air personality. Being a former NHL obviously comes with huge built-in cred, but he doesn’t do a great job of sharing his insights unless prodded. A lot of broadcasters can make up for that by being entertaining, but he doesn’t do that either. He was sort of an anchor on his podcast with Bieksa and gave Kevin nothing to work with in the early episodes. The best on air hosts know that they’re entertainers and not to take sports reporting too seriously. I’ll give him a chance, but not every athlete makes a great commentator. I don’t think Ryan is one of those that naturally has it.
  5. I hope anti-maskers start wearing one mask to rebel against wearing two.
  6. A contract can say (almost) whatever you want. The contracts were signed before Bell's decision to shut the station down, so it wouldn't be out of the ordinary in their industry to have non-compete clauses built into their contracts to dissuade talent from leaving and working at a rival. I don't know what their contract looks like but the enforceability of the clause usually does not depend on why the talent left, but since Bell shut the station down it'd be nothing but pure evil if they were not going to waive it now.
  7. I really hope 650 grabs Donnie, but I wonder if he'll go back after being booted out by them before.
  8. Just turned to 650 and hear that Ryan Kesler is going to be a new regular guest. This is not going to be an easy transition.
  9. All laid off employees have to remove TSN from their handle, so he changed his to: https://twitter.com/SadClubCommish His old handle will lead to dead links
  10. That part could possibly be true, but disproportionately reported on. It’s not extraordinary for security to be around during layoffs. I highly doubt anyone was physically thrown out if they took one minute too long or anything. But you don’t want anyone doing something they’ll regret in a highly emotionally charged atmosphere.
  11. And he'll still be doing CFL stuff if there is still going to be CFL stuff.
  12. I think that'd be a Rogers decision but I would LOVE to have Donnie as our new color
  13. That show could be produced relatively cheap today. Heck, one of Donnie's teenage kids could probably hook him up with a streaming setup that'd work just fine especially in this day of home studio broadcasts.
  14. I say they need to give Donnie a Coaches Corner-type intermission show. Let him go on his self proclaimed "old man rants". Let him talk for five minutes about the Devo concert he went to in the 70s. Anything. Give us Donnie.
  15. Cam's word carries a lot of weight. He's been benched by Torts himself on a few occasions.
  16. There has to be a major rift already if he's pulling the benching card this early in Laine's tenure. Benching for the remainder of the 2nd to send a message, I would understand. But for half the game is excessive and must go beyond one missed play. This one isn't going to end pretty and I've got my popcorn.
  17. It really sucks when your buddies move on, but they need to grow up if that’s what’s got them down. It happens to every team. It happens in any occupation!
  18. If the Canucks spirit wasn’t crushed completely already, how do they get up from losing this one after the start they had?
