Jim did some good drafting, but even there his record is somewhat overrated. His FA spending was pretty atrocious. Trades .... eh ... average at best.
But actual on-ice results are the currency you can't argue with. This has become a dysfunctional team and there's a lot reasons why and lots of people to point fingers at. Jim rolled some serious dice on OEL this summer and I appreciated that. But even though OEL (and Garland) has been okay, the resulting mess of this season is hard to accept or overlook. As others have pointed out, Jim seems to have difficulty in building a cohesive roster. It's really just a collection of mostly unconnected parts. He had time, he did some good things, but the direction of the team in the here and now justifies his firing. Tough business this.
