  1. or we simply move hansen our pick and maybe a 3rd to move up a couple spots. Edmonton has no need for another high skill player up front, they need a goalie and gritty veterans. We can help them with the gritty vet with a good cap hit in Hansen (helps remove a redundant player for us) and they only move down 3 picks and still can get a good player and solve part of their issues. Personally I think whomever is our GM really needs to do his best to move up, it shouldn't cost that much given where we are at number 6 If I am Edmonton or the Isles I am happy to make that move..I cant see Buffalo or Florida being interested in that as they are still in need of acquiring high end talent..Edmonton yes, Calgary won't for personal reasons, and the Isles same spot as Edmonton (and it would only be one spot). So we should be able to move to at least top 5 and hopefully number 3
  2. guys 5'11 is not that small..its not like these offensive euros are briere/st louis size...and given they are 18 they will grow an inch or two... is 6' small? no
  3. what will also be interesting is given the real difficulty in figuring out the draft order, is looking back in about 4 years to see if teams made the right decision or not. clearly there will be some busts and surprises...lets hope we get the surprise!
  4. Is it me or does Draisaitl not appear to be the a very good skater?
  5. they are probably scouting the guys in the 4-10 range heavily....don't think you can read to much into that man
  6. Bennett/Reinhart Then Draisaitl, but yes agree, that would be the best outcome. I really think this team needs a playmaker who can score vs just a pure scorer Alot of people are screaming for Virtanen, and while I haven't seen him play, his numbers suggest pure scorer with speed, which is great, but in the NHL you need set up guys for players like that to be effective. Unless the guy is Pavel Bure 2.0 he's not going to do it on his own at the professional level. Creative players that make others miss, that force defenseman to move out of position, and then can exploit it with a good pass in a player's wheelhouse is what leads to goals, not heads down and shoot (ie Booth and Kesler). How many of Kesler's goals are from rushes? How many are on pp's where he one times in the right spot (same can be said of ELITE players like Stamkos and Ovie)... Reality is folks hands are useless unless you have the playmaker. We need creativity and playmaking skills. Kassian looks to have those skills but other than that, who do we have? Is Horvat that player? Don't know, Cassels? The best of all worlds would be we draft up and get a guy like Reinhart/Bennet who can do both This is why I like Ehlers and am against going after a Virtanen
  7. People are so focused on 'height' and weight Sure we don't want a Schroeder size, unless the guy has elite skills like a Kariya or St Louis, but those players are hard to find/predict That being said, players who are 5'10 and 5'11 are not small folks and they are 18 so likely to grow a couple more inches. What matters is not 'height', what matters is the ability to play in traffic, to win battles. What we need, and its clear is not just size, its creativity, speed and skill. Would anyone here really pass on Patrick Kane because of his size? If he was in the draft and around our pick, I bet alot here would say no, too small. Reality is the draft is a crapshoot you never know how a player will turn out, size or not. Ie Alex Stojanov had size didn't he? We need a player who can be a game changer and make the players around him better. Sakic was 5'11 when drafted, so was Yzerman, as was Pavel Bure, were those guys too small at 5'11? Umm no Take the best offensive player available, a kid who can play in traffic, a kid who is fearless, a kid who can skate, create, and has speed and skill. Not suggesting we take a player that plays like MayRay, but if one of those Euro's (who I have not seen play) has elite skills, perhaps we need to consider it vs chasing after players that may turn into Booth 2.0 or play a heads down game like Kesler You cannot teach skill...anyone think Shinkaruk is too small or can't make it? I seem to recall the way he played in the preseason, we had thoughts of Patrick Kane 2.0... We have size folks, we don't have the skill we need around it, that's why we don't score. Ehlers is 5'11 and light, he will put on weight. he has 20 points in 9 playoff games Concern is his stats are padded from playing in the Q and with Drouin. Last year, people said Drouin's stats were padded from playing with McKinnon, yet we saw they weren't You cannot teach the type of offensive talent this kid has. If I am the Canucks, I draft this kid and hopefully in a side deal get another first rounder to get the 2/3rd liner with size and hands everyone wants here. Would not be surprise to see him go top 5 either.
  8. pretty simple, move hansen or higgins plus our sixth to get 3 Edmonton has no need for another top pick in a draft like this and can use some vets
  9. you realize that past drafts and where we picked have no impact on current drafts right? wow just wow
  10. why is it shady that the worst teams have the best chance at number 1? lol....if you finish sixth its not rigged because you have a tough time moving, the whole idea is to bring more parity to the league by helping weaker teams get the best players so that the league as a whole improves lmao typical woe is me canucks fan, its rigged because we didn't get number! lol
  11. please walk us all through his system that you so dislike you have no clue what his system is and all the armchair coaches in here think they do even the players say they didnt play his system the second half, and the first half they played great so, you know more than the players? wow have you been in the video room with the team? have you been on the ice? have you heard him talk to his players about how they should play? answer to all that is no, therefore you have no clue, nor do I or anyone what his system is, you have an opinion grounded in the failure of the players to do their jobs.
  12. tanev and our 6th? are you on crack? ya..ya you are
  13. I don't think Calgary would allow Bennett to get by them...or even the Isles....but stranger things have happened. Its a weird draft and your comments do make sense...all those teams have those needs/desires so who knows I would prefer us to make a move up with a team that may not get who they want. ie Edmonton. Move the 6th and Hansen for their 3rd, they may bite. Gives them a gritty veteran, which they are in desperate need of, and they only drop 3 spots.. It should be easier to move up in a draft like this since outside maybe Ekblad there is no real dominant player in the top 6-7 that could bust or may be a star...
  14. Upside is Edmonton and Islanders would likely both be willing to trade with us to get some vets. 6th, Hansen, Edler, Schroeder 5th, Martin, Strome
  15. So who does Florida take? I am thinking it has to be Ekblad. Good for Florida they really need the pick and good for Lou. Spoiled brat rich kid 'its all fun and games to us ' lol
  16. so when do we finally fire the players? seems like 2 coaches isn't enough for the angry mob here Is it 3? 4? before people want to accept this team is not the right mix? FOR ANY COACH Oh the following players say hi - if you're going to say the players didn't play well, or insinuate (which it seems like you may have been saying, not sure) kassian biekda hammer santorelli richardson lack tanev stanton booth second half kesler had a decent year hi
  17. Deb, Lets look at these injuries http://canucks.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=39938 Folks, please stop assuming things before you ACTUALLY LOOK at the injury list The majority of our injuries to our core this year HAD NOTHING, I REPEAT NOTHING to do with blocking shots Other than Burrows' foot - who typically blocks shots, Stanton and Tanev, who as defenseman have to block shots (and not even sure if that was the cause), the vast majority were not a result of Tort's system. It is an ignorant, sorry, view of hockey and systems to suggest as such. In fact, even the players have said, getting in shooting lanes was a big part of AV's system and any system in the NHL, just watch a game or two for God's sake and you'll see. This is just another 'pile on' torts attempt by weak minded media There is no need to accept it. if people want to hate on Torts, fine, hate on him for his record and legitimate issues, but don't accept contrived, stupid ideas as facts, when they are not.
  18. i will repeat anyone who watched the torts presser and still thinks he should be fired knows nothing about hockey and coaching that man said everything that finally needed to be said and clearly he has coached this way all year the players did not respond lets call a spade a spade here folks. AV was fired because he 'lost the room' it had become complacent and lost its drive torts was brought in, in the hopes someone could salvage that, motivate this group injuries played a big role but clearly, the issue is the MIX...its not the coaches if you have ever coached anything and you listened to his words, it was like listening to gospel, to a real detailed understanding of his group, team dynamics, the strengths and weaknesses of this team, and himself. this man is very self aware, he is a brilliant leader....this group has failed and needs changes, but that doesn't include the coach.
  19. There is a reason the players were saying it was them There is a reason the leadership group stood behind torts For me I was on the fence with him until I saw that interview For anyone who UNDERSTANDS COACHING - those that do will understand what kind of a hell of a coach we have there That man gets it...and his players need to play and he needs depth Do not fire Tortarella - you'd really need to understand coaching to get my point.
  20. I agree, his words today sounded very genuine, they were not 'prepared' and I too noticed his anger when Farhan Lalji asked that question, and he responded about twitter - he was annoyed I think this guy, like Bieksa bleeds Canucks, and if you think that Trev didn't send a message today about who his "core" is by placing the Twins, Juice and Kesler at the presser to answer questions.....well i can't help ya I don't think Kes is going anywhere and sounds to me as well as though MG probably tried to move him to save his own hide, and Acqua man probably blocked it and then said WTF - umm you're fired dufus.
  21. I guess the temp gdt isnt temp anymore? lol
  22. \ he moved his arm and when they were talking to him i saw him move his head a bit, which is a good sign
