  1. Whats your opinion on Russian prospects? Is it worth the risk to draft if they may leave....

Would you take the risk of drafting Andrei Svechnikov if he is the clear #2 prospect in next years draft and we so happen to have the # 2 spot?

I think it really depends on what league they're in at the draft. We see a lot of Russians who joined the CHL who have stayed in the NHL through thick and thin. The Russians who seem to dart (ie. Nichushkin and Tryamkin) are the ones brought over directly from KHL to the NHL/AHL.

I think when a Russian joins the CHL, it shows that they are most likely commited to the NHL at that point.

I think that it's worth the risk with the right players. If it was me i would want to talk to the player about his commitment to playing in NA before drafting him but that sometimes isn't always possible.

The thing is though, it's one thing for the player to claim they want to come over and player over here. It's another thing to show they will have the commitment. It's the cliche saying of "actions speak louder than words". An interview only goes so far whereas actually having come over and showing you want to play over here via the CHL or through some other means shows they want to be here. I'm pretty sure players like Nichushkin said in their draft interview they wanted to be over here. He even showed up to the draft.
