  1. You're coming off a your 3rd year off an ELC- you got 2 options- sign a fat paycheck and take 8 million to play top 6, top 2D pairing.... your family will be set for life money wise, your children and grandchildren will be rich, you will have the best house on the block and nicest clothes. More importantly if you get injured half way through your 8 year deal, you wont be left bald and bankrupt because you have been forced to retire...

Now would you rather take a 10% cut compared to similar players, settle for 6.5-7M and potentially lose 8 to 10M over 8 years, BUT this gives the team more space to find better players to play with you and potentially win a cup if not multiple....

    What would you do?

Never take less first time around if the team is buying free agent years.

      Term over AAV.

Your options, if I understand correctly are:

      1) 8y x $8M = $64M - or - 2) 8y x $7.2M = $57.6M - difference - $800k per annum / $6.4M life of contract or 10%

I would take the 8x8 seven days a week, twice on Sundays.  Giving the management $800,000 per year "wiggle" room (10% less) will have very little difference on what the team can or cannot add.  It's up to the management to make the cap work to build a winner.

But imagine if your top 3  all takes a 10%... and #1D and goalie.... can save 4mill approx - equivalent to a good 3rd DMAN- or top middle 6 forward.

  2. Fleury oh Fleury

He can't hear your as he's got multiple cup rings plugging up his ears.:P

  3. Lets think real talk..... 1st round pick in 2022 (not protected), 2nd rd pick this year, Lind, and Pearson?
  4. Ericksson, Roussell, and Virtanen for his rights
  5. I dont mind signing him for a year deal, max x2- man is willing to block shots. 2 mill and most likely move at deadline
  6. Target Danault as a 3C?

I don’t think we’d be able to afford him.

I get the feeling he will be very expensive and one of those contracts a team will regret giving him. The magic might not work in a place other than Montreal. I could easily see him getting $5M for a long-term deal and underperforming, especially as he ages into his 30s.

It would remind me of Benning signing Sutter to the deal he did, except Sutter was 27 years old back then and Danualt is already 28.

    4. Trebreh

      Trebreh

his salary will be inflated due to his playoff success so far. He's pushing 30 and will be looking for a long term deal. Could be a new Brandon Sutter for us.. hard pass.

  7. If they do preseason- would be nice to have a game in Abbotsford and Penticton
  8. This is purely for fun, on draft day Seattle makes a splurge trading away the 2nd OA pick and x prospects from another team for Eichel and Skinner (40% cap retained) from Buffalo.... This gives Eichel a chance to become a face of franchise that will be better managed and can take on his cap and some of Skinners. Seattle goes on and targets pending UFA's .... No Ovi and Landeskog will stay on their teams. Ryan Nugent Hopkins gets signed for $6.5 Million to play amongst a strong Eichel. Taylor Hall signs for a 7 year deal at 8 Mill per. Zach Hyman signs a 4.5 M x 6 yr deal to move West and leave cap hell of Toronto Coleman /Granlund can work the 3rd line at 2.5m each. D remains a mystery but Barrie/ Larrson can look to get signed to the team.... Just feel it would be funny if a bunch of players tried making a superteam like the NBA....
  9. Why is their a beach ball in the lower bowl of the Vegas game? what happens if a fan smacks it on to the ice ? Delay of Game against vegas seems appropriate imo

well for one Covid doesn't exist in the states... haha and Nets there are nets all around the ice surface it would take a decently high hit to get it over the nets.

I remember in 2017 I was at Rogers Arena and they were playing the Kings, they had a huge beach ball there go into the Kings bench. No whistle or anything they just hit it back into the crowd.

  10. DiPietro and 9th OA Pick = 6th OA Pick and Seider or another D prospect We get a DMAN and move up , they get a goalie they were aiming for with their 6th pick
  11. We talk about the president trophy curse: Since the 1985-86 season, Presidents' Trophy winners have won the Stanley Cup only eight times: 1986-87 Edmonton Oilers, 1988-89 Calgary Flames, 1993-94 New York Rangers, 1998-99 Dallas Stars, 2000-01 Colorado Avalanche, 2001-02 Detroit Red Wings, 2007-08 Detroit Red Wings and 2012-13 Chicago Blackhawks. On the other hand the Hart Trophy, is awarded annually to the "player judged most valuable to his team" in the National Hockey League (NHL). What if I told you since 1987/88 season only 3 players who won the Hart Trophy have won the ultimate prize, Stanley Cup! I didn't include the previous year due Gretzky/ Oilers. But since then in the last 33 years; Messier won both in 89/90 Sakic in 00/01 St. Louis in 03/04 No one has won both both in the salary cap era! Just goes to show why having a superstar season for your team may not generate the best result. Winning takes a team effort! So for the McDavids out there, keep winning
  12. Keep Sutter as a 4th line Centre for cheap.. keep Miller to score for now. If we draft a 2way centre , send him to junior for 2 years. Replace Miller in the future as 3C. Miller come then can hopefully resign for cheap ish.
  13. can include conditional picks for the following draft based on performance of players.
  14. Eichel and Skinner for Seattles 1st round pick, and players that will follow in terms of acquiring. They drop 18 mill approx in cap and get a fresh start
  15. Stamkos has been injured, not the same player he was to be. Move him to Seattle even if they bite, him and Johnson can be moved together and get first round picks back
  16. Myers, 9TH OA, Pearson, 2022 2nd round pick Jones and Domi ?
  17. Que Fire Benning for not resigning him Stetcher never showed that flash once
  18. St Louis Blues highest 3F, 2D, 1G = 37.1M. Cap Max = 79.5M => 46.7%
  19. With the rebuild being 7 years in the making, we have been compared lots to Toronto and Edmonton as they are north of the border. We have seen both teams fail despite having elite/ generational talent amongst them. The problem being the amount of $ tied up in those players. Tampa has had definitely had the benefit of no tax in their state allowing players like Kucherov, stamkos, hedman to take good salaries. Colorado has one of the best contracts in Super Mario. Yet Makar and Grubauer are both due to resign and their biggest % of cap is taken by Rantanen, a player who has scored 30G on average and had a break out season this year with 30G in less games. With us being in the west we have to go through the AVS ultimately and Vegas to win a cup. --- With no player making more then $10M in the cap era getting past the first round , other then Carey Price now. Cap management is a must to get depth players. If MacKinnon took a deal that he is worth, he would be making 11M plus imo, but that prevents the Avs from having an extra top 6 forward, a top 4Dman. -- Now I know this is extreme, but I do see shades of the AVS in the Canucks. Landeskog = Miller MacKinnon = Petey Rantanen = Boeser Kadri/ Jost = Horvat Makar = Hughes Grubaeur = Demko --- Now with the above being stated, yes I do realize the AVS are the better team, but with proper cap management we may have a chance to one day beat the AVS and win a cup. If Petey and Hughes are both willing to take cap friendly deals, and with them hopefully seeing why the Leafs and Oilers fell. Petey @ 8M X 8 yrs , Hughes @ 7M x 8 years. -- Demko imo took a cap friendly deal, he will be the 14th highest paid goalie in the league and one of the younger netminders. From the goalies that played half the games in the regular season (28GP) he had the 10th best Save Percentage (with the slow start from the team and COVID). We do need to work on finding a cheaper replacement then Holtby come next year. With Benning being aggressive in the off season and the ability to move salaries as per the Owners. In 2 to 3 years we will have to resign Horvat, Boeser, Miller (by then no $&!#ty contracts left (fingers crossed). --- 2022- 2023 Roster Miller (7M) - Petey (8M) - Boeser (7.5M) Hoglander (5M) - Horvat (7.5M) - Poldkozin (4.5M) Pearson (3M) Hughes (7M) Schmidt/ Myers (12M) Demko (5M) - Some may say its not reasonable to get Petey to take 8M with Ericksson making 6, remember that Boeser and Horvat took less then Ericksson! --- The AVS highest 3F, 2D, 1G make 35M = 43% of the cap space. The Lightning make 60.1M Now why the Lightning is a powerhouse despite their high cap space is due to their drafting skills. Reasons why it will be beneficial to keep Benning. They find talent in their later picks and allow cheaper ELC contracts replace higher cap contracts (Miller). -- Anyways this is me procrastinating and bored. Flame Away
  20. Move the 1st OA to Seattle with Skinner's contract. Take a few depth players back to clean up the mess, and a few 2nd rounder's theyll get
  21. Atleast we didnt drop 2 spots... thats a win?

    1. goalie13

      goalie13

It counts as a win around here.

  22. Tarasenko anyone , maybe not a 35G + season but I can expect some 25G seasons
  23. Not to be over hyping him, but him and Horvat will be a good duo.... Poldkozin can hit and out work anyone, he has a good work ethic and isnt afraid to get dirty. I'm not sure if Hoglander will work with Horvat and Poldkozin, but Poldkozin will be an upgrade on Pearson if he gets top 6 time. Wouldnt be surprised if Green gives him time on the penalty kill and 2nd PP unit
