Praying we get the #1 OA pick.
-
So assuming the Sedins do retire this year do we look at signing Tavares as 14 mill gets free'd up? Yes I do realize, the Islanders will try to resign him asap but just for discussion...
We get a #1C that could replace Henrik allowing us to get an elite forward, speeding up our rebuild....
Thoughts? His points/ game and +/- stat are better against Western conference teams compared to Eastern (yes there is a smaller sample size)
What does a Tavares contract look like no matter who signs him?

"Could be an announcement this week. The Canucks are getting close to a long term deal with Bo Horvat"
As per Rick Dhaliwal
-
Watch Donald Trump blame Jose for all the destruction caused this year by Hurricanes just because the name doesn't sound 'white'
-
So with the way Bennett is and the contract talks with the Flames... do we pull something similiar to Granlund/ Shinkaruk trade and make an offer of Virtanen + a mid pick for Bennett?

Now is not the time to trade Virtanen. His value likely couldn't be lower, but his drive and motivation is likely the highest its ever been. Look for him to have a good showing at camp.
I'm really curious what the Bennett group is asking for. It has to be at least around 3 mil per year, if not more, since his ELC was $875,000. Calgary may have offered 1.2 or 1.4 million, and that's rather fair for a young kid who had a $&!# season.

What happens once the Sedins retire (assuming its this year /next year)?
I doubt Pettersson will be ready, so does Gagner become our 2C until then

Unless our young guys take some dramatic steps forward and high caliber players that don't usually get to UFA make it to UFA we're gonna continue to have some rough transition years. It'll be fun watching our guys develop and take over the team but I don't see the rough years ending for a while yet.

Assuming we do sign Vanek for short term, low $. Do we see him on the top line with Horvat and Boeser. No offence, but Baertschi is getting lucky with Horvat in my opinion as Burrows did with the Sedins. Not saying they're bad players, by all means they are good at what they do. Vanek did have a good year last year and could get upto 25 G with Horvat and act as a mentor for Horvat.
Gives us a chance to see how Horvat is without Baertschi as I personally don't see Baertschi in our long term plans with Horvat.
Thoughts? I'm all for trading Vanek/ Baertschi at the deadline if the price is right...

Rumour has it Bo's contract will be announced next week.
1) Don: "A little birdie has told me early next week." - for an announcement of a Bo Horvat contract - @DonnieandTheMoj from twitter
2) Canucks are going to announce the Horvat contract when
@Sportsnet650 officially launches on Sept 4th aren't they.. - As per @taj1944 from twitter -
So who will be our 2nd alt captain this coming season?
My vote is for Horvat as he is most likely to get the C once the Sedins retire, unless Pettersson jumps into the NHL soon and makes a case of being an elite player.
-
Pettersson being a potentially elite player should have zero impact on whether or not he gets a letter on his sweater.
Letters are much more than being good at hockey. They're about being a good leader, knowing your teammates and how to extract the best out of them, and knowing to use both actions and words to get the team to perform better.

Bo....plz....not Edler. It doesn't strike me as though he really has the room. A lot of guys have spoken to his tips/guidance, but he doesn't strike me as the type to give a rousing speech between periods when the chips are stacked against us. I could totally see Horvat being that person. Bo leads by example with his word, play, and community work. I do think the other guys look up to and rely on him.

What would it cost us to get EDM 1st rd pick in 2018 draft? They'd need salary relief and most RNH or Lucic gets traded to the Eastern conference....
Gagner goes back to EDM + 2 2nd rd picks? This probably fetches us the 1st rd pick and Lucic (who I don't want... atleast RNH has some upside).
What would you pay for their 1st rd?
-
So with Draisaitl signed, I'd say Horvat gets inked for 5.5 this week

not a very useful tidbit
a one year deal? overpayment, and an overpayment on a yearly basis for any contract not more than 3 years
7 year deal ? slight annual average salary underpayment (i say 7 years at 39 million)
and why this week? something magical about this week? i am unaware
i think he is signed between now and training camp

Whats your opinion on Russian prospects? Is it worth the risk to draft if they may leave....
https://twitter.com/coreypronman/status/895719614302347264
Would you take the risk of drafting Andrei Svechnikov if he is the clear #2 prospect in next years draft and we so happen to have the # 2 spot?

I think it really depends on what league they're in at the draft. We see a lot of Russians who joined the CHL who have stayed in the NHL through thick and thin. The Russians who seem to dart (ie. Nichushkin and Tryamkin) are the ones brought over directly from KHL to the NHL/AHL.
I think when a Russian joins the CHL, it shows that they are most likely commited to the NHL at that point.

The thing is though, it's one thing for the player to claim they want to come over and player over here. It's another thing to show they will have the commitment. It's the cliche saying of "actions speak louder than words". An interview only goes so far whereas actually having come over and showing you want to play over here via the CHL or through some other means shows they want to be here. I'm pretty sure players like Nichushkin said in their draft interview they wanted to be over here. He even showed up to the draft.

Gagner could centre a scoring fourth line for the Canucks

Lets say we get a top 2 pick in the 2018 Draft and Detroit's comes a knocking. They would love to get Svechnikov more than anyone so he can play with his brother. I read from somewhere Andrei would love to play with his brother as he said it will make the transition better to the NHL. Now most likely if we get #1 I'm taking Dalhin at the moment and screw what Detroit wants they can trade for #2 with another team.
But lets say we have #2 in the 2018 Draft and Dahlin is the clear favorite to be #1 and Svechnikov the #2. What would it take for us to trade the #2 pick to Detroit assuming the hype is true for Svechnikov.... We could just take Svechnikov and whatever but lets assume we are in the ball park to trade

@Pears Which one of us were you responding to? If me, the going rate for a top 3 pick in half decent draft years is roughly what I wrote. This year's top 3 wouldn't have even fetched my proposal.
If JB could get just a 2nd round pick on top of that, he'd deserve a raise.

Pettersson: "I'm going to play in the SHL (next season). I need to bulk up and I'm working on that this summer."

I feel Price threatened to leave due to the $&!# show thats going on in MTL. MTL was forced to pay the price
for price.
