  1. I was actually frustrated by both of our picks. Both guys sound like jerks. Not saying they won't get whipped into shape by the league, but from what I've gotten used to in recent years with quality guys like Horvat and Jensen, I feel like both of these guys will be mini Keslers- less upside but just as much of a cancer in the locker room.
  2. By cocky, I'm not talking about on the ice and being able to get in the opponents gruff, I'm talking about a rotten core here, man. The kid, from what I've heard has a head the size of Texas and an ego that could ruin his career. Some think that's an age thing. I prefer to look at it from a different angle. I don't like the "age excuse". There is plenty of talent available at #6 who already at such a "tender" age has exhibited maturity. Assuming you know anything about the game, humility, leadership and control translate into on-ice success. Never did I say he "won't" grow up. Never did I say his edge couldn't come in handy. I love gritty guys like Lapierre. But there's a difference between a person's cockiness and a hockey player's cockiness. Virtanen has a reputation for being cocky as a human being, off the ice and outside of hockey. I feel like going forward, with this good of a pick, there are better options. If Virtanen was top three material, despite the attitude, I'd say take him at #6 because of the substantial drop. But as it stands now, he's rounding out the top ten. To take a guy like Jake Virtanen at #6 is a huge, huge risk just because the cons outweigh the pros. If I were GM, I'd take the best possible player available. A lot of people disagree because they reference the current squad. When these kids make the team, who knows what the lineup will look like? You can't go wrong with taking the best player available. He becomes a tradable asset with superior value, and you can build a long term contender around him.
  3. My point: if I'm paying 200 bucks a seat I don't want a self-centered, arrogant narcissist playing for this classy team when we could pick up another Linden or someone at least with a bit of humility. This is pick #6 people. You're so used to looking for the diamonds in the rough at the end of the 1st round. We don't need to draft a punk when we have the 6th pick in the entire draft.
  4. I know a few people who are graduating with him this year and they say he's as cocky as it gets. I don't want a snob on the team. Apparently he's like tyler seguin minus the elite skill.
  5. The OP has the point. All you guys saying "Kassian is still young", GUYS. He's been here two years and has been next to useless. He's played with the twins countless times and has never shown dominance outside of a couple games. We need to learn to expect more from this kid. The honeymoon is over. Kass needs to perform.
  6. Can't blame Gillis too much- he'd be fired immediately if he didn't say "things will be alright". I think its obvious we are entering a rebuild phase. That being said, Gillis would impress me by sending our core packing, possibly for some younger prospects or draft picks. Even one or two large trades could re-open our window for a season or two.
