Coyotes lose vote for new arena - future unclear
MaxVerstappen33 replied to mll's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Bettman doesn't like hard bargaining from anyone that he doesn't think has power. That's how TSN lost its hockey rights if I understand right. I have a feeling this Houston owner is more positive about getting NHL hockey than he's letting on. But he's just bargaining. And Bettman won't like that one bit. He'll opt for Salt lake just to stick it to him. -

That has nothing to do with the point I was making. And I said on this page that Salt Lake is favorite. -

https://twitter.com/rwesthead/status/1468751889231757323?s=20 How much $$ has the NHL left on table by remaining committed to Phoenix? Forbes reported today Coyotes lost estimated $33M in 2021 & have lost a combined $141.6M over past 10 years. Sports bankers I've talked to over the years have said they're at a loss to understand NHL logic. -

I would say they are the favorite at this point. After listening and reading about this all day, Salt Lake city is the favorite. The NHL is the most high on Houston. But the Houston group wasn't. The last time they met , they low balled the NHL. So that's good. -

The Quebec Remparts had 18,000 ppl watching junior playoff hockey. Plus Quebec is better than Winnipeg. This isn't even a contest. But whatever. -

From the web: There's no hockey capable arena in the city period from what I understand. Phillips Arena had their ice making/maintaining stuff taken out years ago. Hence why that group is trying to build a new one just outside the city. That rules them out at least for a quick move. Which is interesting. -

Oh man. So Bettman is going to buy himself some more time with this year and next, to try and cobble another deal together. Keeping the team in the desert is his highest priority. He's still trying to prove us wrong. The Hockey guy is probably making a wise-guy video about it right now. -

Even if the vote went through, this was an overly ambitious project involving sketchy owners and financing. The project probably still would have fell through for some other reason. How a guy like Bettman cant see this, I'll never know. -

New Jersey and Long Island is 1 hour and 20 min apart. It isnt about distance if you have the population density -

The voting down of this deal is also a blessing in disguise for the NHL. One of the owners in the deal has been shown to be a snake. If that's who he was, who is his business partners? The financing of this whole deal was probably on shaky ground. The arena would probably get half built before one of the owners bails. It is just unreal who Bettman will involve himself with just to try and prove his critics wrong. While he was one of the richest people in Canada, with rock solid foundations and a building in Quebec, knocking on his door. -

If the commissioner liked easy money, he would. (i sense this is a swipe at the Leafs) -

True. But even if they had one, dilution from the Leafs is supposedly a non starter. -

Why's that ? Why is dilution trotted out as a deal breaker for Hamilton and Quebec but isn't even mentioned once for Dallas and Houston? -

Why is Hamilton such a no-go zone because the Leafs wont allow it. But Dallas will supposedly be totally fine with Houston ? Another glaring contradiction that shows the bias for US teams. The NHL decides on cities it wants and then makes up reasons why other cities wont work. Oh of course we cant have Hamilton. Dilution bruh. But Houston wants a team? Coming right up.... What a joke. -

Saskatoon is not a fantasy. Would be it perfect ? No. But there's lots of franchises in this league that are very far from perfect , that lose money all the time , and have bad attendance. With any franchises , there is different locations and markets that serve different purposes. Bettman is arrogant and he flies too close to the sun. He put out 2 expansion teams while having an absolute tire fire going at the same time. They already did 2 new big market teams. Maybe it's time for a smaller low maintenance one again (don't bring up the Jets fear porn nonsense) -

Who here is actually happy with the Hronek trade?
MaxVerstappen33 replied to Odd.'s topic in Canucks Talk
I just imagine if Toronto or Edmonton traded for him instead, they'd probably still be in the playoffs. Everyone around the league critiqued the trade because of where the Canucks are. But none of them asked why we got him and none of the playoff window teams did. Edmonton is stupid. They should be spending their 1st and 2nds for the next 2 years and yet they let us walk away with Hronek. -
I came here for some Bedard cope. Not this. He'd get the endorsements if he came here too. Just like Rogers throwing $$ at Mcdavid. If he stays in Chicago , he'll most likely play a pivotal role in preventing Vancouver from winning a cup for the next 18 years. Bc the Canucks won't be able to beat Chicago in the playoffs. My main cope us that if there was a team that he would leave after 7 years , it's Chicago.

Yeah but Alvin already ruined that probably..by signalling that he's a cap dump. But maybe not. Maybe they can get something instead of spending assets to move him. An even trade. Since when is 17 goals 5 on 5 mostly , cap dump bad? he's an easy target bc he was part of the OEL deal
-
The short of it. It would be dumb to pay to move Garlund when he's second in points 5 on 5 over the last 2 years. Tied with Miller 5/5. He's better than ppl think. I'd rather pay Lekkerimaki + to dump OEL
