  1. Why does Doug Wilson get not heat for not hitting rock bottom with the Sharks ? They finished 20/21 at the bottom of the standings after trading away futures and are right at the cap.
  2. Imagine being Green if we get smoked tonight. It is unprofessional to keep him in there. Its like not pulling the starting goalie after 9 goals.
  3. Craig Button has Ivan Miroshnichenko (LW) at #8. Bob Mckenzie has him at #2 ! This is gonna be a difficult draft to get right if you are picking in top 10
  4. Some commentray from HF on Wright. It sure makes the draft more interesting when the surefire #1 starts stalling out. If we get #1 OA, I am not sold on Wright. Not at all. He sounds like a hyped "2 way" player like Bergeron or Horvat. Skating is average. Offensive upside is questionable. Everyone needs players like Horvat. But they shouldn't be drafted so high. To be in the top 3 of the draft, you have to ooze skill or skating or something. When you draft #1 OA, you want a rare player. Not an average one. -Another miserable showing from Wright. No way he goes 1st OV if he keeps playing that bad. Im not even sure he cracks TCJ, he is showing no improvement at all. -It just gets more disappointing each game clicking on this thread. After that invincible U-18, expected extreme dominance this season. But that player must've been an aberration to his current version. Does he even make the World Junior team? -Wright playing like doodoo so that bad teams won't draft him so high up? Genius.
  5. Wright is actually struggling lately. This will make it interesting if he doesnt pick it up
  6. From HF The guy I always compared Laine to stylistically-speaking was Boeser for the Canucks, they both play a similar way and have similar skill-sets, and their careers have gone similar ways. I wonder with these guys, they had so much early success putting the puck into the net but how much of that was goalies just not having a book on them when they first come in the league? Couple years go by and they put so much more on tape at the NHL level, especially for guys who are seen as snipers you know the goalie and the goalie coach and the video coach on the other teams are all breaking down their tendencies and figuring out what they like to do. That sort of thing can get into your head pretty easy, like it does with pitchers in baseball, a guy might have great stuff as a rookie who nobody's ever really seen before at that level but in a year or two if you don't switch things up they will catch up to what you're doing and start to take advantage, it's like a constant process there. I reckon what we want to see from Laine is attention to detail and building out his game and also his mental resilience, because he's one of these guys whose overall game gets affected if the puck isn't going in for him. Mid-30s for goals and with plentiful assists and well-rounded team play is a good season for him I figure, although, you gotta pro-rate this stuff for a short season and I didn't do that.
  7. Ok but what do you expect that CBJ fans would want ? I bet they would expect either of Boeser or Miller and our 1st round pick.
  8. Laine for all his faults (bad skating, streaky, effort) still has high draft pedigree
  9. Not right now but he was. He's on a hot streak. And on a one year deal. Obviously things aren't perfect when you sign a one year deal
  10. Looks like it. But he's very streaky and isn't that good defensively they say
  11. You know that's a ridiculous low ball right ? Imagine we got the #2 over all pick in 2016 and he scored 30 goals for 4 seasons. We'd ask for the moon.
  12. He averaged 30+ goals per year until covid. You cant score 30 goals every year of your career and not "have what it takes"
  13. He was #2 pick in 2016. Got 44 goals in 2018. I have no idea what he's worth. He's on a one year contract. But someone will trade for his rights and sign him Horvat, Rathbone and a conditional 1st ? Boeser, ________ and a conditional 2022 1st ? No low balling. Nothing that you wouldn't post on CBJ's HF forum with a straight face. Maybe we could hash out an offer and submit it to their forum. See what the reaction is..
  14. If I had to guess, JB isn't going anywhere this season. Dreger says the one holding out on the coach is Aqualini and not JB. JB didn't really have much of a reason to fire Green until this losing streak anyway.
  15. I agree mostly. Its all the dregs in the hockey media going on and on about 8 years too. And to think, a lot of Jim Bennings critics are warm to the idea of bringing in Jim Rutherford. Now that would be funny to watch. Benning didn't just spend to the cap for leadership. He did it just in case a team catches fire and happens to make the playoffs and go on a run. Then you have a chance.
  16. I refuse to believe that all of these players are as bad as they are. Green has them playing so terribly that we have to re-evaluate players like Dickenson after a coaching change.
  17. I don't believe that they are "mailing it in". They just cant get their game right and cant get momentum. Green is not a hard ass prick coach. If I was on the team, I'd play my ass off to try and avoid someone like Babcock. Its just how the patronage network works. Green rode the same wave that Dallas Eakins did. But if i recall, he had a winning record in the minors.
  18. Might as well take Guy Boucher now then. Similar styles. They both a French and coached in the Q.
  19. So this is next Friday ? Why the wait ? Must be trying to avoid an interm coach
  20. It depends on a few things. Its always high risk to sign defensman to term. Especially when they are 30+. The Canucks have dodged a couple of these bullets. Ohlund and Erhoff. I guess if he didn't pay it, someone else would have. So he had to do it. It must have sounded like a good idea at the time hockey wise. Having Burns and Karlsson. If any of the players you mentioned are 30 and want an 8 year contract , I'd be nervous.
  21. *Post I seen somewhere else I’ve never seen a player more immune to criticism than Bo Horvat. Don’t get me wrong I like him and he’s a decent player. Every team in the league could use a one dimensional 2nd liner. But it’s as if he’s curated a Jonathan Toews esque squeaky clean image as a guy who’s a “200ft player that’s a leader on and off the ice” and yet when I look around I simply don’t see anything close to that. People have talked so much about Pettersson’s struggles this season. Fine. He’s been bad. Where the f*** is Horvat? Where is the captain? I notice him on the ice maybe once every couple weeks. Where is this “leadership” we hear so much about? People in the hockey community decided in 2013 around the time Horvat was drafted that he was a “future captain” and a “2 way player” and it was so. (there is a lot of 20 goal scorers like this) The unfortunate part is that functionally he is neither of those things. The guy who’s actually a 200ft, all situations lead by example player is in fact none other than JT Miller. PK1? Yup. PP1? Yup. Centre, winger, faceoffs, taking young players under his wing, sticking up for teammates, etc. he’s doing it all. Miller will be the scapegoat, he will be thrown under the bus by this teams “leadership” regime because he’s the easy choice. The frustrating part is that the reality is this team needs more JT Millers not less. I’m so sick of “Bo Horvats”. We got nowhere being lead by guys who always do the right thing and say the right thing. If you want to win you need some “f*** you” energy and Horvat doesn’t have it. This team is leaderless and that includes Horvat. Of course the blame is a top down problem starting with ownership and management, but if we’re going to talk about the locker room can we please stop pretending Horvat is the good guy and Miller is the bad guy? Is Miller supposed to apologize for giving a f***? Because sometimes it looks like he’s the only one who does.
