I would be really surprised if they put him with Daniel and Henrik, but I can't see Rodin being successful outside of the top 6. Maybe on 3rd line if he has the right center.

It's evident this year with the Sedins' desire to play with Hansen that they need to play with a hard-nosed forechecker who can get them the puck when Henrik dumps it in. They're getting old, so the Sedins can't do it themselves anymore, they need a young/strong/speedy forward who can get them the puck after the dump-in.

Don't watch much of Rodin, but is he that kind of player? From what I've heard, I don't really think so, seems to be more skilled than raw power/speed.

This is also a big problem with our team though, we don't have a speedy playmaking center. Horvat isn't that, McCann will hopefully be that in the next 2-3 years, and Sutter is a shut-down C. We don't have a center we can just place shooters with and find success (Bonino was sort of that last year, but even he isn't that much of a "playmaker")

0.250 isn't a bad batting average, but it isn't exactly good either. As long as who ever replaces him has a better average the likely difference in homeruns would probably be more negated.

Heard a blurb on the radio about a 1st round compensation pick if JB leaves and a cursory Google search didn't reveal anything as to why. Can anyone explain that for me?

If Shapiro is destined to let him hit free agency, would he be worth more in a trade than the [supposed] 1st round pick? Say, as part of a package for a hotshot young pitcher?

If you have a player for an entire year and they are a UFA, you can give them a Qualifying Offer (QO) which is like a 1-year off that's a strict number (this year i think it was like 15.2 million or something). If you extend a player a QO, then if they sign with another team in free agency, your team gets a first round pick.

    Here's a good sum-up: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/11/explaining-qualifying-offers.html

And Tulo won't be batting .250 this year at the plate, for his standards, that is a really off-year. He's an average .297 hitter with a .369 OBP. He regressed a lot when he came here, but IMO that's because he was so culture-shocked about the trade and it was more off the field issues than on the field (he had to adjust to a new city, new teammates, was probably uncomfortable, things like that). He seemed pretty upset with the way he was dealt too, so it was probably a BIG shock for him. He'll be much better, I mean, hell, he's probably still a top 3 SS in baseball, and probably #1 over the past like 10 years.

  3. Re-upping Bautista really isn't that big of a deal, to be honest.

Jays had the best offense in baseball before trading for Tulo, and if you replaced Tulo into Bautista's spot... Oh man, I'm sure you're not losing that much production. Yes, the line-up is obviously better with both Tulo AND Bautista, but really, we already had a historical line-up and we added to it. I don't think you see a big downgrade if you switch Tulo and Bautista (in comparison to our numbers last year before Tulo).

I think JB said recently that he'll be talking to Demkos to see where his mind is after the season.

It's definitely time to sign him and get him into Utica next season. If Demko decides to play out his final season at BC it will be cause for concern, we might lose him. If Demko doesn't sign and stays in school for one more season he becomes UFA. We definitely don't want that.

So yeah, time to sign this kid. Hopefully he's willing to do it.

You are right, it may be "time to sign him," but Demko has to make that decision himself.

Hutton left a year early, so it's possible, but for some reason I remember an interview with Demko and his dad and they talked about wanting him to finish his degree (whole reason he's in college rather than junior in the first place so he can get an education). I'll try and dig it up, but it was a while ago, I think two summers. There's certainly a possibility he changed his mind, but remember, i'd say 1/2 the kids who go the college route do it for the education.

Sure, you can go back in the summer and finish some courses, but that's annoying as hell and cuts into your summer training time. IMO it's best to finish it all first then focus everything on hockey for the next 15-20 years. That's just me though. Plus you tend to forget a bunch of crap over the year (I can't even remember stuff I did last term lol)

  5. Here's a thought to help everyone calm down.

We could have taken MDC at #5 :sadno:

I remember hearing a rumor around draft time that someone close with MDC said he HATES the Canucks, as in MDC would never, ever want to be a Canuck, ever.

I don't know if he was right or just trolling but eh, just throwing it out there.

  6. My girlfriend pretty much told me the same thing. If I had watched it in theatre, I think it would have held my attention longer.

Oh yeah, definitely. I watched it in IMAX (first in a while) and it was great. I mean, I don't think my speakers do a t-rex's roar justice.

I've watched it at home too, definitely not the same feeling at all.

  7. Jurassic World: stopped watching and played with my dog instead/10

I thought Chris Pratt was good, but I didn't care about whether those kids lived or not. Especially the younger one where the director decided 'let's make in painfully obvious how much this kid loves dinosaurs more than anybody else'.

Meh, I think you should go into it with the mindset "it's not supposed to be a good movie (as in it's not gonna win any awards or anything), but it's gonna be fun because it's fricken' dinosaurs."

By all means, it's not really a great movie, the plot it kinda lame, everything is really obvious.. But dude, it's fricken' dinosaurs fighting each other, who wouldn't want to go in and see that? From a little kid to an old man in his 80s, every one thinks dinosaurs are pretty cool.

I mean, it's pretty much just an action movie, if you go into it just looking for fun, I don't see how you dislike it. To each their own of course, but still, I think if you just go into it with a bag of popcorn, a cold drink and just have fun, it's a good time.

  8. Naslund might have missed that 4 times out of 5.

Awesome hands...that behind the back pass would have been buried by anyone on the top 3 lines...

    Well, yeah, Nazzy's a lefty, i'm pretty sure he'd miss that 5/5 times ;)

But please, Naslund had the best wrister in the entire NHL at his prime. Will Virtanen? I'm not trying to be a debbie downer, but probably not.

  9. Watched the new Hunger Games today, got to admit, it was pretty awful.

The whole film i was just waiting for the "fun" parts to happen, but the entire movie you're just waiting and waiting until it eventually ends.. Such a boring movie.

I know the movie tried to focus on the political aspect of the districts and all that, but come on, they could've made it less of a snooze fest.

  10. My guess is Bo will play 4th line minute to finish this trip (maybe being an healthy scratch in ANA or LA), and then when we get back home, might get a few games at around 12 minutes and more significant shift.

But in the end, IMO I think Bo is OHL bound. I can't see the Canucks keeping Bo around to play 4th line minutes and maybe being an healthy scratch once in a while this season. Willie D. as been reluctant to give Vey a bigger role despite a good start to the season, I can't see how he would give Horvat a top 9 role, unless a major injury happens in the next 7 games.

I don't think Willies has been "reluctant" in not giving Vey a bigger role.. It just makes more sense for him to be on the 4th line. We don't need him in our top 6. Our 2nd line is solidified with Higgins/Burrows on the wing, why would you want to change this?

4th line was also pretty much getting the same ice-time as the "3rd" line when everyone was healthy too, so there's not much of a discrepancy there.

Also, you can't just put player with players and hopefully it'll work out. IE: Ovie with the Sedins would be pretty awful.

  11. He's skilled, point per game in the WHL, but he doesn't have Ehlers or Nylander-level skill. Those kids are on another level to Virtanen. Sure, Virtanen's got a bigger body and plays a more rounded game but like I've said, we've got enough of those players, and we've got no one in our lineup on the same echelon as say Nylander skill-wise.

Our prospect pool is getting stupidly one-dimensional. Horvat, Jensen, Virtanen, Kassian and Gaunce are all very similar players.

We did get lucky with drafting McCann (surprised he fell so late) so hopefully he develops a bit more pure skill, and although Cassels is up there in the OHL scoring he's more of a two-way forward just like the rest of our prospects.

You've probably never seen Virtanen play a single god damn game.

Also, you probably have never seen Ehlers/Nylander play a game either. You don't have to admit it, it's quite obvious from your post...

Kassian is similar to Horvat... What? I guess they're both... Forwards?

  12. The more I think about this the more I realize how HUGE the risk is!!!

This is BAD BAD BAD BAD.

Those of you defending this guy, he is injured... such a huge risk. At 17 he needs to be playing and learning, instead he is injured.

Benning needs to immediately be bought out if possible. If there's still time to do it before his contract kicks in, Aqullini should do it.

Linden needs to smarten up now and stay focused or he is going to end up fired also. GDMIT we just went through this with Tortorella/Gillis.

    I cant believe it

This guy would have been drafted at 24... we coulda picked up nylander and then got virt at 24 or even in the 2nd round. DUMB!!!

    K

  13. Shinkaruk has a much higher potential of busting than Reinhart.

Someone said the contrary in this thread while i was browsing on my phone. If you think Reinhart has just as much of a chance at busting, then you have NEVER watched Reinhart play. That's just a ridiculous statement. There's a reason Shinkaruk went 24th and Reinhart will go 1st/2nd.... And no, sorry folks, even if this draft is "worse," there is not a 23 pick difference.

  14. This is ridiculous if true.

Man up and do a proper rebuild and stop panicking about season ticket renewals.

A band-aide solution will just prolong the inevitable.

This team never needed a FULL ON re-build, they just needed to get a youth injection. We don't need to blow anything up, we have a solid core that probably has a good year or two left. We need more of a re-tooling, imo.

If we can somehow get the likes of Reinhart without losing Shinkaruk, the future already looks bright without having to do anything.

These are also Free Agent signings, we lose absoloutely nothing other than $$$, which isn't even something we should care about other than cap space, which is also something we don't need to worry about since our core is already locked up.
