Mmmmk so would you like to make 1 million dollars next year or the year after? Why does the kid care which sweater he's wearing? The difference between $70,000 and a million is how much? I'm starting to get a headache. He was drafted in the 2nd round. If he's not pissed and trying to prove himself to every team in the league, do we want him? The answer is of course we do...and he wants us. Unknot your panties the lot of you.

I feel as though I went back in time and started reading the Jordan Subban thread again. Oh Noes!

Hooray! There's someone with half a brain that posts on this forum. Unless a team is intent on tanking they are not going to sign an unproven college FA goalie to go directly to their NHL club. Demko can't even do that nearly impossible thing until next year. Demko can however, sign this summer with the Canucks and play out his 1st year of pro with the Comets. Yes he will only make 70k in his 1st year of pro, but them's the rules young man. He would be a year behind making real money in the NHL if he went to college for another year and signed with some other team that would undoubtedly put him with their AHL affiliate the following year. Why would he want to wait an extra year before starting his pro career? Hey Alf. I'm looking at you. This is about as likely a scenario as the one you're suggesting. He waits an extra year and plays for BC next year. Then he picks a team that has no goalie depth, but is more to his liking. Then he hires Tonya Harding's husband to whack every goalie on the depth chart in the knee and Voila! He's playing in the NHL next year.

Is anyone else going to join me and go full Apollo on this guy?
-
Already a tight group of young stallions in the barn. The Canucks and the Comets have a bright future ahead of them. The more these young guys bond and build chemistry together the better this team will be in a few years. It's easy to say that only a few of these guys will reach their potential based on the history of other prospects, but I really see a special group here. Tryamkin, Boeser, Demko, McCann, Virtanen and Horvat all growing up together in the pros is promising for the future.

If only we could go back to the days of Jim Henson. When he had his hand up your butt, all was right with the world. Just like we can't go back there, we can't go back to the 2014 draft and pick your faves. Suck it up buttercup and get with the JV program. He's our pick whether you liked it or not.
-
Riddle me this. If I'm a JV supporter, what are you?
-
Yep. Pure BS. I dare you to read this thread lol. 90%? Did you pull number out of your butt? Of course you did.
-
JV supporters are the ones trying to defend our prospect from the Ehlers Nylander fanboys. You have it ass backwards. DownundaCanuck is back to prove my point. Where was that guy for the same 2 months that you took off. Now he's extrapolating how many points Nylander would have scored in a full season. It's hopeless trying to explain anything to you, but I will call you on your BS every time.

Actually you're referred to as a troll because you only ever have negative things to say about our prospect. It was curious but not surprising that you had nothing to say for a couple months when Jake was playing well. Now that his play has taken a dip and his exuberance in trying to make a big hit has ended in a suspension, Guntrix has suddenly found his voice again. Props to the5thline for being the one detractor of Jake's game early on, that has come back to acknowledge when Jake was playing well. Jake as a 19 year old isn't a top 6 forward on a good team, but the Canucks only had a couple of games this year with all of their starters in the lineup. Jake is far from a finished product, yet some people are looking at him at age 19, as though he will never learn anything or become a better player. There is plenty of room for improvement, yet there are plenty of fans that can see the upside in this kid's game and are certain that he will become a top 6 winger.

No wonder he needed bionic hips... The stage is set for him to become an NHL tender in 2 years. He made sure to finish his 1st year of College before he even started, so that he could come out early and he's right on track for that. In the summer summit Benning was pumping his tires and it's pretty clear to me that he realizes that he is the succession plan. Watch this video starting at 50:33 to 51:33 for Demko's thoughts on the matter. http://video.canucks.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=832150

He was suspended for a few months
-
Is this a precedent setting suspension? The hit was a second late and 5 and a game misconduct was a good call, but there was no head contact and the player returned to the game so there was no injury. Is he being suspended because he's 19 and the DOPS believes he needs to learn his lesson now before he becomes a dangerous player? I guess DOPS now stands for Department of Pre-crime Suspensions.

^ the intimidation factor alone is a huge advantage for him. That was such a clever play, separating the man from the puck with a fake body check and then just taking the puck with a smart stick. His stickhandling continues to impress.
-
. Yeah the love affair with Weber doesn't make any sense. Given the mistakes that they are both prone to, Pedan is still the better option based on his physical play alone.
-
I became unglued a little after the last game. Watching him start to take the body and shove players around was impressive. I was sure that I heard some ooohs and ahhhs from the St. Louis fans in attendance. Then when Reaves backed down from Pedan and then Pedan and Tryamkin were standing side by side in the crease and Reaves got puppy dog eyes and skated away. I'm pissed if those 2 aren't in the lineup next year.
-
Methinks he may have sold that one
-
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

The save at 14:45 of the 2nd vs Duluth is ridiculous. I'd love it if someone could find that and capture it.
-
The table is set for a ND vs BC final. Boeser vs Demko for the title. BC has already scored 1 so they have this one in the bag
-
There really is no wow factor to his game except for his shot. He is always looking for the soft spot on the ice and he makes himself available on the boards for the cycle, but it never seems to develop. He will need to increase his foot speed and urgency at the next level, but he is a very smart player. He's definitely an opportunist there just hasn't been a lot of room out there today.
-
Could someone explain how this guy went through the draft twice and it took 66 picks the 2nd time before anyone grabbed him? This guy is amazing. A future #1 if he hasn't taken that spot already. Wow. If Hutton and Tryamkin becomes a thing and Edler Tanev are still here, then you have a legit top 4. http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=123119 http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/nikita-tryamkin/ I had that wrong. it was his 3rd time through the draft because he has a late birthday.
-
I noticed that earlier this year with Virtanen or McCann. Wide open stick on the ice and the puck carrier would look directly at him, realize it was the rookie and choose a different option. There's some big brother thing going on there where they're protecting them from making mistakes, but in doing so they aren't making the smart play.
-
I guess you can't, because you didn't and then you laughed your ass off. neato junior. There's this little thing I do it's called watching hockey. It helps when you're interested in evaluating the play of individual players. You should try it. Here's a little exercise for ya. Go through the AHL rosters of all of the teams and see if you can pick out more than 3 players, that are still considered prospects, that could make the jump to the NHL in the next year or 2. In most cases it's difficult and the fact that teams who have embraced the suck for extended periods or teams that have ripped off the band-aid and are going full rebuild, have the most prospects is not surprising. Currently there are 0 prospects in the Comets roster that I would put on that list, because they're all playing in the NHL right now. Not winning with these guys in the lineup is a bit concerning, but the level of hustle from last night's game and the experience those prospects are gaining is immeasurable. It will make "at least not yet" come a lot sooner.

That's the dumbest assertion of all. Everyone that learns how to play hockey is born with some innate ability or hockey DNA. Coaching is as much a part of a players make up as passing, shooting and skating. Jake has the skills part of the game and he needs to learn the X's and O's. To say that he will be incapable of learning the tactics of the game is dismissive. You don't know what he knows and you don't know what he is capable of learning. Congrats on your stupid post. In My Honest Amateur Opinion you are clueless.
