Go make another Jim Benning sucks thread. I love the posters that put up highlights and 1st hand accounts. This guy? Not so much.
-
There was a thread at the draft asking who your top 4 players at 23 would be. I had Konecny on my list, but I also had Boeser and I wasn`t at all disappointed by the pick. Button had Boeser at #9 on his list and Benning said that he wanted to trade up to make sure that he got Brock. Your point has been made dozens of times in this thread and the more that you continue to say the same thing, the more that it becomes clear that you are 100% trolling.
-
FTFY. You are officially the biggest troll that I`ve seen on these boards. In the same way that I don`t give a crap what kind of career that Ehlers or Nylander has, I certainly don`t care what Travis Konecny does, because I`m not a Flyers fan.
-
What nothing positive to say? Shocker. Where's your buddies? This thread is eerily quiet since the new year.
-
I really hope he is able to make a full recovery and come back 100%. A severed tendon does not sound good when it comes to injuries.
-
Why are people suggesting that Shinkaruk and Gaunce are throw in players in their hypothetical trades. Those are our 2 best prospects, not some + that gets added to a deal.
-
I feel like I just read his life story. https://sports.vice.com/ca/article/how-thatcher-demko-overcame-pain-and-tragedy-to-become-one-of-hockeys-top-goalie-prospects "That's my kid," Danielle said. "When he was accelerating school and in this pain and dealing with all this stuff that summer, he said, 'If I don't play 15 years in the NHL, I will be so pissed. I'm not doing this for three or four years in the show.'"
-
That's really just 1 person that seems to have a bug up his butt about Gaunce. GoComets also seems to think that Gaunce is soft. Coach Green however, has Gaunce playing on the 1st Line and PP1 and PK1. I think I'll take the actions of the coach as evidence that he's playing the right way. Plus the majority are coming to Gaunce's defense in that thread and having watched those games myself, I have no idea what he's talking about. I really hate that HF board and rarely go there unless its to look at rumors from around the league and hear what fans from other teams are b!tching about lol.

But Konecny doh... I have Konecny rash in my pants. Boeser wuz a fluke and I sure hope that 24th pick pays off. loltard.

Shinkaruk is the left winger on that line and I guess Zalewski is better suited to playing right wing than Gaunce. Those 3 are the best players on the team right now so it's not a surprise that they are being put together on the 1st line. Grenier has been dropped down coming off of injury and the emergence of Zalewski, but he's still getting top PP time with Gaunce and Shinkaruk. The PP2 unit is Higgins Friesen Zalewski. That's the way the team looked this weekend, but Green loves to juggle his lineup, so who knows what the lineup will look like in the future. There are tons of bodies there now with the Comets getting healthy and the Canucks also getting healthy and sending their spare parts down.

I can't wait to see what he can do on the small ice. Sign this guy asap Benning. The one man gang.
-
Played center this weekend between Shinkaruk and Zalewski and looked really good. That Gaunce and Zalewski tandem is excellent. They're the 1st unit PK forwards and were the 1st pairing out on the 3on3 OT. It really makes me wonder if he's being playing hurt for a while or if he just responds well to playing center. Either way he's making a case to be the 1st call up if a spot opens up in the bottom 6.
-
Is there anything to that rumor? It sounds like the radio guys are making stories sound more interesting than they are. WD said yesterday that they wanted Jake in for Calgary on Saturday and they played Jared because he hadn't played a game in 2 weeks. It could be a case of where there's smoke there's fire. Or it could be that the radio blow hards are trying to get listeners.

Benning's "succession plan" has Demko playing behind Markstrom in a couple of years. It wouldn't make any sense for Demko to stay for a 4th year of college, when there is a clear path to the NHL in front of him. All he has to do is continue playing well and stay injury free. If he were to try out free agency, there are no guarantees that he finds a better situation with another team.
-
Gaunce needed a bump back to the 1st page. Especially after tonight's game when he was put back on the 1st line with Shinkaruk, except this time he played right wing and Zalewski was the center. Gaunce has played all forward positions and plays special teams so I can definitely see him getting another call up. All of a sudden with the play of Mike Z, that line represents our 3 best prospects not on the Canucks. A video I stumbled across that could go in the Shinkaruk thread as well. These guys are really hungry to get to the next level.

Whether you can drop Jake and Jared in remains to be seen. If you make a blanket statement like that without considering the circumstances, you run the risk of looking foolish at a future date. Development can work like that as demonstrated by Bo Horvat a year ago. I bet it was those same folks saying send Horvat down last year, as are on here critiquing Jake and saying it will ruin his development. The simple truth is that Horvat and Virtanen are freaks of nature. For their age, they shouldn't be as fast and as strong as they are. McCann has a deadly shot and he got lucky a bunch of times at the beginning of the year, but you could also say that he has been unlucky on many chances as well. There are so many gaps in our drafting history, that we shouldn't even be considered in the same breath as Detroit. That's an unrealistic comparison. We traded away plenty of picks for a win now strategy and now it's time to restock the cupboards. If Mantha was in our list of prospects, I guarantee that he'd be in the Canucks lineup.

Straight from the horses mouth here's Jim Benning explaining it. Starts at about 13:15 He's right it does sound strange. But what it does is speed up the rebuild by at least a year. Are you somehow unaware that we are rebuilding? The fact that McCann and Virtanen are able to compete in the NHL at 19 is impressive and they are continuing to improve. I just don't see how it hurts the long term development of the players or the team. The team will likely add 3 of Shinkaruk, Gaunce, Grenier and Pedan next year, and continue to build from within. It's amazing that you haven't put 2 and 2 together yet and continue to sing the same old song.

I caught parts of the games against Toronto on the weekend. I was sure that Higgins was going to stand out in the AHL, but he just looked like another player out there. The play was terrible though. Going from watching the Canucks early game to watching the Comets game at noon was painful. The play was extremely scrambly and players were out of position all over the ice, so it would be near impossible to look good in those types of games. His confidence has to be at an all time low so hopefully he can pot a few goals and give himself a chance to get back to the show.
-
I bet he plays for the Comets next year. He's already a pro and he's got the skill, he just needs to start eating like an American
-
This thread is dying!!!!! I hope he trips over the red line tonight or takes an unnecessary penalty. We need people to hate on this kid, it makes him play harder!
-
You're hilarious. There's a JV bandwagon? Why aren't you on it? What team do you cheer for?<---serious question. Is it really warranted to argue sour grapes with the minority, who are basing their opinions on boxscores? What have you thought of Jakes game lately? He looks like he's starting to put it together. Nylander hasn't played in a while and Ehlers looks like he's heating up and starting to get top line minutes. What's left to discuss? There is no time machine waiting to take you back so you can whisper 'Ehlers is better' in Benning's ear before he walks up to the stage. If you did he would look down his spectacles at you and smirk and then he would walk up on that stage and announce that with the 6th pick in the 2014 draft the Canucks select Jake Virtanen. There really is no reason for this thread to be as long as it is, but even when he's playing well you're finding ways to criticize. I think it's great and I look forward to saying the same things over and over to you and the others for years to come.
-
This guy is a top 9 player. The fact that he's smart and perceived as lazy or coasting, to me means he is just trying to stay healthy and waiting to get his shot. As soon as there's a hint that he's not performing, he comes out and has a great game.
-
No offense, but I don't think you know what you're talking about. He is literally all of those things that you listed. The knock on him is that he doesn't do all those things consistently. The reasons/ excuses for him not doing those things on a consistent basis, have more to do with small injuries and the AHL schedule, that sees these guys play 3 nights in a row and 3 games in 4 nights all throughout the year. The AHL schedule has as much to do with the inconsistencies in these guys' games as anything IMO.

We were doing so well "I hope that I'm wrong though"
