Guntrix quoted it so it belongs to him now lol

But, but, but all he does is hit Derp!
-
I'm sure he's relieved that you think he had a good game.
-
You should take credit for that goal, you deserve it.

Gotcha. So a jr. tournament in which he underperformed, his draft +1 season (mentioning surgery and a shortened season would be making excuses though right?), his 2 games in the AHL this year plus the handful of games he played in the Calder playoffs last year (Even though he was out of shape coach Green was still playing him in the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the playoffs). And 20 NHL games in which he's averaging less than 10 minutes TOI. Are there other factors? Does he get winded easily riding a stationary bike or something? My point remains that any conclusion that you come to is based on incomplete information.
-
Well you've finally said something that I can agree with you on. And you have proven my point when you say that you've come to a conclusion after having watched a junior tournament. There simply isn't a large enough body of work to make an accurate assessment yet. I understand that expectations are through the roof for this kid, but you're losing perspective on the big picture when you evaluate a player game by game or shift by shift.

The fact that you think that you gave him a compliment there is pretty funny. That's basically the passive aggressive version of your usual overtly hostile approach. The fact that people are already certain what player he is going to be after 20 games in the NHL is also perplexing. It's pretty short-sighted to say he's only going to be a 3rd liner, when he still hasn't played in any other situation other than the 3rd or 4th line. Of course he looks like a 3/4th liner, that's where he's playing and those are the minutes he's getting. His season is pretty much mirroring the season that Bo had last year. Hopefully as WD gets more comfortable with him he's going to slowly get more ice and opportunity. I would have thought that Willie would be more willing to give Jake a longer leash after the experience of having Bo last year, but I don't blame him for being cautious with these teenagers. Once he starts getting that opportunity, he's going to break through that glass ceiling that so many people have placed over his head.

You're going to be disappointed when you're watching the Vancouver Comets playing next year.
-
Well if JB said that, then he and WD are basically parroting each other. http://video.canucks.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=804&id=443912&lang=en&_ga=1.75384018.1564935104.144960776 WD talks for 3 1/2 minutes about JV and says the same thing exactly, so it looks like they're on the same page. It's still very up in the air from WD's comments, but it sounds like it's going to be up to him. The kid is going to be all kind of fired up to get back into the lineup and I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of his first body checks. But all he does is hit Derp!

I'm on the fence when it comes to the upcoming decision. He needs to play more minutes if he's in Van, so as much as it's Benning's decision, WD has to play him if he stays. I was all for keeping JV at the beginning of the year, but Willie didn't do Jake any favours by stapling his ass to the bench at the end of games during the start of the year. We found a way to lose those games in the 3rd period anyways, so it was the wrong approach. If WD is going to give him 12 or 13 minutes a night and play him for the entire game then I say sure keep him, but if he's going to continue to misuse the players that he has trust issues with, then JV needs to play big minutes in jr.
-
At this point Benning might have to broker that kind of deal. He hasn't ever come out and said directly that the Hitmen is poor at development to my knowledge, but he certainly has implied it. Calgary has a good team this year and getting Jake on their team might give them a push, but they might want to trade for the assets that JV would bring them. There's no telling what's going on behind closed doors, but if he is traded before being sent down, it could shed a bit of light on whether there is some kind of rift between the parties involved.

You're dreaming if you think that Konecny will be on the Flyers next year. He was a non-factor in a tournament where his skillset should have made him a standout. I like the kid and I think he develop into a Gallagher type player, but it's going to take him at least as long to develop as Brendan did. If your point was to prove that you can't stop stop crying about something that you have no control over, you succeeded. Boeser's game needs structure and players on the ice to be where they're supposed to be. The WJC isn't that type of tournament, it's more of a scrambly mess. I have no doubt that Boeser will return to form when he gets back to playing games against mature players.

His positioning looks fine to me. He sets up shop in front of the net and draws a lot of attention. The team needs to start shooting the puck more when he's camping out in front of the net. The penalty he took was stupid, but it set the tone for the rest of the game. Now Sweden is retaliating and has taken those kind of penalties themselves.
-
It has really come down to analyzing every step he makes now. I'm hoping he has a good game tomorrow on a line with Crouse and Strome. That was the top line at practice today so it looks like they're doing a bit of juggling to get guys going.
-
You might say he's lazy but I'd say he's smart. He reminds me of Gaunce as a junior. You really don't know how fast he is because he doesn't waste energy moving at top speed for no reason. He's very good at finding the open ice and putting himself in the correct position. Are you really concerned that he isn't going full speed in a game that was over after 5 minutes?
-
^ He wasn't great. But he was certainly good. Was he bad? did he continuously turn the puck over? Did his play lead to odd man rushes the other way? Noooo, Because it was 'kin Denmark. 3 quality scoring chances that I saw. Is that playing poorly?
-
He hit the crossbar from a backhander in tight and brought the puck to the crease a couple of times from either side of the net and was unlucky to not tuck one in. You can't make a judgement about his play unless you watch the games. I'm not surprised that the same group of people can't find anything positive to say about his game. The boxscore will never tell you how someone is playing.

I seriously wonder if any of you "critics" for lack of a better term, are actually Canucks fans at all. How about you point out a bad game that he's had. A game where a direct turnover actually cost his team a game. To hear some people talk about him he's the reason behind every Canucks' loss this year. Team Canada won 6-1 today, but to hear people talk about JV you'd think they lost the game and he was the reason. We didn't draft a finished product and you're just going to have to suffer through all the insecurities that you're projecting on this kid. It's the same thing with the PGT on CDC. When we win the post-game will be about 10 pages and when we lose there will be 30 pages of pi$$ing and moaning, trade proposals and lineup combinations. You can't live or die by every game that the team plays and you can't just follow #18 around the ice and expect that everything he does is going to impress you. You're going to give yourself an aneurysm!

6th overall does not equal an elite player in any draft. We hit the jackpot once in 1999 and got the 2nd and 3rd. other than that it's amazing that we've been good for the last decade. We did it through development and we're going to need to do it the same way in the future. At 6th overall in the 2014 draft was Jake Virtanen. At the combine he was the fastest skater forwards and backwards in a draft class that included Ekblad. He hits people and they fly and he shoots the puck hard. We took the best athlete at that spot. His skillset is good enough to take a risk on. They don't make that kind of player very often. I've never seen people bounce off of a player in the way that happens with this kid. He's always the fastest player on the ice and he has a great wrist/slapshot. We're willing to take this player because he is the type of winger who is rare in the NHL. If you don't agree with that position by management then there's nothing you can do about it, but spew away. He was 2 weeks away from being a 2015 draft pick. Young. These aren't excuses. There are people that need to temper their expectations.

Wait Wut? Invasion of the body snatchers. What have you done with DUC?

Now that is funny right there. Try harder it`s not working.

Benning is really talking out of both sides of his mouth when he says they're rebuilding while staying competitive. He has to say that for the sake of the rest of the team and all of the fans that wouldn't support a full on rebuild. Meanwhile he's putting two 19 year olds in a lineup that is loaded with veterans in the hope that leadership and quality habits will rub off. If you notice JV's play this year, it's very similar to Horvat's last year. Don't make a mistake and get off the ice as soon as you have a chance. JV was nearly invisible in his time in Utica this year and seemed to be racing to get off of the ice. That isn't the right way to play, but with the minutes the coaches are giving him that's the only way to play. Once he starts getting more ice time he will be able to open up more on the ice. Personally I would send him back to junior after the tournament. I think that the experience of playing for 4 different teams in a season would be invaluable and give him a unique perspective. The Hitmen are doing well enough to make the playoffs and adding Jake could give them a real lift in that tournament. As long as he continues the habits that he has learned as a pro, he could continue to develop leadership qualities. Those other players you mentioned each were given an audition for the Canucks and all of them played well. Gaunce, Grenier Shinkaruk and even Jensen with his play lately could easily slot into the lineup. It has been great to see so much youth get introduced to the team this year and it will serve them well for next year when the full on rebuild begins.

At what age or stat line would you accept JV as a suitable pick in the 2014 draft #6? There has to be a number for everyone that's pi$$ing their pants over this 19 yr. old. What are your numbers? Here's the way the 2014 draft has shaken out so far http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2014e.html The fact that we have 2 players on that list with NHL stats is all I need to know.
-
He has to be careful during this tournament. Even legal hits will be called penalties if the player gets rocked.
-
I remember Benning saying after the draft that they had tried to make a deal to move up in the draft, but they were thrilled when he was still there at 23. With the salary cap more or less forcing teams to build through the draft it's been really nice to see the Canucks get some skill and raw talent in the last 3 drafts, especially with those 24th and 23rd picks.
