Watch Me: Vancouver Canucks 2020 Playoffs Pump-Up Video

Great vid :D Think I saw it on youtube last night! -
I moved Tierney and DeMelo to the islanders along with a fourth for NYI 2020 2nd, NYI 2021 2nd, Par Lindholm, and Sebastian Aho (D). Pretty comfortable move sucks to part with a 4th but it made sense since I am getting back to plugs to fill in the holes of Tierney and DeMelo. I scoured the trade block and found both Paul Stastny and Max Patches out of VGK. They wanted chippy one of my fav centers. I actually moved him a 2020 2nd and a 2021 3rd for Patches. The move kind of goes against my general amass picks and draft in quantity. But I am also playing the franchise mode with 10 min periods so I would really rather not be terrible again next year lol. My hope is I'll draft some more elite talent then maybe target a guy like Pavelski an aging vet who can bridge the gap until sarich is ready. (its sarich not sarion in terrible lol) Patches - White - Panarin Tkachuk - Backes - Simmonds Duclair - Steen - Batherson Clifford - Perrault - Brown Spares: Wilson, Lindholm Seems like a semi competent forward group to finish out the season. I look like I might actually be an nhl team upfront. Now I need to find some fixes for the backend long term. Backes is a beast for his overall. That sheer power and shot is fantastic in a middle 6. Patches was a -4 in his opening game with the Sens. Hard life lol. Tkachuk and Simmonds are both hurt again to boot.

Let the games begin! -
Very good point. Capfriendly would be a good resource!

That makes more sense. Top 4 D are very difficult to find. Hard to find an exact replica of Juolevi given his pedigree but I get your overall point you are making. There are some young D maybe like a Jake Bean or I would say Travis Sanheim but he's proven to be a very effective player already. Hmm. I would hate to move Jake for someone that doesn't pan out. Almost need someone with a high floor to make a comfortable swap without fear. We need a high end RHD to play with Hughes. A Merkley would be a fun gamble but he has character issues apparently and this regime is very clearly against players with that reputation.

Yeah his shot accuracy, skating, and defensive skills seemed a touch high. I think he is the in 86-87 range he can close the gap fast but he isn't really a super fast skater in a straight line. His poke checking is phenomenal though due to his reach. I really want Podkolzin in my game mode. Maybe he will appear in my draft rankings for the 2020 draft lol. I would love to re-sign Chris Tierney but his 4.5M ask per year just seems to steep. Even if he jumped to an 83 OA that feels to rich for what I feel is a 3rd line C on a good team. I will need to find a replacement for demelo though if I do move him. I could sub in LaDue temporarily but we haven't fared to well with him on the top pair lol. Time shall tell :D need to play more games before I give any updates. I moved Andersson up with Chabot. And LaDue with Moore. That allows me to play sound defensively. So I guess I would need a 3rd pair rhd. I moved Pelech for Fonstad and a 3rd form MTL. They approached me for a trade again lol. The kid is a low top 9 potential C but he has 95 discipline and good base stats. He will either be a good ahler for a long time or possibly an invaluable and cheap forward at the n level. Minny is offering Alexander Khovanov a low top 6 forward, a 2nd, and a 3rd for Tierney. I could take that deal or 2 x 2nds from another club. I'll have to check my draft info before I decide. I have a lot of center potential but perhaps he could be converted to a wing.

Jake had 18 goals in 69 NHL games this season. He would of eclipsed 20 probably hitting 22-23. Jt Miller who we acquired this past summer.. his best goal totals in his career prior to this year were back to back 22 goal campaigns. Miller is now 27 and hitting his stride. Jake is still 23 for another 3 weeks soon to be 24. His speed, size, in of itself would be attractive to teams. Add in he can pot you 20+ a season for the foreseeable future I don't see how he doesn't get you a future top 4 D. Perhaps the disconnect is in how I interrupted "A high risk defensive prospect". Jake isn't JT Miller - he lacks the hockey IQ but his skating and shot make him a desirable asset. We could easily get a 1st Round Pick for him +. I don't see how a more guaranteed top 4 D is out of the question. He doesn't have the reputation of a duclair or some other problem kid. He just needs to mature more. Sorry if I came off a bit hot lol. But I think we can manage to get more than how I interrupted what you said. Could you provide some example of defenseman you mean that fit that high risk definition? Are you thinking like a Ryan Merkley? or someone with a lower end ceiling? Please help me understand with some context.
-
A high risk defensive prospect? I think he has proven he has at least a solid floor that is worthy of a good potential Top 4 D prospect. I'm not sure where you are pulling that comment out from. He is at the very least a career 20 goal power forward with speed. That with another 4-5 years of prime development makes him worthy of something more guaranteed then a high risk, potentially not making it nhl D. Rasmus Andersson would be an ideal target imo. But he is more defensive.

Wow ya I like the podkolzin build you did. You may have gone a bit generous with tryamkin but I am really high on him too. I'm not sure what to think on madden anymore lol. He's no longer our property so I naturally want to bring him way down
-
I agree he continues to progress. My concern is will they accept his lack of dedication and aloof personality in the dressing room long term? He is going to eventually become a role model for the next generation of kids. I'd hate for Lind to pick up his bad habits. I guess we are probably safe from that though as Jim has focused on drafting high character and competitive kids. Jake still comes to camp like its a retreat. We weeded out Hutton, Etem, and Goldobin because of their lack of edge or determination. Jake is the last of that bunch. I like Jake and remain a supporter but I am coming around to the idea of moving him if we can find the right package. I would package him with Stecher's rights if a team is willing to pay his 3M arb rights. Which I honestly think is pretty fair for Stech but we just can't afford it due to some inflated bottom 6 contracts. Eriksson was supposed to be a top 6 guy that own guy vs Calgary instantly started his quick decline lol. Willie D not playing him with the twins regularly didn't help.

Why not just clear Loui’s contract by attaching a 1st like the Leafs did?

Since we have no AHL next season in all likelihood. I am one for sitting him the entire season. I'd even bring him a giant bowl of popcorn on game one and tell him to enjoy! If he fits idle and cannot play because we refuse to use him. It might get him to leave. I'm sure the NHL would catch wind of what we are up too though lol. It would be a Corrado thing all over again lol. Maybe give him the go to play 1 out of every 10 games. But you only let him out there for 2 shifts a period . PK Duties only. See how long he opts to stay then. That would make the org look bad though lol. -
Olli is exceptional at getting pucks to the net through traffic. I love the Edler comp it is one I use quite often myself. Hopefully he hits less shin pads . I can see him maybe maintaining Edler's high point rate of 50 maybe over a few more seasons then Eagle did. But that may also be a factor he will likely have a more balanced offensive team with our constant injection of future youth coming in to replace over priced players. It's gonna be a sad day when Pearson walks into free agency but its nice knowing we have Hoglander and Podkolzin here when that happens. I don't see a situation where we re-sign Pearson. Toffoli on the other hand fits an org need on the right side and his scoring skill should remain competitive for years to come. This is an olli juolevi chat tho. Enough with Pearson and other forwards :D I am excited to see what he can do when he is ready.
-
Lineup: J.T. Miller - Elias Pettersson - Tyler Toffoli Tanner Pearson - Bo Horvat - Brock Boeser Antoine Roussel - Adam Gaudette - Micheal Ferland Tyler Motte - Jay Beagle - Brandon Sutter. Quinn Hughes - Chris Tanev Alex Edler - Troy Stecher Oscar Fanteberg - Tyler Myers Jacob Markstrom Thatcher Demko That isn't a terrible lineup but I do dislike the lack of offence the 4th line can generate. We need to obviously play smart vs Minny but that bottom line had a combined 14 goals all season (Most of which probably came with other players). Sutter had 8, Motte had 4, and Beags had 2. Eriksson on the other hand had 6. But I am fine with benching Eriksson if it means we are planning on sitting him until he leaves to play Sweden. Fanta and Myers as a pairing was dicey at times too. I absolutely love that third line though. I would keep that 3rd line in-tacted for the entire series. Sutter does play well in big games though. if you recall his first couple games after the trade here. He was so clearly the best player on the ice for parts of those games. I am hoping he has that same energy and defensive tenacity. That was the year we started 4-0-0 lol. 2016 I think?

I wonder if part of Jake's problem is he takes this situation for granted. There has been so much narrative surrounding him being like Neely and if the Canucks ever traded him.. I wonder if that thought of us being scared to move him makes him feel safe. Because honestly he looks like he feels way to safe. Perhaps an attitude adjustment ie sit him for a few games or the series if we are winning it well enough. That might spark something in him. He seems to do just enough to meet expectations but he seems to lack the internal drive to be the best version of himself. I am a huge believer in Jake but his maturation process seems to be taking longer than others. We have endured this much though.. will he get it by next season? I don't think the org will wait to much longer if he doesn't shape up.
