Tough to let our franchise player and no. 1 pick from the original fantasy draft go. I do not make these statements often but will do short an exception here. San Jose Sharks would like to thank Jamie Benn for his services and leadership that propelled us to the Stanley Cup win! You were the heart of our franchise. We wish you all the best with Dallas and will cheer for your new team in upcoming seasons and play-offs. You deserve another shot at cup! There is no turning back now and our team is in full rebuild/retool mode. We hope that next season will serve as a starting point but I do not expect us to be bottom feeders and play-offs might be a possibility. We are building our team around younger core now and are still open to talk players over 26. Also we might have given up too much in the trade (after long, creative and enjoyable negotiations that did not include Jamie at all in the beginning) but it helps us with a cap space going forward and acquiring another 1st and Crouse is something that complements our plan nicely. I understand both @D-Money and commissioners. To me Gurianov value went down since drafted (also already 4 years ago!). Mitchell put up 57 points in NCAA and he turned 20 just some months ago, impressive for a defender. As explained by commissioners I totally understand these are still prospects and it is not easy to project their future, put value on them and decide for or against trades. So I respect their decision with GMs having responsibility for projecting and just have my opinsimilarion to D-Money´s. Funny memory. I had one trade vetoed. I wanted to acquire Datsyuk for Stephens (drafted 33 OA in RL)+ in what seemed to be Pavel´s last season. I was told the trade is favouring my team. I was kinda shocked but funny that it felt somehow good that people though I was going for a good trade. Datsyuk left the league just months later with Stephens still being a fine prospect (his career is little slowed by injuries). I am very happy the trade did no go through coz I would regret it.

Sharks are officially making Devan Dubnyk available. Aging no. 1 goalie in Minnesota on a good contract. Our team aims to contend starting the 2020/21 season again and other players are on the board including: Jonas Brodin, Ryan Getzlaf. We are open to discuss Jamie Benn as well even though he remains to be our star who will be hard to move. We are looking for both 2019 and 2020 picks and prospects. 60% is probably too strict. If we leave it on 50% plus new 125 waiver rule there should be enough opportunity to get guys cheaply (waivers) and be fine to meet the requirement I suppose.

Agree on this topic! What if we make a simple rule like accumulating min. of 50% (or stricter share - 60%) GP of the maximum GP team in the league after regular season? Currently that would mean having 50% of CBJ´s 1298 GP which is 649. Only Colorado would be failing to meet that requirement this season. Btw I am all for getting rid of plus minus. Makes no sense to have it in my view.

I don´t know how his English is, we spoke in czech. I can just assume it could be a challenge for him to speak English playing almost all his life in the Czech republic and coming from a country speaking slavic group of languages that is not close family to german/english laguages. But for sure this should not be a concern. I feel like he is himself surprised to be signed and be coming over to play in NA. He sure looks like he is still in a dream and now has his inner motivation to do what he can to play in the NHL one day. He did not look huge to me, just a kid that still needs to grow physically. For sure, Liberec and Pesan´s interest was a helping hand he just needed before being broken as a young hockey player. Haha, with that "villain" reputation I guess it was more of a joke as himself he was surprised to hear. More on him, I can´t really speak too much because I saw him just few games. He looks to me as a player that could need more development time to figure out everything he needs to do on ice in order to excel. At the same time he has not many apparent weaknesses in his game so maybe its just matter of how can he push himself to another level. Last observation from personal meeting and seeing his interviews. He is very shy and humble kid, myself I liked it so much seeing him happy to see Canucks fan asking for his signature.

So today I met Lukas (who was happily surprised to see a fan of Vancouver) on the Czech national team camp and it motivated me to translate one interview from last season´s Play-offs in Czech Extraliga. It is also about developing as a young player under young and well respected coach Pesan. He is pushing to shot more 20-year old Lukas Jasek, newly acquired talented forward. "He wants us to be focused on details. He is really into tactics but he is also genius psychologist," says the forward of elite Liberec line. He spent his all career in Trinec´s jersey. Just before the season, in his 20, he changed the club for the first time. "Filip Pesan called me he is interested in me. It really pleased me. I needed a change and Liberec was a right choice," the forward looks back who is now battling in Czech Play-off quaterfinals against Mountfield. Today there is gonna be game no. 5 (series is tied 2-2). This is your first year in Liberec. You fit in quickly, you play on top line against the best lines of opposition. Have you expected to be given such a big time on ice and trust? "When Mr. Pesan called after last season that he wants me, he told me immidiately what intentions with me he has. He told me I will be given time on ice but it won´t be given for free and I need to grind it out and deserve it. He stood his words." Did he tell you why he chose you? "I think he liked my skating and that I am a young player with a potential to grow. I felt the same. From the youngest age I played for Trinec and I needed a change. I believed Liberec will help me to grow hockey-wise." In Trinec have you been stagnating? "I can say yes. I felt I should have been developing faster. The progress was not that apparent." So in that regard did the change helped you? "For sure, but you know always it can be better, mainly from team perspective. Regular season was not very good, results were so inconsistent." Did this influence your locker room? Players could feel you should be winning more. "We were disgusted. We were much better team in many games but we lost by one goal. That was challenging. Plus there were high expectation after successful seasons in the past. We finally broke up with a winning streak just before the end of regular season." How was Filip Pesan working with you during long crisis? "He was hard on us, it was all tough. Tough practices, hours with video. He did not change any basics though, he was not panicking. He trusts the system. Liberec plays the same style for last three years." Coach knows when it´s too much of hockey, he is strict though There is this aura of excellence around coach Pesan in the Czech Republic. How does he look to you? "That aura is justified. I have never seen such a approach to the game as he has. It is hard to describe in words... He is genius in communication with players. He is a great psychologist. He knows when to be tough and when to praise. He approaches everything the same way. He will tell you straigh what you do wrong and everyone just accepts that, even those who are the same age as him. He has a big respect, everyone respects him and trusts his work that he does it well." They say he can be a good friend with players as well. "For sure. He can come, pat your back and ask about things outside of hockey. He knows when there is enough of hockey and team needs to switch off and relax." When there is a practice or game, he can be very strict, right? "Oh yeah, especially to me! (laughs)" He wants us to do things exactly as he tell us and play a game he wants. When we are not playing that way, he will tell us out loud. He is giving me hard time on practice when shooting for example." How? Tell us. "Since summer he is telling me every day that I must shoot more. I was always more of a passer. When it is 2 on 1 I almost never shoot, I am always looking to set up my teammate. He punished me for this. Whole season I had to do somersaults. (laughs) It is not easy to think about it, I repeat in my head: Shoot." How much time do you spend with video? "Hours. We go through every little detail. Me and Filip Pyrochta are the youngest players so we are given our each and every shift after every game. Then we discuss what we do wrong and right. It helps a lot. After every game, we have meetings next morning. It was individual in the beginning of the season, now we have team meetings." When I watch Liberec I have a feeling that it has an extremely strict system? Each individual knows exactly where to be and what to do. Neutral zone play is practiced with specific schemes. Am I right? "You said it absolutely correctly. When I came to Liberec myslef I was curious how this will be. Mr. Pesan´s style is quite special. He pushes us to play like a Barcelona is soccer. Many short passes, keeping possession, less dump ins, not chasing puck in corners. Everyone knows his role. Then it is not too complicated when coach makes roster changes. Role for individual does not chamge much." How hard for you it was to fit in this big system in Liberec? "It was fine. I played a lot with Michal Bulir and Martin Bakos form start and they are great players. That helped me a lot. With time I felt better and better within the system." How was Filip Pesan working with you during long crisis? "He was hard on us, it was all tough. Tough practices, hours with video. He did not change any basics though, he was not panicking. He trusts the system. Liberec plays the same style for last three years." Wearing a suit? It felt weird You had to adjust when coming to practice in suit right? "Yes, it felt weird from the beginning but now it´s just normal. It is like that in Liberec. Everyone must wear suit from U16, U18 to men. This is a small NHL here." (smiles) What is your playing style, what Pesan expects from you? I heard your opponents do not like you much. "My goal is to score points, try to score or create something. Also my responsibility goes to situations that I push someone, especially in Play-offs now. It can be just words or physical in type of some slash or push to ribs. But it is not anything too violent. I don´t hit anyone blindside near boards, I just try to get under the skin of opponents. That´s a part of hockey." You have other players for things like that in Liberec right? "That´s for sure. (laughs) Dominik Lakatos (NYR prospect), Jaroslav Vlach or Jan Stransky. We have enough of such guys." Even referees they say you are kinda a villain? "I heard that but I have no idea where this came from. Me I rather not talk at all with referess now, it makes no sense." How do you enjoy the quaterfinals against Mountfield Hradec? "It is really tough series. All league knows that Hradec plays very defensive style, it is hard to enter their zone. They try to make our lifes miserable, they play hard. In the third period, sometimes you feel so frustrated that you don´t even wanna go out on the ice. Mr. Pesan does not let us take our foot off the pedal though. We are ready for their game. Now after game 4 when we tied it to 2-2 we feel the advantage is on our side. We know that if we play the way our coach wants for us we can beat anybody."
