  1. Panthers-Bolts reminds me of early Canucks-Hawks games. That zero defense run and gun play is not going to go well for them in this series.

  2. Weird to think there was a time where Boeser was on a line with the Sedins. Young Bo was with Dorsett and Kenins.

      -AJ-

I find it cool that there's a connection of two Canuck eras with Boeser and the twins.

  3. I just realized. Are we going to waste another year of Horvat's prime, and then saddle him with two plugs for wingers again when normalcy returns? God I hope Hoglander or Podkolzin blow us away.

We still have Pearson for this season, and he's a good winger for defensive/ two-way support.  If Podkolzin comes in and proves he's ready we'd probably have a well-rounded top-6 (skilled two-way top line, heavier second line).  I also wouldn't view the 2nd line wingers as precariously, since I think if anything they need to figure out who plays bottom pair D, and if Holtby's still good.  The wingers will be fine (MacEwen can fit in a pinch, Hawryluk's probably got the speed to match, and even Motte could have upside).

    3. -AJ-

      -AJ-

Pearson isn't incredible, but he's a capable second line guy. Virtanen could get there, but he's admittedly a stretch right now. Hopefully he takes another step.

I expect Eriksson to be relegated to the bottom six or extra forward positions.

      Probably

  4. At the level of bewilderment/shock where you can't help but just maniacally laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation. I hope this is some Aquilini money management bull$&!# because I don't want to accept that Benning &^@#ed us.

    1. Dazzle

      Dazzle

People are so ridiculously impatient and shortsighted. There are three things affecting this team now.

      1) Flat Salary Cap

      2) Expansion Draft

      3) Offer sheets

Benning is ensuring his team is protected from all three factors. This is why Benning was insistent on short term.

    2. Brad Marchand

      Brad Marchand

I've been strangely indifferent to everything that's happened. Not that I'm happy with how it's played out, but I can't find the energy to be angry or even annoyed.

    3. Zhukini

      Zhukini

      4) Money tied up in players who shouldn’t be playing

  5. Pack er up people, see you all come draft time.

  6. Miller - Pettersson - Boeser
    Toffoli - Bo - Pearson
    Leivo - Gaudette - Virtanen
    Sutter - Beagle - Motte

That's some forward depth, hope our defense can keep up lol ...

It's not a question on whether our D can keep up....it's whether they can stay healthy.

We have depth on the bottom end of the lineup (defensively) but it's razor thin up front (top four).

    3. Mathew Barzal

      Mathew Barzal

Edler and Tanev are the defenseman I trust in our own zone currently. Even if healthy I question our ability to handle forwards with the size+speed combo come playoff time.

    4. NewbieCanuckFan

      NewbieCanuckFan

Myers has been fairly reliable in his own end so far for us...I am worried when Tanev or Edler get their usual injuries (we’ve been lucky so far....knock on wood).  As that means Myers will be facing not just more minutes but tougher ones as well.  He can’t do it alone and we have little depth on the blueline to handle even if one of those two are out.

  7. Feel like Green has no concept of how to coach the top six. Every single line plays a hard nosed bottom six style of hockey. When I watch Horvat he's playing like he's still with Dorsett and Kassian.

      smithers joe

i agree with those 4 top six players. green’s job is to find the players to go with them. i think of the bottom six players, pearson has shown to be the best fit with bo so far. green has tried several line mates with bo. i don’t know what kind of line mates would work the best  with bo. maybe we don’t have them yet. i admit louie is miscast but until they find the right winger for him, louie’s defense allows the other two, to press harder in the O zone.

imo, if people assigned ever forward to the line they should be on, there would only be 4 top six players. how is that green’s fault?

jake has really improved but still might be a 3rd liner.  leivo had some success there but really is a 3rd liner.

benning was hoping that ferland would be a top six winger. that hasn’t worked out yet.

in bending’s favour he may have drafted the other 2 top six wingers.

don’t think anyone on the farm is ready yet, i could be wrong.

i’m not saying that a new view of a coach couldn’t improve their out put but pardon the expression, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.

green should be allowed 6 top players and then if they can’t take this team to the next level, then fire green and benning.

Kole Lind has 39 points in 49 games. He's just learning to be defensively responsible too.

I'm kinda disappointed Gads has only 14 points in 32 games. However 10 of those points are goals.

It just kind of sucks we have a lot of players who aren't pulling their weight (err salary?).

    4. CanuckleHorse

      CanuckleHorse

Coaches are supposed to bring out the best in their players and give them structure that will help them become the best they can be. They also need to have a system in place that gives their top players a chance to shine. They need to motivate and manage these players correctly and help them to recognize their fullest potential.

  8. The Tyler Myers hype train didn't last very long. That contract though, woof.

@Tystick my thoughts exactly, if he watched Tanev and would make the simple play and contain things he would probably be less error-prone.  Awful seeing him whiff on pucks and get beat when he could've simply made the simple calm maneuvers.  Maybe it's just not his kind of play though.

    3. Tystick

      Tystick

      @Phil_314

I think he will find his style. IMO, he's fully capable, just makes too many aggressive plays.

Seems like he wants to do it all, but sometimes less is more.

    4. SabreFan1

      SabreFan1

He's been this way since his 2nd year with the Sabres.  Sometimes he's good, other times you want to facepalm while watching him.

I still have hope Edler and the coaches will help make him more consistent.

  9. Zegras should have been a Canuck, what a farce. Hope Benning genuinely exhausted his options to move up.

I like Zegras too for his hockey IQ, but a few things that Podkolzin has is that he has pest potential - high motor, physical. He reminds me of Matthew Tkachuk and Brendan Gallagher somehow, and I think that's what we need in a top 6 role.

    3. smithers joe

      smithers joe

it was interesting when benning was asked about taking pettersson. he said they had him picked over the other forwards taken in the draft. but when asked if he would have taken pettersson if makar was still available? he said that would have been a tough call, as he saw makar as a franchise d-man.

    4. JM_

      JM_

I think you could make a case Quinn is the better dman without the puck but yeah, that offensive skill set is quite something. I do think we're going to have RoY finalists 3 years in a row tho which is a nice feat for Benning.

Vanek was fantastic for us, from his production and what he brought off the ice to the return we got in Jokinen and Motte. Jokinen wasn't kept of course but he had a respectable showing here. And Motte's a gamer of course.

What impressed me the most about Vanek when he was here was how good his hockey IQ is. Not surpised he had some pretty good chemistry with Boeser.

Tbh, some of the rumours I heard today (that Benning chuckled at when asked about them) had me worried.  I was really glad to hear JB remind us today that he is being very careful to rebuild by adding young guys who fit in with his group.

    3. Alflives

      Alflives

Lames don't have Quinn Hughes.  No team has a Quinn Hughes player, other than us.  Quinn is a uniquely gifted player, who moves the puck both as a carrier, and as a passer.  Teams that fore-check Quinn too aggressively will be caught on a lot of 4 on 3 breaks.  Quinn to partner, or winger, and back to Quinn at top speed right up the gut.

  25. LETS GOO. BLUES NEXT BABY!
