Do you think teams would give up a first rounder for a prospect who in a 2016 redraft would be pick maybe around 15/20?

So basically you trade your pick for a player with same value but two year older..

(I’m genuin curious, don’t want to sound polemic )

Not saying they would but for a team like Edmonton more prospects do nothing to help a team that should be gunning for the playoffs.

It's not like Juolevi has zero value either, he was having a decent season in the AHL until his injury.

Why give up on Juolevi now?

Seems like the worst possible timing considering his injury and what it does to his current trade value. The kid was doing more than ok in the AHL before it got cut short because of surgery. He might take a little longer but he's a lock to be an NHLer and it's likely he will be a top 4.

Back on topic, a lot of guys I like this year so I keep changing my really amateur top 10

    Hughes

    Kakko

    Podkolzin

    Cozens

    Byram

    Boldy

    Turcotte

    Dach

    Krebs

    Broberg

    HM: Zegras, Harley, Kaliyev

Not giving up, selling from a position of strength for a position of need.

to win a cup you need to have the next Group of 7, in order of importance:

    1C - Pettersson

    1D- ? hughes maybe

1G- Markstrom and Demko are real possibilities

    2C - Horvat

    1W- Boeser

    3C- Gaudette

    2D- ?

the right pieces are coming into place, with woo, stech, Hutton, Brisebois, Sautner, tanner, Edler, tryamkin, there is potential for a good d corps, we need to hit a home run this draft and sign a key free agent and then cook our players

    ???- Pettersson Boeser

    ???-Horvat  Virtanen

    Roussel - Gaudette- Macewan/Granlund/Ericksson

    Beagle - Sutter- Motte

    Edler Stecher

    Hutton Tanev

    Hughes Guddy

It's hard to think of Hughes as a number one D because those tend to be minute crunching Dmen who are strong on both sides of the puck. Along the lines of Doughty or Weber.

Really? Goldy's ceiling is WAY higher.

Goldobin's ceiling is Nylander-lite and he has shown no signs of coming close to that.

Leivo is the kind of 40 point workhorse you want come playoff time.

  5. I feel kike one of the few people who have supported Gaunce from the get go.

Why do people feel to the need to expect point production out of this kid. He EXCELS at being a shutdown center with his defensive acumen. Put him on our fourth line with two veteran wingers.

Sammy Pahlsson was an integral part of the Ducks Cup run and that man barely cracked 20 pts a couple times in his career.

  6. Finally got a chance to see Dahlen perform today. He's ... disappointing to say the least. His game just does not translate to North American ice very well.

Kid needs a strong offseason to make sure his development doesn't stall.

If I remember correctly, Pettersson's WJC's last year wasn't off the charts.   The WJC can have less structure to it at times so I wouldn't worry too much.

    Pettersson just wasn't noticeable.

Hughes is noticeable on every shift, and it's an even split between good and bad. The kid has 3-4 poor giveaways a game due to poor decision making. He really needs to clean up that aspect of his game prior to making the jump.

Some people are claiming we should see him in the NHL at the end of this year. I'm reluctant to say that it's a good idea at this point.

  8. Hughes is such a special talent, but he definitely plays a selfish game. From slamming his stick on the ice demanding the puck to his over reliance on the rover style in the offensive zone, he's going to be a double edged sword in the NHL for sure.

  9. There's something off about Goldobin to me, even when he's playing well I don't really get the same vibes from him as I do from players like Baertschi or Sutter.

He reminds me a lot of Vrbata in that sense, he might work hard on occasion but there's no heart behind his playstyle. He doesn't push himself to be better than he already is.

Tanev had an outstanding game tonight. I saw a lot of offensive moves from him that I don't often see. He was deserving of the 2nd star tonight.

He really exhibited some fantastic decision making skills in the neutral zone with his puck movement today. I kind of hope we move him to a contender so he gets a fair shot at the Cup in his prime.

The bolded part is sophistry and deliberately misleading. The reason Sergachev hasn't played more than 20 min most of the year has nothing to do with his play itself. I've watched several Tampa games and yes, he gets 3LD minutes but he is as good as anyone not named Edler on our left side. The reason he doesn't get more than 3LD minutes, is because he plays behind Hedman and McDonagh. If those two were in our team, even Edler would be seeing 3LD minutes of under 20min a game.

Its pretty unquestionable right now, that Sergachev is a far, far better defenseman than Juolevi and the advantage is with Sergachev. It is a marathon and Juolevi has a chance to eke out ahead eventually, but currently, Segachev is miles and miles better than Juolevi.

If OJ couldn't make the team in Vancouver, it makes no logical sense to say he could've made the team in a far BETTER defensive team than Vancouver.  Out there, there really is ony 1 spot for a left-defenseman to compete for, since McDonagh and Hedman are auto-locks- they would be in practically ANY team.

Here, only Edler is a lock on the left side, leaving TWO spots that are far easier for a rook to break into. Unless you wish to argue that Hutton and Del Zotto are on the same planet as McDonagh.  Yet OJ couldn't break in, while MS did. If anything, the case for Sergachev to be a more developed player if he was in Vancouver is far easier to make, precisely due to this reason.

I'm questioning your ability to assess Sergachev's play here. After meandering through the Tampa Bay HF subforum it seems to be a general consensus that Sergachev has been extremely lacklustre on defense, so much so that fans are calling for him to be scratched.

He has fantastic raw offensive tools but he is still prone to many questionable decisions with the puck like we saw on that goal tonight.

I mean I’d rather win than be tough....

You can be both, I don't think we should need anyone telling us that as Canucks fans.

Hockey isn't a game that's policed well at all, if teams know they can take liberties without repercussions they will.
