  1. If you open the tweet the replies are a series of Pod highlights!
  2. I think Makar will take it, Pettersson showed what a difference an extra year of development can do for a player at that age. Makar is battle tested in the playoffs and will likely be quarterbacking one of the best powerplays in the league. Not to mention being entirely reliable in his own zone, Hughes will likely need to be sheltered with a defensively sound partner.
  3. Big seasons incoming for Lind and Gadjovich. Can't afford to have missed with both those second round picks given the players available in their round.
  4. Really looking forward to watching Jasek play this year. He's probably the Utica player I'm most keen on following. If he takes another step forward offensively I think he's capable of hovering around PPG.
  5. Rewatching Boeser highlights and just realizing how slick Vanek was.

The three goals in a row in this vid were pure brilliance.

Vanek was fantastic for us, from his production and what he brought off the ice to the return we got in Jokinen and Motte. Jokinen wasn't kept of course but he had a respectable showing here. And Motte's a gamer of course.

I'll always miss that breakaway slapper

    3. Brad Marchand

What impressed me the most about Vanek when he was here was how good his hockey IQ is. Not surpised he had some pretty good chemistry with Boeser.

  6. What a great week to be an Arsenal fan!

Good chance we get Tierney as well!

Need a center half. I would try to get someone like Rugani, or Demiral from Juve.

  7. Yep. Having so many unknowns going into this season is a bit unnerving. It was a big sink or swim off season by Benning, now we just have to wait to see how it pans out.
  8. This is probably a poor take but IMO if you're on the smaller end of the height spectrum and provide little to no contribution in the offensive end you have to Hamhuis-level in your own end. Stecher could get there but he isn't just yet. I don't see him being part of our defensive core moving forward. He's a serviceable third pairing defender currently but he doesn't have any dynamic qualities that make him worth keeping. He needs to separate himself in some way from the rest of the players.
  9. Still the best player at reading Pettersson off the cycle, a much better fit stylistically than Boeser even IMO. But it's put up or shut up time for this kid, he can't expect to hold a roster spot with his current compete level.
  10. I don't either. He makes a lot of selfish decisions with the puck, which is okay when it's even strength and he's carrying two plugs in a north-south style of a game. On the powerplay though? Jamming the puck on net from the side when your up a man is just a waste of man advantage time.
  11. I think the main thing to understand here is that Pettersson will produce regardless of his linemates, he will also draw in the oppositions top defenders on a nightly basis. Boeser and Horvat produce together and essentially lay the groundwork for a 1B line. I think it makes sense to give Horvat Boeser, and have Pettersson take some combination of Miller/Ferland/Goldobin.
  12. No wonder he made sure he was settling down with this contract, man's never gonna be able to set foot in Russia again.
  13. It'll be interesting to see how consistent this guy is over the course of an 82 game season. Hope he does well, we could use a player with his tool-set.
  14. Ferland has played with the likes of Gaudreau, Monahan, and Aho so far in his career to generate his 'peak' 40 point totals. Compher was playing with the likes of Tyson Jost and Colin Wilson, all the while being a defensively responsible centerman. Sometimes I have to remind myself that this board is dedicated to housing Canucks homers.
  15. That's a fair point. Horvat could very well hit 70 points this year if all goes well.
  16. What was the purpose of including our current roster if your question only pertains to the 2011 roster? Did you think about what you were asking before you typed it out? To answer the question, that team was a juggernaut. They'd be a top 3 team at minimum in any given year.
  17. Anyone have a stream handy? :/
  18. Highly dependent on how big of a step Pettersson takes forward in his development and with the opposition likely hyperfocused on him, it'll be interesting to see. I think we leapfrog the Coyotes, but that's about it. Our defense doesn't stack up with the top three.
  19. I'm not so sure. Miller is more of a play maker with a big body so he can shield the puck and take punishment along the boards ala Henrik Sedin (poor comparison, but just to give an idea of what I'm trying to say). I don't think he's necessarily tough to play against though. I think Virtanen's traits will translate better to Ferland's play-style, which is essentially being a complimentary winger who finishes plays and makes life difficult for the opposition. I find it hard to see Virtanen ever thinking the game as well as Miller does, but he can influence the game in other ways.
  20. I hope Virtanen at least takes notes on Ferlands tenacity. I for one, am extremely excited to potentially see Virtanen in the playoffs. I think he's the kind of player who will find that extra gear when the whistles get put away.
  21. When Pettersson needs his next contract we are going to have to gut this team.
  22. How many people in the world go to their jobs thinking "I want be the best at what I do and take on all difficult responsibilities" vs "Another 9-5 before I get to go home"? People don't need to let their work define them, if they don't love hockey but it's the best way they know to make money then good on them.
