  1. Y’all gotta pin the survivorstoriesproject post so people don’t keep asking about where the info’s coming from.
  2. I’m fine with the other signings. This one I’m not so sure about.
  3. I'm late to this party so I have a question: why wasn't Petey signed before? Why let it get to this?
  4. Not a bad return, considering any GM could’ve potentially argued that his value depreciated this past year. Still, the glaring fact here is that JB is essentially betting on OEL and his contract over NM and his. We’ll see how this ages.
  5. The wait and see approach applied for 1. But 8? Now I see why JB didn’t bother waiting. Good riddance.
  6. This is just like any other career. Some people have the ambition to try themselves in a more intense/high stakes big market while others are fine with - like you said - taking their paycheck and living in relative anonymity in a low-key market. There's people for everything and neither option is necessarily wrong.
  7. Tbf, if your main sources of deterrence are guys like Drance, Sekeres, Dhaliwal, Johnston and Twitter, you probably need to build some mental fortitude.
  8. This. People will blame the allegation for his demise, but the guy was already trending in this direction. Any NHL prospect would kill for the amount of chances Jake was given to succeed.
  9. I haven’t said that I’m against this trade precisely because it hinges on which OEL shows up. But that cap would’ve been gained next year regardless. Is what we paid the Yotes to take 3 1-year contracts off our hands worth it when we could’ve just bided our time? We’re certainly not contending this coming season.
  10. I still don’t understand why so many people are framing the salary trade-off as a win for the Canucks. Beagle’s, Louie’s and Roussel’s contracts. are. expiring. OEL’s contract is a whopping $7 million/5 years (after Arizona’s cap retention). It’s not that difficult to understand.
  11. All 3 contracts are expiring. OEL's contract runs through 2026/2027. Not saying the Canucks have lost the trade (because we'd have to see which version of OEL we're getting) but it's disingenuous to leave out such a big detail.
  12. Exactly. Absolutely huge gamble by Benning. Those referencing the dead cap going the other way forgot to mention the fact that it’s coming off the books in a year’s time. If OEL continues his decline, we’ll have a total albatross of a contract that we’ll have to deal with. It’s obviously too early to come to a conclusion but this could either be a blessing or a complete disaster.
  13. Not sure I agree with signing bridge/mid-term deals for guys of the quality of Hughes and Petey. These guys aren’t wait-and-see prospects; they’re probably our most valuable assets. Regardless, JB pretty emphatically stated that there won’t be cap crunch problems this off-season. I intend to hold him to his word.
  14. We defs need a top-6 forward, but considering how leaky our defense was last season I’d be worried about losing Schmidt and not getting anyone of compatible caliber back to fill in for him.
  15. Didn’t we learn from Virtanen not to directly correlate size with playoff performance. Poor kid has loftier expectations than Pettersson when he arrived.
  16. Does anyone know what they’d be “advising” on? Surely it wouldn’t be on hockey operations/management seeing as they have pretty much no experience there. If this is to get them into the org and groom them with the objective of having them take over positions of more responsibility/leadership in the future, then great. Otherwise, this does seem to be a bit of a PR move.
  17. Top-6 forward. Guys like Highmore and Motte should not be seeing extended minutes in the top-6.
  18. Hard to take anything from this tbh, glad to see most people were responsible enough to not attend a gathering for something as frivolous as a sports team GM. When we go back to normalcy and people are allowed back into Rogers Arena is when we’ll have a better indication on public opinion re/ GMJB.
  19. I was thinking along the lines of shayster. Doubt there's much evidence at this point, to which she'd in all likelihood go for a settlement. But like Alf said, in the scenario where it successfully goes through civil, I'm not sure how it would work. Someone would need to have in-depth knowledge of Jake's contract and what would constitute a violation/breach.
  20. Even if it involves sexual assault? Surely there's a clause in his contract that covers that too.
  21. This'll actually be fun. This team needs a true rival. The Alberta teams have each other and let's be honest, Chicago and Boston (with their cups and all) don't pay as much attention to us as we do to them.
  22. Definition of accountability: the state of being accountable or when an individual experiences consequences for their actions. Don't play coy, old. This is not about counterpointing. The only reason I mentioned Gudbranson and Sbisa was because you took the same approach with those two and after wasting years of my life arguing with you it turned out you were completely off. It's bewildering how you think I'd spend months (probably years knowing you) entertaining it again, though I'm surprised posters are still falling for it. And about Highmore - I said this trade was too premature to gauge a winner. Maybe you should make sure you read the actual posts in their entirety instead of winding yourself up over your past mistakes.
