Lol. Imagine posting out-of-context stat takes, having them backfire on you multiple times, and still thinking you can get away with it. Talk about banking on ignorance. But you're right, it's not worth my time. Posters are catching on. I just hope you don't disappear on us again if another one of your takes ages badly. Cheers.

Come on old, it's almost like you think I joined this forum yesterday. Anyone worth their salt on here knows about your uncanny ability to flatter any player you fancy with out-of-context stats. Don't you remember when you made Erik Gudbranson and Luca Sbisa look like the second coming of Scott Stevens and Paul Coffey with your advanced stat hot takes? Boy did that ever backfire on you. Just a year ago there you were trying to coin the term "moderate positive value" to try to save face on Erik. The only cool story here is that people still naively upvote your hot takes. I specifically remember a discussion (though I admittedly don't remember who it was exactly, so don't take this one personally) where someone argued that Jake's shot was elite because he had a high shot accuracy %. In reality, for that specific stretch of games that the poster was focusing on, Jake was prone to shooting from the blue line and right at the goalie's crest. Moral of the story: stats are useful when used with context, but watch the games too. Keeping it on topic and directed at no one in particular: I believe both parties have already stated that the COVID rumors are not true. So unless there's an insider here (which I highly doubt) this trade should be gauged explicitly on both players' performances down the line and not on theoretical circumstances that may or may not have pushed a trade.

So you're saying the time it took to write that one sentence was greater than whatever it would've taken me to fish for 2016 posts? Actually, don't answer that. The problem with these stats rants you write is that they look good on paper but don't always age well. This brings me back to when you spent months defending Gudbranson with similar posts while he was literally tripping over his own skates during games. Fast forward 5 years and he's worth next to nothing. Sure, I'll give you that Jake is more versatile, but you omitted the fact that he was pretty useless defensively during the first few years with the org. One of his biggest criticisms back then was the fact that he coasted most of the time and that he didn't bother tracking back, so much so that for a certain period of time Jake looked like a top-6 or bust player given how little Jake showed in defensive awareness and work rate, not to mention that he'd rarely use his size to his advantage. Main difference between Virtanen and Gaudette? We gave Jake more time to figure it out. As others have accurately stated before, it's much easier to convert a C to a winger than vice-versa. There was certainly room to convert Gaudette into a winger, especially given how NHL teams nowadays roll with 3 scoring lines. The Canucks' inability to do so - which has been exacerbated by the Blackhawks pretty much immediately identifying and taking advantage of this opportunity - could totally be seen as a shortcoming by the team. Regardless, getting rid of a player who scored 33 points in 59 games in only his second season in the league is a tad premature no matter how you want to spin it. Nonetheless, it's too early to assume a winner in this trade. Plain and simple.

Come on now, old. You're asking me to go fishing for posts in 2016 when you were just as active as anyone in that thread. The "it is what it is" comment never sat right with posters and the trade served as an opportunity for people to vent about him. There's no revisionism there. See, this is what I don't understand. Why does there need to be answer for where Gaudette will fit going forward? For the better part of the past 7 years, we had no idea where Virtanen's niche was in this team. Some had him slated in the top-6, others in the middle-6 and others in the bottom-6. There was literally no answer for where he fit in this group (heck, there still isn't) but that didn't stop posters from asking to give him more time to put it together. Again, different parameters are being applied to different players, which is fine, so long as people admit that there's a bit of a double standard going on. For example, pretty much everybody coincides with the fact that Eriksson was given many opportunities due to his contract. Anyone else would've already been sent packing.

Many of the people who are being overly harsh on Gaudette after 2 seasons and who were willing to throw McCann under the bus after 1 season with the team were preaching patience with Virtanen after 7 years of disappointment. It’s a double standard luxury that comes with the benefits of being a home town boy I guess.

Having Benning take over scouting full time would be great, I think it would suit his strengths and interests, but he’d really have to swallow his pride to do something like that. Would be a massive downgrade for him.

I would've liked to get rid of Jake even before this rumor broke out, but now I fear that they'll keep him because prematurely cutting ties with him would go against the whole notion of innocent until proven guilty and could make the org look bad. Also, we can forget about him being claimed in the expansion draft. Good luck getting the Kracken to voluntarily take on a PR nightmare.
-
I also have a friend who’s still paying dearly from a false allegation, so I know it’s a tricky situation to maneuver. Unfortunately, as much as we like to parrot the “innocent until proven guilty” saying, we all know it’s not true. Jake will stop being demonized by society only if/when he proves his innocence.

Let’s remember that the initial testimony was published on a private Instagram account where victims of sexual abuse could vent about their experiences. She didn’t come forward, somebody outed her experience, which makes it look less and less like a cynical slander situation. I agree on not coming to premature conclusions but it’s not a good look for Jake.

Claiming that the Blackhawks won the trade because of Gaudette's goal is just as silly as claiming that the Canucks have won the trade because Gaudette sat his first few games. See what I did there? (Directed at no one in particular, but rather at some of the premature assertions that have been thrown around in GDTs).

I didn’t hate Simmonds before. I do now. That was pretty low. -

Wasn't going there. Logically-speaking, you'd think that the three years where X team has their star players on ELCs should be the years with relatively higher cap flexibility. The fact that we're struggling to ice a competitive team because we're up against the cap (while having Pettersson and Hughes on ELCs) is a scary thought. -

Didn't I say that special teams have been underwhelming? Or did you skim over that part? Canucks could fire the assistant coaches tomorrow and I wouldn't have any complaints. -

I'd be hard-pressed to argue that the special teams haven't been underwhelming, because they have. Not sure I'd agree with the premise that we should be near the top of the league though, there's a lot of talent out there. -

Don’t think Green’s been that bad, personally. If he were losing with a good lineup I’d agree, but you can’t play a collection of players like Hawryluk, Highmore, Virtanen, MacEwan, Boyd and Vesey over a stretch of games and expect to consistently win at the NHL level. And this is with Hughes and Petey on the last years of their ELCs. This all keeps coming back to Jim Benning. -

This is sort of what happens when you ice this quality of line-up. What’s scary is that the only core guy who’s really missing is Pettersson. That’s it. -

This is why this forum scares me sometimes. There’s people out here who genuinely believe that expressing negative/disapproving opinions about the team is a bannable offense. This is why CDC is known as a cheerleading forum. -

So Lind is playing tonight? Or will he be in the press box? If so, I wonder where he'd slot in. -
