  1. He's been compared with David Booth (a fair comparison imo), and CDC lost their sh!t. The concept of Ehlers being soft has been disproven time and again by those who actually watch him. It seems like those who don't tend to repeatedly bring this up.
  2. My bad. But still, Neely...
  3. Whatever amount of leadership he may have or may learn in the future, that doesn't justify comparing him to one of the best leaders of his generation in Doan. That's like seeing Burrows do a neat trick and comparing him to a hockey hall of famer. a semblance of something doesn't constitute comparing him with a great. But then again, hyperbolic comparisons aren't anything new around here. I mean, a user above me just compared Jake with Lemieux lol...
  4. Part of what makes Doan's skill set so valuable in the league is his leadership abilities. This is similar to how posters on here like to include physicality in Jake's skill set. I find the comparison to Torres more accurate but alas, we're called trolls if we don't compare him to a top 6 forward.
  5. A poor man's Kreider maybe... But Doan? Based on JV's impeccable leadership abilities?
  6. "I watch the AHL because I'm a Comets fan" he said... "I watch other teams' prospects" he said... That settles it, how can I even begin to question that solid assertion? lmao. If you really watched other teams' prospects, you'd know that our prospect pool isn't really all that. I would definitely not consider it healthy, at least not yet.
  7. I was alluding more to those two posters' notion of which type of player we should draft - this is something that's reflective of what CDCers tend to say nowadays. We're going to need elite skill eventually; if you think that we can win a cup with 'tough as nails' guys like Virtanen then I'm sorry but no. And listing prospects such as Virtanen, McCann, Baer, Boeser, Tryamkin, and Pedan is great and all. Everybody can list prospects and say "the future looks bright!" Fact is that at least half of those guys won't reach their projected potential. You're doing what just about any rose-coloured fan would do by listing our most promising guys and projecting them to all reach their ceiling. And lastly, you should take a good, serious look at the prospect pools of all the other NHL teams and put everything into perspective. Some of our prospects may look good but relative to all the other prospect pools, they're below average. Don't just close yourself off to your own fantasy world but instead look at the bigger picture. If our ultimate goal is to win a cup then our prospect pool + whoever we get this coming draft is definitely not enough.
  8. Coulda woulda shoulda. If the Sedins were to be in our draft range this coming year, CDC would probably be talking about how they're too soft to be in the West; you just know it too. What made them dominant players in the WEST? Their over abundance of skill. Our Sedin window has closed (unless you somehow think we can still win a cup with them leading the team). At this point, we need to draft based on who is most likely to replace them in the future. A guy like Virtanen is not going to replace Hank or Dank.
  9. Yeah I think we can all agree that the other three are better options than Ritchie. ... Yet there were people on here who wanted Ritchie because he was big and strong.
  10. lmao. Some posters on here really need to see the light of day. Don't matter if it's: - Completely neglecting Ehlers because it doesn't suit one's argument - The double standards when it comes to point totals, or - Saying a rookie is not as good as the Sedins despite only being 19 (while hypocritically taking the be patient/wait and see approach with Jake) CDC's the gift that keeps on giving. Keep doing you Stank.
  11. You're seriously delusional if you really think we're the ones who can't get over it. It's posters like you who felt obliged to bring up the debate after a long period of not having it.
  12. Couldn't have said it better myself. Most of these guys haven't seen Ehlers play 1 game in their lives. How do you argue against grade A homerism? You can't. But then again, if you keep away from this thread they'll interpret that as "repenting" or whatever. Why even bother.
  13. I dare you to go to other fan boards and say "Virtanen has elite skill" with a straight face . oh CDC, you're always good for comic relief.
  14. Jake most definitely does not have elite skill, at least based on what he's shown so far. If you're willing to set the bar that low then there's a whole lot of other prospects that now qualify as having elite skill. And saying that Ehlers plays a perimeter game epitomizes ignorance and shows that you haven't even seen him play. How can I argue against someone who has only seen one player? Give me a break. I know what context you're arguing from and I still disagree. No one's punching at shadows here.
  15. Lol this is as straw man as it gets. It it doesn't matter if Ehlers becomes the best player by far, Virtanen was the "best choice for this team" because of his push back, grit, and ability to finish a check. My god how pathetic. I can totally see this continue to be used many years down the road. We can gain physicality through free agency but it's extremely hard to gain elite skill the same way.
  16. "No question anymore" based on a game we lost 5-1 . And this is why I feel the need to comment on here. And FFS, Ehlers' injury is eye-related, nothing to do with his physique. But again, CDC will try to put its spin on things to justify why Ehlers is simply not cut out for physical play. Virtanen vs. Nylander is definitely up in the air but you're definitely homers if you can't at least admit that Ehlers is the better prospect thus far.
  17. The reason the doubters left was because there was no need for the argument to keep persisting. Now it seems like some members on here take that as if we've repented or something... it's as if they're itching to start another debate. Lol, and you say we're the ones with no lives. Jake was the wrong choice imo, I don't need to post here everyday to validate my pov here... although it's as if some people on here are sitting at the edge of their seats just waiting for it to happen.
  18. Don't say that he's not soft because CDC won't have anymore reasons to say that JV is better! LOL. Nostradamus.
  19. This is pure projection. You simply don't know for sure. Do you have some crystal ball that tells you these things? In a draft where you pick 6th, you always pick the player with the best offensive potential. As I've said before, Ehlers is quickly overturning his "soft" tag. He's now 6'0" and is gaining weight while quickly learning to crash the net. This tells me that you've never even seen him play so I'm questioning how you can comment on Ehlers without knowing a thing about him.
  20. This has got to be the worst excuse for not picking BPA.
  21. The incessant JB defence will wear out soon enough with another one of his boneheaded moves. Can't wait to see you flip the switch as if you've always doubted him.
  22. This. Can't wait for Benning to trade Boeser for another "great two-way guy further along his development."
  23. Did you just compare JV with Lindros? LOL. Did you just compare JV with Neely? LOL x2. Never change CDC, never change! Both Cam and Eric have more talent in their left ball than all of Virtanen. And I'd rather you not mention the "softies" as one of them (Ehlers) is leaving JV in the dust this season. Literally, ONLY Canucks fans would pick Jake over Nikolaij at this point. For all those who love to use the "short" excuse, Ehlers' last recorded height 6'0". Goodbye lowly excuses! For all those who love the "soft" and "perimeter player " excuses, Ehlers, in a matter of 40-ish games, has also learned to crash the net in the same way Baertschi has despite being 4 years younger! Goodbye uneducated arguments! He also has 26 points in 57 games in his first season. Would you look at that! But wait, I thought the whole notion of "improvement" only applied to Virtanen? I thought only Virtanen was capable of a noticeable improvement gap and that Ehlers was going to stay as the same "soft, perimeter" player forever? Nope! "Let's compare Virtanen to some of the best power forwards in the history of the game because.... because.... uhh.... he hits!" "Let's keep disregarding the fact that JB missed two possibly better players despite them playing better and showing more improvement thus far just so we don't feel bad" - CDC
  24. Again, an NCAA hockey player has never had to drop out of a hockey program for academic reasons... it's unheard of at least to me. To say that it doesn't go on in hockey is a stretch imo because while it may not be lucrative to some of the southern universities, it's lucrative enough to some of the northern ones like UND. If one of their star players falls short in their academics, will they really be let go? I highly, highly doubt it. I'm not talking about doctoring grades... I'm sure there's a bunch of little things that can help them along the way - little things that obviously will never be offered to the usual student.
