Well, UND is a big player in NCAA hockey so who knows just how lucrative the money is. But I also see it in regards to relevance. Should Boeser make it big in the NHL (comparing his numbers with those of Toews and Oshie), UND is looking at another opportunity of adding another distinguished alumni and adding more prestige and relevance to their program. In short, who knows? Helping Boeser could be as discrete as telling a professor to be a bit more lenient with him or going over his work before he hands it in. I, personally, have never heard of academics being a deciding factor for an important NCAA player leaving.

I'm not saying that UND doctors grades but it wouldn't surprise me to see the work load being made lighter for Brock. It would be a cold day in hell to see their all-star freshman being let go because he couldn't reach the cut in his economics class. And I do think that hockey is economically big in UND. I mean, you don't invest over 3 million in facility renovations for a pee wee sport. Their stadium also looks top class.

That's a very extreme way of analyzing the situation and I highly doubt that freshmen like Boeser think about it in such a way (especially when they tend to opt for staying). The GPA argument is very weak because there's absolutely no way a school is going to let GPA get rid of their athletes. Heck, with schools like Notre Dame, Mississippi State, Georgetown, etc. all been accused of grade fixing in the past, I wouldn't be surprised to see the workload on Brock being made a lot lighter. How do you think that NCAA athletes (some of whom are dumb as rocks) get by their academia without a smidge? Furthermore, has any one NCAA player (important to their team) ever been expelled for reasons regarding their grades?

If Virtanen really is with Chloe Grace Moretz then major props to that man. Best score he's had all season.

I have a feeling that Brock may not be as willing to go pro as quickly as some of you think. He's winning, he's scoring, he's in one of the the best development schools in the NCAA, and the facilities are top notch. North Dakota take their hockey seriously and it wouldn't surprise me to see that Brock is on a full scholarship. Money isn't a factor for him atm and let's be honest, as an athlete/famous freshman, he's probably enjoying university life to its fullest. It's not uncommon for players in the NCAA to want to stay longer. I doubt he's itching to go to Utica with what's happening in North Dakota. Him being offered a place in the Canucks next year could change things but I really hope that we don't take that route with him and take our time to develop him; he's too good.

You can't just drop rookies into the NHL to speed up a rebuild. Development doesn't work like that. Hate to sound like a broken record but Detroit is the best at this kind of stuff and constantly stresses the need to develop a player gradually. If Mantha were a Canuck, for example, he'd probably already be seeing second line minutes.

I don't think it's all as easy as you make it seem. I get Higgins but Burrows is a fan favourite and I don't think they'll just buy him out. When has that ever happened? Besides, what's the logic behind buying him out when you can trade him for something? He's not nearly as useless as Higgins and has the bite to make him a competent third or fourth liner down the road.

This. Oh, and Ehlers got a hat-- Wait, it's already been mentioned on here LOL.

This is a projection, not a fact. That is, unless you're psychic. In that case, please tell me the next winning power ball numbers.

Not a love affair.. not our fault JV bandwagoners avoid a debate like the plague. The guy said that Nylander was an injury risk although he's only suffered one major injury. If we want to apply the same parameters to everyone then Virtanen is an injury risk too. As of TODAY, a debate between Virtanen and his closest draftees is warranted, especially when the other two have done better so far professionally. Thinking that Virtanen will become an elite power forward and that the other two will round off as perimeter players is PURE speculation and has absolutely no bearing on today's discussion.

First of all it's to. Secondly, as I said, I get that you rate Jake but the comparison is nothing to *laugh* at when the other is doing better. Calling the other blind when the comparison is valid only makes you look like a homer.
-
I get that you rate Virtanen but you can't scoff/ laugh at "blind" fans when they compare him to Nylander or Ehlers. One of them has 32 points in 37 games in the AHL and the other has 18 points so far in the NHL. What's your justification for calling these fans blind? Homerism.

Says the guy that said that upside=readiness and that Gaunce was "more of a bottom 6 only" despite only playing 2 games in the NHL. You using rational is hypocritical to say the least.
-
Says who? You? I sure haven't heard that from the head honchos. Who said this was a conspiracy? It's clear that Jake and McCann were kept with the main team because JB and WD thought that they'd develop more with the big boys than in the juniors. Gaunce, being in the AHL, was in a not-so-urgent situation. You seem to derive a lot of things from nothing.
-
Wasn't ignoring what you said, just pointing out the one major flaw in your argument. I repeat, upside does not equal readiness. Jake, IMO, is not as ready for the NHL as Gaunce is simply because he hasn't gone through the motions of adequately developing a pro game that Gaunce has gone through. This is heavily apparent in Jake's huge learning curve so far this season. His inclusion in the Canucks was more because JB didn't want him in juniors than anything else. In that sense, Gaunce would probably do more and would be more responsible in his zone than Jake, given his development process. Gaunce's first game was a point, it wasn't a premise. There's a difference.
-
There's a huge (and I mean HUGE) difference between upside and NHL readiness. Sure Jake has more upside than Gaunce but that doesn't mean he's more ready NOW. Obviously, the main reason JB kept Jake with the team was because he felt he'd develop faster in the NHL. This does not = higher productivity than a more NHL ready prospect. And yeah, McCann is doing something in the NHL but it'd be a stretch to generalize Jake's two good games and five points into that same premise.
-
Jared and Jake probably have a higher ceiling than Gaunce but that doesn't mean that they're more refined. It's just ironic to use the word "rush" because that term actually applies way more to Jared and Jake than to Gaunce. Gaunce has showed all the progress we'd wish we'd see in him over the past couple years. Theoretically, he may be ready to make a bigger impact in the NHL than the other two if given a chance. Heck, didn't he score a goal in his first game?
-
I don't understand the thought that we'd "rush" Gaunce when McCann and Virtanen were practically rushed themselves.
-
When the skeptics don't say anything we're "just staying quiet" because we're haters. When the skeptics commend him, you start with the exaggerations. lose-lose.
-
Chill? I commended him while saying that he's still not out of the clear... Are you his mom or something?
-
He's been playing well for the past two games (technically only the first period of the last game but I'll still give it to him). Only thing that's left is for him is to be consistent. I hope that he proves me wrong but he's still not out of the clear.
-
Mentally and physically in the context of how they play the game, Jake is more similar to Booth but people "don't wanna hear it" because that comparison doesn't give them a boner. Doan would be best case scenario. He's a franchise player for the 'Yotes.

I got the point, just wanted to point out that it goes both ways. lolwut. No you didn't. tyhee put it perfectly. But hell, if you approve of the Ostrich method of critiquing players then all the power to you.
-
.... and if opinions are harsh enough, people are labeled as a-holes, uninformed, impatient, clueless, etc. so spare me the victimization. Goes both ways, who woulda thunk!
