  1. Likewise with Carter. I just think CDC is once again elating a prospect and comparing him to the best case scenario possible (ie. Horvat and Bergeron) while at the same time turning their heads to other, just as likely (if not more likely), comparisons. We've all seen Booth play and most of us have seen JV play (whether it be in the WHL or in the junior championships). Most of us agree that they play similar. Yet, of course CDC will completely avoid that comparison and opt for the Carter comparison. It's logical to want and expect your own prospects to be better than they otherwise could be (not saying that Carter isn't likely, just saying that I think that a Booth result is more likely).
  2. A decent-sized forward who can skate, likes to snipe, can throw the body, and has been criticized of sketchy defending and dry scoring spurts? That's Booth to me. If y'all are reaching to compare him to Carter, it's also appropriate to relate him to the not-so-attractive option.
  3. This is exactly why I can't for the life of me understand why people are saying he's gonna be a Canuck next season. He's quite a ways away... and that's not a bad thing, he just needs time to develop like most other prospects.
  4. JV isn't even playing that great this year in junior. I wish people would stop slotting him into the Canucks line-up next year or even make comparisons like these...
  5. Virtanen was never going to be a regular next season with the main team... Just because he's fast and can hit doesn't make him NHL ready...
  6. Enough with the trolling please! The answer's been given close to a dozen times already.
  7. The Horvat stats were there but the fact was that we traded a young goaltender who was in the better (if not best) tandems in the NHL for a promising though totally unproven OHL player. Things are always the same around here though. There will always be people who'll say they "called it" even though they were doubting the move at first like the rest of us.
  8. Uhhh, let's be honest... no it didn't. The whole board was freaking out at the fact that we traded a semi-proven, young goaltender for a totally unproven prospect (and rightfully so). As of now it does look like a good deal though but I guess hindsight is always 20/20..
  9. I know he's not available for the AHL. He's simply not going to go straight from the WHL to the NHL. He hasn't shown the consistency and skill level to make that kind of jump. I'd say that it'll be a good 2-4 years before we see him have a shot at the Canucks roster. lol you don't make the NHL just because you're big, even under a size-driven GM like Benning.
  10. Whenever Jake makes the jump into the big leagues, he's going to have to adjust to the role that he's going to receive (see Horvat). If there's one thing we learned in the WJCs is that he's not ready to be slotted into the bottom six role, at least not now (because lets face it, he's not gonna break into the Canucks top six in his first year). I understand that it's a habit of CDC to want our flavour-of-the-year prospects to break into the first team but Jake will most likely go the AHL way... and there's nothing wrong with that, Utica will teach him many things.
  11. I know I'm in the minority but I do think Kesler has a good amount of hockey IQ. Of course, his vision leaves a lot to be desired but the guy knows how to play and is one of the best 2-way centres in the league. Many forwards just think about attacking. IMO, it takes a little extra something to be able to acknowledge when to attack and defend appropriately, something Kesler is well known for. Forwards who play the 200 foot game are smarter than the 100 footers IMO. They acknowledge the responsibilities they have at both ends of the ice. If only Virtanen could one day play like that...
  12. I feel like Virtanen has more physical traits but Kesler leaves him in the dust when it comes to IQ, which is really what sets the top players apart from the rest.
  13. This is one of the most misleading conclusions on CDC. The Canucks could have very well won the cup with the Sedins leading the line. The Hawks are an example of a team not being the biggest but still winning the cup. Heck they got more than one to show for it. Opting for the "big" prototype is not a bad way to go and it's definitely not the only one. To act like it's go big or go home is misleading.
  14. Booth was a very good shooter before it all started to go downhill. I agree that his passing has never been the best. It's okay though, as is Virtanen's.
  15. Hats off the Demko. Guy played exceptional.
  16. His play is very similar to Booth, I don't understand why CDC avoids that comparison like the plague. It doesn't mean that he'll turn out like him, just that his way of playing is similar. Instead, CDC opts for the Carter comparison which is far less viable.
  17. A goalie who is having trouble communicating with his defender should shoot it around the boards instead of letting it drift away into the possession of a Finland player while he's out of position. Of course, this is something he's going to improve on as he develops. Technical things like this are easier to correct. What I'm more concerned about is how easily he drifts out of position. That one play in overtime where he got saved by his defenseman was pretty brutal. Demko was nowhere to be found.
  18. lolwut. The goal doesn't happen if Demko doesn't awkwardly handle the puck. He played well, really well actually. But come on.
  19. Glad I'm not the only one that thinks this. And to think that half of CDC wanted this guy.
  20. Wannabe mods should also get infracted. 'Tis only fair
  21. I'm also excited about Bo's recent success but over exaggerate much?
  22. Exactly. And this big, bad, tough identity wasn't the one that took us to the SCFs, gave us those presidents trophies, gave us that super long winning streak in the regular season I vaguely remember, and most importantly, gave us what probably was the best Canuck team in history. Moreover, this gritty identity you all want isn't a guarantee that we'll ever win a Stanley Cup. It's just another moving target you all want to chase. So stop talking about building an identity. It's hypocritical to say that. We already had one until you all decided to chase after another shiny objective. Linden went for the GM who valued big and tough teams. We'll see how this pans out but I thought that up until last year, we were doing just fine success-wise. And for the record, our 2011 team would have beaten this Kings team you all are so obsessed about in a 7 game series.
  23. He's skilled but his skill isn't anything to write home about, Every player needs some skill to be taken in the first and second rounds, however that is not the aspect of his game that could be considered his 'strong' side. Cue a poster posting a highlight reel vid of flashes of skill. It's simply not his forte, especially at the position he was taken at... And that is not to say that he won't succeed. Like other posters said, he has size and a good shot but don't go propping up his skill when that's not where he excels at.
  24. And you don't think that they're better because, you know, they simply have better players? Crazy idea, I know.
