RIP - CBJ goalie Matiss Kivlenieks
Bure_Pavel replied to AriGold's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Very sad, especially for his family and friends. "fireworks mortar blast, chest trauma" sounds like a terrible way to go as well. -
Canucks are in a really good spot at 9, and should be able to get a premier prospect. Hoping one of the top six below fall into our lap. 1. Power 2. Beniers 3. Eklund 4. Clarke 5. Hughes 6. Johnson 7. McTavish 8. Edvinsson 9. Guenther 10. Wallstedt
-
Probably an unpopular opinion here but I think they should package Rathbone for Cal Foote from Tampa. Organizationally a better fit and Tampa in a tough spot with ED.

If he dont like it, he can gettt out.
-
If it is just based on offensive output then you would think Kent Johnson would be above Simon Robertsson. Just focusing on the offense of players is a terrible form of prospect ranking.
-
While I think Wallstedt is a great prospect, I dont think DobberProspects is a very reputable source. In their March Ranking they have Simon Robertsson ahead of Owen Powers.
-
Surprised he didnt get the standard 11 million aav

I complete agree Eklund is a lot closer to being NHL ready than he gets credit for. The SHL is a very good professional league and he did not look out of place at all this year. His high hockey IQ at both ends of the rink will make the transition way easier than some others.

I would argue Johnson isnt that far away, he already has a full year of college under his belt. If he takes a another big step next year, I could see him in the NHL in his draft +2 season, depending if he is playing center or wing. The transition from College to NHL has been effective for lots of player recently. I would personally like to take it slow and give Johnson a full two more years of development but depends if the team needs him for a playoff run.

Realistically 2 million x 1 year with NMC after expansion draft

He did mention Myers right after, as another guy who can skate the puck out. I dont think he classifies Myers in the same category as Hughes, Schmidt, and Rathbone though. -
Second round targets: Scott Morrow (D) Logan Mailloux (D) Samuel Helenius (C) Logan Stankoven (C/RW)

Must be nice, when someone takes a run at our small players:

I want to like Lysell, I just dont think he would be a good fit for our top 6. Come playoff time that is a pretty soft/small looking core. I trust our European scouts though.

(proposal) Sign Zach Bogosian

The Pairings next year imo should be: Schmidt - Myers Hughes - Hamonic Edler - ? Juolevi or Rathbone - ? I would be ok trading Rathbone in a package for a potential top 4 RD, maybe Cal Foote out of TB. (He was extra value being expansion exempt) -

Hamonic is probably the best we can afford for Hughes until that Luongo and Eriksson money is freed up. Bogo would be for 6/7th Dman who can match up against physical teams and PK. Believe me the money is worth it if we never have to see Chatfield play another game. -

Hughes, Edler, Juolevi, Rathbone, and Schmidt likely back next year and left handed. Savard would work but would cost probably 4+ million and coming off a pretty bad year. Was thinking more right handed cheap grizzled vet. -

I just dont think Gudbranson wants to come back here people were hatin' on him pretty hard at the end here. Schenn could have come back but chose elsewhere, and Jani would probably be too expensive. -

A cheap big physical right handed UFA Defensive Dman is exactly what we need for our bottom pair. The four best options I can see is Luke Schenn, Erik Gudbranson, Jani Hakanpaa, or Zack Bogosain. Two have already played for us, and Jani might have many suitors if unsigned. Bogosian just seems like the best bet. -

I figured 1.5 for the two year term, pretty low risk as I believe you can burry close to 1.5 million of cap if on taxi squad if that is still a thing moving forward. -

His last contract was 1 year for $1 million. -
Sign Zach Bogosian to a 2 year x 1.5 mil per season contract to be our 3rd pair RD. Shutdown physical D, played 20 games in the playoffs two years ago for the Bolts when they won the Cup. Going to blame his lack of playoff success this year on the garbage organization he played for.

Id personally prefer Johnson but good with either both have game breaking skills. Id maybe choose the one that interviews the best we cant afford another Virtanen or someone who thinks they are above the team. Great character guys like Boeser and Horvat have worked out well for us.
-
Id say maybe 50-50 there are some good players in the top 9. If McTavish and Wallstedt are gone, then we get a choice of Johnson and Guenther which is fine by me.
