To further your point: Chiasson: 56GP 9G 7A 16PTS 20PIM -2, $750,000 AAV Gadjovich: 41GP 1G 2A 3PTS, 69PIM -9 $783,333 AAV I know who I would rather have on my roster on any given night (Chiasson). Don't understand the hate for players like Chiasson. Guy gives an honest effort, stands in front of the net on the PP when called upon, doesn't say two words to the media, can play up and down the lineup, and has size. At league minimum, he is welcomed on my team any day of the week, twice on Sundays. If Loui E r i k s s on had Chiasson's numbers and cap hit, I would have built a shrine for him (but he'll go down as one of my top three most disliked players in Canucks history).

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Spencer Martin
bigbadcanucks replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Pretty tame stuff. Gonna have to do a whole lot more to be considered an a-hole in my books. Great signing. I thought the league minimum was the ELC max for some reason. Glad I'm wrong. Thought Martin would sign for about $1.1M to $1.25M, but again, for cap savings, glad I'm wrong again. IMHO, Martin is now the official incumbent back up to Demko. His job to lose. Canucks could conceivably have $5.0M (Demko), plus $1.9M (Holtby), plus $1.25M, possibly $1.5M (Halak) and $762,500 (Martin) for a grand total of nearly $9.0M tied up in goalies for 2022-23, which is about a $1.0M reprieve from what it was this season. Thank the good lord that Demko is on a team friendly contract. -
Seeing how it's not my money, I would love to see Spencer Martin signed to a one-way two year deal at $1.125M cap hit. This way, if for whatever reason he doesn't work out, he can be sent to minors and there would be no cap implications. IMHO, he's earned the shot at being the incumbent back up goalie for next season or two and gives DiPietro and Silovs the opportunity to hone their craft in the AHL and positioned one of the two to take over the back up role in 2024-2025.

Just want to know you guys' opinion about Canucks identity
bigbadcanucks replied to tan's topic in Canucks Talk
Team identity that I would love...a team that plays like a pack of angry and hungry wolves that are ALWAYS on the hunt for a kill and never satisfied with what they've captured. This means smart, strong, aggressive, quick, agile, mean and always searching out its next prey. Want a bunch of players who is willing to impose its will on its opponents, rather than always reacting to what the opponent brings to the ice surface. Very tired of a pack of poodles that this team has been for most of its 50+ years. -
Anyone else finding it hard to get excited for next year?
bigbadcanucks replied to Canuckfanforlife82's topic in Canucks Talk
I'm a sucker...I buy the HOPE that the Canucks sell every off season and end up with a heaping pile of disappointment by April. Wash, rinse, repeat. The story of being a Canucks fan. -

The Cancuks need their core "elite" offensive players to play and produce like elite players. When your top players give you ONLY the following -- Pettersson 0.72 ppg; Boeser 0.6 ppg; Horvat 0.69 ppg; Garland 0.55 ppg -- it's going to be an uphill battle. Until the top six can compete at a higher level and produce with more consistency, this team is going to be stuck in mediocrity. I've said it many time...the core group, as it is, has to be waaaaay better. If not, it's time to unload and reload. I saw somewhere on CDC how we should be celebrating the achievements of Hughes as he zeros in on Doug Lidster's single season point record for a d-man. It's Doug Frickin' Lidster that he's chasing. The Canucks have been mired in 50+ years of mediocrity, with a few short bursts of fan excitement. IMHO, the only elite players the Canucks have are Demko and arguably Hughes and Miller. The rest is mired in the on-going standards of mediocrity that all of us Canucks fans have come to accept. I can't wait for Rutherford and Allvin to clean up this mess and bring in a new culture of high standards. I said the exact same when Benning got hired...the same when Gillis came on board...etc. -
This makes me very sad. Makes me realize how fast life moves by you. I grew up watching the Habs dynasty followed by the Islander dynasty. Mike Bossy...Clark Gillies. Two giants of the NHL to be lost and lost already. I loved the way the Islander team was constructed. They could beat you with skill and beat you with their fists. They don't get the type of historical respect they deserve. Especially Mike Bossy. Just echoing @Elias Pettersson...Mike Bossy was the greatest goal scorer I've ever seen in my lifetime.

Not so much chatter about how "small" Michael Dipietro is lately...so much for the demise of Dipietro as a leading prospect within the Canucks organizational depth chart. Great to see Michael Dipietro having a solid string of games after a full season of inactivity (game-wise).

You took the bait from the continuous trolling of a crazy old furball who's famous for talking out of his @$$. I'm certain you know already, but I wouldn't heed a single word from the troll you quoted. All you're doing is feeding it. McDonough has given all indications that he's going to be signing with the Canucks when his senior season is over in the spring of 2023. Sounds like a thoughtful, intelligent, loyal young man who will do everything he can to give himself the best possible chance at succeeding as a pro within the Canucks organization.

Quinn Hughes watch...Coming after Lidster
bigbadcanucks replied to Kevin Biestra's topic in Canucks Talk
Bobby Hull was a great hockey player and hockey ambassador and the old Jets "Hot Line" of Hull, Hedberg, Nillson was something else. But he was a terrible person. He would talk against violence in hockey and routinely go home and beat his wife (Brett's mother). I went to Joey Cyr's Super Summer Hockey Camps in Winnipeg with Brett Hull as a kid (he was a fat, lazy, tubby kid, but even at the age of 11, he could pick the top corner of the net almost 200' away from his own goal line...I saw a few kids take a puck to their heads from Brett Hull, who thought it was funny launching bombs from his own goal line), so I got to see Bobby Hull out in public a few times. Always had time to sign autographs for little rink rats like me. -

That's really sad, isn't it? Most of the Canucks 50+ season history has been mapped out in mediocrity. But somehow, in spite of that, we all love the Canucks. Best hockey fans in the world. The only other fan base that comes close would be Winnipeg/Manitoba and their love for their Jets. Two long-suffering fanbases. At least we live in the best part of the world. Winnipeg...well the best thing that can be said about that city is leaving (which is what I did in the fall 1989). -

Sort of what I have been thinking. Historical standards for the Canucks aren't the highest. Hopefuly Quinn Hughes will start setting standards for future generations that are much higher than they are now. -
I agree with everything you've written. Hockey broadcasts are horrible. Only commentators I enjoy listening to are Bieksa, Friedman and Marek. Everyone else, I turn off or tune out. As far as Garrett is concerned, he rarely gets a national broadcast because he sucks. He repeats everything 3-4 times. Can't wait for him and all the others to go away.
-
Incorrect. He was traded to San Jose. Canucks didn't want anything to do with him after he got caught cheating on a term paper.
-
Prospects who are slow of feet, but can process the game quickly and play with quickness have a shot at the NHL. Someone like Patrick Maroon or Dustin Penner. Would you categorize Kunz as having this attribute? Thanks Sid. Appreciate your insights and comments. Always.

[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Minnesota Wild | Mar. 24, 2022

When did Putin join the Canucks? -
Am I reading this right? Jackson Kunz is 6'3" 220 lbs.? Liking the kid's size. Scouting report on his skating?

Did Umberger have a girlfriend/wife named Kelly as well? I thought the reason was because Umberger and his camp couldn't come to an agreement of sorts with Burkie? Something to do with bonuses? And the negotiations became confrontational and as beloved Burkie is, he never shied away from being bombastic in dealing with agents.

You know what's crazy? The highest taxed (income) jurisdictions also have the highest cost of living. It costs more to own a home in Metro Vancouver, Los Angeles and surrounding area, New York City (especially Westchester County where most of the Rangers players have homes and parts of Long Island), San Jose/Cupertino than say Miami, Tampa Bay, Dallas, Las Vegas. A couple years post 2008 financial meltdown brought on by subprime mortgage and real estate crash, my sister sold her 1,800 square foot townhouse in Cupertino and purchased a 6,000 square foot quasi mansion in a gated community in Madeira/Sloan Canyon area of Henderson, NV and had about half a schmill left over. The cost of living disparity in North America is off the charts.
-
Truth to that. Even a putz like me who doesn't make a fraction of what NHL players or any pro athletes make lived in Edgewater, New Jersey when I was working in New York City in the early 2000s. Additionally, as a non-resident it's better to have property in no state tax jurisdictions. I sold my place in Lake Tahoe and purchased a sprawling condo off the south end of Las Vegas Blvd. and the benefits from a financial perspective is huge. Only reason why I'm still living in White Rock is because my wife wants to live here and raise our son in Canada. And in the end, my wife always gets her way and Metro Vancouver is probably one of the top three places to live anywhere in the world.

Love the way Bo breezed past Makar on the ENG...if that had happened to Hughes, we'd have monkeys like Alflives talking about how Hughes can't play defence. Mixed feelings about the win over the Avs. Love the way the boys pulled on the same rope at the same time, but infuriates me that they can't do this more frequently, especially when they are capable of it. Gonna lean towards the former and enjoy the moment. Hate for Halak is a little less now. Just one game, but that is what it all starts with. If Halak can give the Canucks 4 more starts like he did vs. the Avs down the stretch and there are no passengers along for the ride, the Canucks just might have a legit shot at making the playoffs.

Dad got scammed for his SIN...
bigbadcanucks replied to VancouverHabitant's topic in Off-Topic General
Sounds like you're taking all the right steps @VancouverHabitant. Never have experienced what you and your father are going through, but letting the CRA, a trusted agency, know that your father's SIN has been compromised, sounds like the smart thing to do. It will be logged in your father's SIN file/account and there will be a permanent record for your father to reference in the future. Hope all works out for your pop. Glad that your father has you to watch out for him. And phuck cancer. And phuck those a$$hole scammers.
