  1. Feaster's final decision and the one making the "best player in the draft" comment, but it was Weisbrod who sold Feaster on Jankowski. Weisbrod's parting gift to the Flames. Us Canucks fans have all of 140 pounder Artyom Manukyan to wait on as one of Weisbrod's off the grid "brilliant" gifts. I'll be waiting with bated breath. Canucks should put in a claim for Jankowski and then make a play for Josh Ho-Sang, the self-proclaimed best player of his draft class (2014). Then the Canucks will have two late first rounders who were proclaimed to the best in their draft class in the system. EDIT: A Jankowski claim and Ho-Sang play probably won't be happening with JR/PA at the helm. May have happened with Benning/Weisbrod running the show.
  2. Wouldn't you know? Isn't Jost a "bustaroo" for only having a 0.3 PPG after being a 10th overall pick in 2016 in your books? I thought the Mighty Alf knew it all. Onto something more important than humoring a furry Alien. Wouldn't mind having swapped Dickison and Poolman for Sturm. Joe Sakic doing it right -- unloading a high draft pick after giving the player five years to prove himself and extracting a usable playoff type player. Hopefully any of the college/CHL/Euro UFAs JR/PA can signs this spring turns into a player like Nico Sturm.
  3. Garrett's an idiot, but not to the epic proportions of Bobby Taylor, the guy who got to play all of 45 minutes during the two years of Flyers Cup run. Taylor wasn't even good enough to carry Bernie Parent's jock. At least Garrett was in a fortuitous position to play in an All Star Game. I thought Bobby Taylor was dead of old age. He's so irrelevant he may as well be.
  4. Other than spotting opposing teams a couple of goals in the first, this same group of Canucks have shown some resiliency and fight, which wasn't visible under Benning and Green's watch. Though I do have to say, the slow starts are on the leadership group -- it's unbelievable to me that this Canucks team can be so flat coming out of the gate on more nights than not. It takes Boudreau blowing a gasket and Miller to vocalize the lazy first period efforts of this team to get them going. That's pathetic. Hate to blame any one player for this, but this one is on Horvat, as I believe it's the Captain's job to get the players in the room ready for action. Horvat would be better served and the team would be better served with Horvat as an Assistant. And his twice per season 10-15 game offensive slumps has got to be corrected.
  5. Hmmmmmm...sounds like Alex Edler. And there's the Paul Jerrard connection - ex Assistant Coach to Travis Green at Utica.
  6. Two good West Island boys going at it. Lecavalier laying the boots to Burrows...Burrows with the leg take down; the move that's as close to a tap out as there is.
  7. JB having a knack for "finding diamonds in the rough" is one of the most laughable comments I've heard. Lammikko is one of very few players that has turned out for Benning. Who else? Maybe Highmore, MacEwan, Stecher, Leivo, Rathbone. Boyd - someone he neglected to sign after last season. Benning's "knack" has yielded guys like Hawryluk, Graovac, Rafferty, Chatfield, Michaelis, Vey, Biega, Bartkowski, Etem, Skille, Chaput, Megna, Boucher, Larsen, Goldobin, Cramarossa, Molino, Shore, Gagner, Pouliot, Del Zotto, Leipsic, Burmistrov, Spooner, Clendening, Teves, Juolevi, Virtanen, Vesey, etc. Benning's knack for finding diamonds in the rough is about as bad as it gets. And no, first and second round picks don't count - first round is like tap ins for birdies and second round is like tap in for pars. And everyone knew Miller was a solid player. Lammikko may be one of the very few fine moments Benning left the Canucks with his pro scouting.
  8. Be that may, the best and most compelling hockey rivalry in the world right now, IMHO, is Canadian Women vs. USA Women. In fact the Women's Hockey Gold Medal Game was the only hockey worth watching at the Peking Olympics (yah, I know, Peking is now Beijing, but I've never had Beijing Duck before). None of the men's games were even worth watching. I would spend money to watch Women's Professional Hockey. I haven't paid for a Canucks game since the 2013-2014 season when I gave up my season ticket membership, which I had since the early 1990s (remember you could pay a little old Chinese lady $10 to park in her back yard near the Coliseum?). I vowed never to spend money for tix after the 2013 lockout. And plus, my wife wanted a house in White Rock back in 2013, so we sold our Yaletown condo to move the burbs. It's a pain in the ass to get to games from White Rock when we used to walk 15 minutes to Rogers Arena. I hope Vancouver gets a PWHPA franchise.
  9. I remember some guy here who was touting Dane Fox and Ronalds Kenins as the next big SUPERSTARS in the NHL. Glad that guy wasn't part of the Canucks scouting staff (or maybe he was). Really pulling for Arsheep Bains...I hope he has a strong finish to the season in Red Deer, signs a PTO to finish out the season in Abbotsford, shows well in the AHL playoffs, and comes to prospect and main camp in late summer and lights it up. Can never have enough prospects. Glad to finally see the Canucks giving opportunities for Western Hockey League players. Especially local kids.
  10. Cedric the Entertainer could very well be Cedric the Agitator. Gonna bet ARZ picks him up and lines him up with Antoine Roussel. You'll have the most agitating pair of Frenchmen since Pepe Lapew.
  11. Will save you the trouble of updating. Players on AHL deals excluded. https://www.eliteprospects.com/team/77/vancouver-canucks/in-the-system
  12. Thanks Captain Obvious. You've just made a statement that applies to EVERY single team/goalie in hockey and hockey history. Obviously, this obvious fact has been lost on you. The problem with the Canucks is that they have so many holes up front, if Demko doesn't stand on his head EVERY game he plays, everything is intensified. If you were remotely paying attention tonight and every other night, with an exception or two, you would recognize that Demko gives the Canucks a chance to win when he's in the line up. I doubt if you realize this or not, but the reason why Demko is extraordinarily relied upon to win games is because the rest of the team is lacking. Once the rest of the team comes to 80% of what Demko gives you consistently, this team will be a contender. Until then, it's a pretender. And that's coming from a diehard Canucks fan who loves this team.
  13. "If"...you know that sh!t isn't going to happen so just stop with this nonsense. And I think you're taking this whole "We're all Canucks" thing a little too literally. I haven't seen the Canucks use this slogan for the past couple of years. I think they retired it when the Sedins retired. Or when Burrows got traded. Can't remember. Must mean I'm not a true Canucks fan. Don't be treating me like George Costanza, my furry alien friend.
  14. Gudbrandson threw a few into Hathaway's mug for Hathaway's mother. That's probably why Hathaway spit at Guddy. Hathaway and any spitter is a POS in my books.
  15. Erik Gudbranson. You know, the guy that everyone ran out of town. Just like everyone wants to run Tyler Myers out of town. For whatever reason, Canucks fans clamor for big, physical d-men, and once one arrives, they can't run them out of town fast enough.
  16. Is it my imagination or is the collection of forwards on the Otters' powerplay the shortest group of kids assembled? Nice to see Lockhart in the greasy zone on the PP. Production numbers aren't even close as 19 year olds, but does Lockhart have the Garland-like chops?
  17. I would be shocked if Martin wasn't offered an extension. If I'm JR/PA, I would do 2 years at $1.25M AAV, one way contract, and give Martin the surety that the back up job is his to lose. Means Canucks will have $8.4M tied up in goaltending factoring in Holtby buy out and Halak's bonus, which is still too much to be tied up in goaltending, but since Demko is grossly underpaid, I suppose it's good allocation of cap for the goalie position. Thank goodness Luongo's cap recapture penalty is done after this season.
  18. Coaching, management and farming. It's in his DNA.
  19. Said this in another thread...the best comparable for Miller is Blake Wheeler. Both are big and durable, highly skilled, and leaders on their respective teams. Wheeler's offensive output peaked when he was 32/33 years old, but has maintained a 0.9 PPG over the past three seasons. IMO, Miller will age similarly to Wheeler, and maintain his high level of play and production for the next five to seven years. He's a special type of player who I expect will be as good if not better in his 30s as he was in his 20s. I really hope the Canucks can lock Miller down for 7 years and put an end to all the rumour nonsense. Hands down, he's the most valuable forward on the team. Miller's presence alone creates a trickle down effect for Pettersson and Horvat. Without him, Pettersson would have tougher matchups which would diminish his effectiveness. Miller has made Boeser and Pearson better. He drives the bus.
  20. IMHO, face off wins are important in the context of timing and circumstances. I don't think this needs any explanation. EDIT: @Taphouse Canuck - this is an interesting topic to discuss. I hope I didn't come across as diminishing my interest in the OP you posted. To draw an analogy, I think face offs are similar to big saves goalies make...I grew up in the Ken Dryden, Billy Smith, Grant Fuhr era. The Habs, while Dryden was their tender, were notoriously slow starters in the first period, but Dryden always made the early game saves, which allowed the Habs blow away their opponents as they got their game going at about the 10 minute mark of the first period. Battlin' Billy and Grant Fuhr never had the highest save percentage and the lowest GAA, but when their teams needed the big save, they provided it. Grant Fuhr, so much so, that Gretzky is on record to say that if he had to choose one goalie to play in a winner take all game, it would be Fuhr in between the pipes. Faceoffs are a lot like this...one of the Canucks weaknesses this season is the terrible win pct. while on the PK (I don't know the number, but the eye test infers they've been horrible). I'm going to guess if they won even 10% more PK draws, they wouldn't be PK bottom feeders.
  21. Hate to be so negative, but Dickison has taken over from E r i k s s o n as the player I would welcome a departure from the Canucks. Remember Dickison talking up a big story about how he thought he had more to give offensively, and how he likes to pride himself in being a hard guy to play against when he was first acquired by Benning? It's now all blah, blah, blah to me now. The guy's not even a legit NHL player, let alone a third line centreman that he was brought in to be. Another fine piece of pro scouting by Benning's crew. Dickison has more value as a buy out candidate. He'll cost the Canucks close to a million for 2022-23, 24-25 and 25-26 and $400K in 2023-24. His contract spot and the money saved is of more value than Dickison himself.
  22. Moscow - Dubai - Heathrow - Vancouver - Court House. Lazy Jake "The Ripper"'s itinerary.
  23. Me too. Injuries derailed Rodin, who I thought had a lot of promise - on both go-arounds with the Canucks (separated shoulder first time, and was it a high ankle on the second?). Hopefully Karlsson can remain healthy when he makes his play for a spot on the Canucks roster. Agreed. Karlsson looks to be a more rounded/complete player than Rodin was, so hopefully there are attributes to Karlsson's game that give him a better chance to compete for a roster spot. Rodin played in SHL as a 19 year old, with decent amount of success, which probably hastened his first attempt at the NHL, which he obviously was not prepared for. Since history shows Rodin sort of wasted two years of his hockey development with the Chicago Wolves while he was 21/22 years old, while Karlsson has had the benefit of developing in the SWE-1 and SHL at the same age, comparing the him to Karlsson, insofar as SHL success as 22 year olds is tough to do. All said, I hope Karlsson gets a good look and I'm happy for the success Rodin continues to have in Europe. He seemed like a likeable player/person while he was here. @VancouverHabitant - I wanted to respond to your post as well, but I'm too old and stupid to figure out how to do multiple quotes (I stumbled through adding JYD and eeeergh's quotes)...anyways, hopefully Karlsson gets signed and is given a good look at training camp this fall. Based on all the videos posted, Karlsson looks like a gamer. Right hand shot to boot...something that is lacking on the Canucks roster.
