  1. This is sort of what I'm thinking for Miller. As well, I see Miller at the 90 point mark for next season, and then following four seasons at 0.9 points (75 points) per season (in the Miller thread, I wrote that I see Miller having the type of longevity that Blake Wheeler has had for the Jets).
  2. I can see JT Miller signing a Blake Wheeler type deal, pro-rated to 2022/2023 numbers (Wheeler signed a 5 year $8.25M AAV/cap hit in 2019 when he was 31/32 years old). Also see JT Miller having the same sort of longevity as Wheeler, making him valuable for the full duration of his contract. So, 5 years at $9.0M cap hit per season is what I could see for Miller. Doesn't leave a lot of room for guys like Boeser and quite possibly Horvat. Could a top six made up of: Miller, Pettersson, Podkolzin, Hoglander, Garland, and Horvat provide you with enough to be a cup contender in two to three years?
  3. Do people honestly give a rats @$$ about Jake Virtanen still? He's irrelevant as a hockey player and even moreso as a human being.
  4. Sort of the chatter that took place about Anton Rodin...though Karlsson could very well have the same level of jump from the SHL to NHL that Hoglander had. That would be a big win for the Canucks.
  5. As much promise as McDonough has, it will be a stretch to expect him to make the Canucks roster if/when he signs. The hockey world is littered with NCAA stars (including Hobey Baker winners) who never amounted to much in the professional ranks. In spite of these players being longshots being effective NHLers/AHLers, I am all for signing and developing college draft picks and UFAs as a viable way of building prospect pool/organizational depth. Every once in awhile, an NHL team will hit on a gem like Chris Tanev. For every Tanev, you have a dozen Matt Gilroys...for every Curtis Joseph, you have a dozen Matt O'Connors...etc. So, no, I don't have any grand illusions that McDonough will come in and set the NHL or the AHL on fire right out of college. And I'm gonna bet that that is the consensus among the CDCers.
  6. PK Subban couldn't carry Bieksa's jock as a hockey analyst. In their prime Subban > Bieksa as hockey players. As broadcasters, Subban <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<Bieksa. Not even close.
  7. Could see Vegas being a good landing spot for Subban, but not sure how Vegas would make it work with their cap. But no to Subban coming to Vancouver, please. Is too much of a "look at me" type of player for my liking. Liked him for a short while when he was bouncing Marchand around, but have disliked him since he stepped in and stole all of Jordan's thunder on Jordan's draft day, and had to make himself be the show. As Canucks fans, we had to watch the mouthpiece steal whatever bit of draft day glory that should have been reserved entirely for Jordan. As well, he had to make himself the star when he donated part of his big signing to the Children's Hospital in Montreal...he couldn't do it in the quiet, classy way like the Sedins tried. At least he was able to back up his big mouth when he was a Hab and a Pred, but not so much anymore.
  8. Sad day for Dekeyser...Wings moving him to make room for Juolevi? On his birthday to boot.
  9. Demko is way too classy to do this, but if it were me, I would have said, "listen you irrelevant POS wife beating criminal, you mean serious, like this?" and shown him the following three videos:
  10. For a team that has, for all intents and purposes, a losing history, it still surprises me the amount of fan support the Canucks have. Especially in a market where there are so many other things to be crazy about. It speaks of the depth and breadth of the passion hockey fans have for the Canucks. If ever there is a fan base that deserves the Stanley Cup, it is us long suffering Canucks fans.
  11. Geez, finally someone who thinks Garrett is as big a buffoon as I do (though I think you might despise him more than I do, which is a ton). I have no idea why the goofy bugger gets so much love on CDC. Like I said in the first post, I can't wait for the day that someone takes him out to the back of the barn and puts us out of our misery. bigbadcanucks is an aspirational handle. Something I have always hoped for for the Canucks.
  12. Garrett is hands down one of the worst color commentators in the history of hockey. When was the last time you heard anything insightful from the guy called Cheech? He's a homer, which is fine but I'll always put on another feed if available so I can hear some intelligent color commentary. Doesn't the constant repeating of himself bother you? Must be me. Garrett couldn't carry Larscheid's jock.
  13. How's about Russia keeps Virtanen and Boucher and US can keep Ovechkin? LMAO if Virtanen is denied re-entry back to Canada.
  14. You don't hear that sort of objectivity from the washed up John Garrett. What you would hear is how wronged the Canucks were, and because he's senile, you would hear it twice, maybe three or four times. Never heard a commentator/analyst repeat himself with so much dribble as often as Garrett. Someone please take him to the back of the barn and put us out of our misery. His claim to fame: number of chicken wings and hot dogs he can eat. Great accomplishment. And he was a sieve when he played.
  15. J-Pat is a goof. Tries to come off as an objective observer but comes off as a douche (am I allowed to use that word on cdc?). Can't top comeback wins. Missed both Hogz and Podz goals coz I was changing my 2 months old son's diapers. He poops like a monster. Got to put a tv in my son's bathroom where we have his change station...or talk my wife into letting me move the change station to our family room. Nice win for the Canucks.
  16. Hoglander needs to simply go back to number 36. The stench of underperformance that has been left over from the previous player wearing it is weighing Hogs down. Seriously, Hoglander is going to be fine. He's still finding his game. Still has some things he needs to work on (like not blowing out of the d-zone when the team is clearly hemmed in) and needs a little puck luck. Kid works hard and plays with passion. Boudreau has probably figured out that Hoglander is the type of player who needs a little tough love. And for those who think he's out of favour with Boudreau, here's another perspective: Boudreau cares enough about Hoglander that he's willing to be on his case to make him a better player. In my mind's eye, if Hogs was not one of Bruce's favorite guys, we probably would hear peep about what Bruce thought about him, and simply throw him up in the press box or send him to the minors. The fact that Bruce is on public record about the things Hogs has to get better at tells me that he cares about the kid. Now, I'm just waiting for that Swedish Meatball poster to post how unfairly Hogs is being treated by Boudreau. May even hear the Meatball say something like Hogs is having a tough time because Boudreau is bullying him.
  17. Sorry in advance, if my post sounds like I'm belly-achin'. The Sheldons are the modern versions of Wacey Hamilton and Carter Bancks and Cal O'Reilly. Really good AHL players with very little chance of becoming legit NHLers. Personally, I'd rather see the Johnny Canucks lose and have the ice time given to players the team have drafted and/or are developing. Granted, the current version of the Johnny Canucks don't have many players in the development stage (i.e., Klimovich, Lockwood, Plasek, Focht, Woo, Rathbone, Juulsen, Brisebois), but when the time comes when players selected in the amateur draft beyond the first couple of rounds are actually good picks (other than Rathbone and Lockwood) rather than throw-away picks, I guess the two Sheldon's and fringe NHLers like Petan, DiGiuseppe, Dowling, Bailey and others who are aging out will have to fill out the roster and get the lion's share of the ice time.
  18. Though speed is important, quickness is what I believe defines the pace at which a team plays. Speed is important for creating space on the offensive side of the game and closing space on defensive side of the game and is something that every team needs. Sedins weren't fast, but they were quick and could make plays in a phone booth. The St. Louis Blues, Washington Capitals Stanley Cup champ teams had decent speed, but they played the game with quickness that couldn't be matched. When the Canucks PP is on fire, it's usually because they are quick at moving the puck and finding the open man. I find the Canucks over the past ten seasons have played without any quickness or purposeful urgency. I really believe this is a mind set, and starts in practice. For all the bravado of how hard Green worked the players at training camp and practice, they didn't play with any quickness and seemed to run out of gas (especially at the end of each period). The Canucks under Boudreau still seem slow (in the sense of not playing quickly, not straight away/sideways speed), but I believe it's because he and Shaw are trying to implement new systems which is taking time for the players to process to the point it becomes instinctive. My sense is that once every player stops taking a split second to think about Boudreau's system, they will start playing with a lot more quickness. 3-4 more big players who can process the game quickly and getting rid of or developing the guys who can't think fast enough will do wonders. And a leader like Crosby/MacKinnon who forces the pace and drags everyone to that level is what this team desperately needs in its leadership core. I don't think such a player exists on the Canucks at this time.
  19. Of course...hockey is a team game. You win as a team, you lose as a team. That's my best Captain Obvious impression for the day. Out.
  20. Yup...rubber necking through another car crash scene. Paint me with the stupid brush for taking the bait on these moronic trade proposals.
  21. That's easy... 2020-2021- L o u i E r i k s s o n 2018-2019- L o u i E r i k s s o n 2017-2018- L o u i E r i k s s o n 2016-2017- L o u i E r i k s s o n 2015-2016- Radim Vrbata / Willie Desjardins
  22. The problem with the Canucks go much deeper and wider than Halak. The only thing one can say about Halak is that he ain't no Demko. Unlike Demko, Halak is incapable of making the saves when the Canucks players in front of him are playing like a bunch of tuned out passengers on a train to nowhere. I've said it before and I'll say it again. There are too many pretenders and fakers on this team. Their inability to be prepared every game is shocking to me. Give Jersey credit, but when you offer up tons of ice and can't defend and have a goalie who can't keep the puck out of the net, the outcome is inevitable. Can't wait for JR/PA to clean house and start bringing in guys who have the intestinal fortitude to show up every single game and have the ability to take the game to the opposition instead of having the opposition take the game to the Canucks. It's coming.
