  1. I saw Bobby Orr dominate the 1976 Canada Cup like I've never seen anyone dominate a tournament, including Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux in the 1987 Canada Cup. All the while playing on two bad legs. It's a shame that Bobby Orr didn't play during a period orthopedic surgeons perfected arthroscopic knee surgeries. He probably would have been able to play another 10 years and without the pain he probably played with his whole career. I was a kid in the 1970s, and I remember just how great Orr was, and just how tough he was. There has never been another defenceman like him ever. He never looked right in the 26 games he played in a Blackhawks jersey over three seasons. I'll forever remember him as a Bruin. And pretty much every player owes him a debt of gratitude for the $6 million contract he signed with the 'hawks in 1976. He opened the doors to the "mega" contracts. One of my fondest memories as a young adult of 25 years old was doing a recreational skate at the Pacific Coliseum when Bobby Orr hosted his annual "Skate with the Stars" in 1990. I got a chance to meet Bobby Orr and he was without doubt, one of the nicest men I've ever met in my lifetime.
  2. IMO, he turns just fine. Hughes got caught on more than one occasion, but you don't hear Petey Boi talking about Quinn's inability to turn one direction or another. The Juolevi that I saw this season was similar to what N7Nucks saw. The kid played with poise and swagger that you would expect from a fifth overall pick. Like all rookies, I saw him struggling at times with the pace of the NHL at times. I've seen Quinn Hughes, Rasmus Dahlin and Miro Heiskanen struggle with the same. From what I've seen, Olli plays with his head on swivel, uses his teammates well, has a seeing eye-dog shot that gets through, makes a great first pass and defended pretty well for a first year NHL player. Give the kid a full half season and he'll be in the top 4 playing in ALL situations, including PP. I have no doubts he'll iron out the kinks in his game.
  3. Maple Leaf = Maple Leaves = Make Me Laffs Edit: should have scrolled down a little to see Ghostof1915 addressed this already. Sorry, Ghost.
  4. This guy, Blah Blah^^^^^...talking out of his @$$ again. Canucks have until August 2023 to sign McDonough. Nice signing on Plasek...been a long time since the Canucks have had any Czech/Slovak on the squad. Hopefully Plasek and Jasek will join the ranks of Vrbata, Demitra, Malik, Nedved, Slegr, Hlinka, Bubla as Canucks players.
  5. Like it. Like it a lot. Elk horns on the helmet, Elks logo patch on the top left corner of front of jersey, corporate sponsor patch on the top right corner of front of jersey, and double EE shoulder patches. Would be a good look. Mountain lions (cougars/pumas) prey on elk in the wild. Perfect. Surprised there hasn't been a big uproar among the politically correct crowd about the name "Blue Bombers" that glorify war planes dropping bombs on ground targets. Guessing that weapons of destruction hasn't quite hit the consciousness of the politically correct yet.
  6. Pressers should be optional. Media asking the dumbass questions all watched the matches...why do they need to ask the obvious questions that everyone knows the answers to and probe into what an athlete is thinking at any given point in time? Good on Naomi Osaka for telling the WTA/French Open Organizers/sponsors to go phuck themselves by withdrawing. Glad she's taking care of herself...I hope more athletes do what she did. As much as I enjoyed watching the Leafs and Oilers get knocked out, I honestly felt bad for McDavid, Marner, Campbell, etc. for having to answer the stupid questions the hockey media asks. And as much hate as Tortorella receives, his answers of "you saw the game. I'm not going to dissect it for you. You can figure it out yourself" is the exact way I would answer if asked the questions from the dumbass media. I loved it when Gillis implied Marjanovich was a fat glutton who couldn't control himself at the buffet table when Gillis was on the air with him.
  7. Agreed^^^^. I'm not a big fan of hockey analytics and fancy stats...aside from points you've raised in your post, great goaltending can foil the greatest set of books. Recent examples: Demko vs. Knights (Canucks were so badly outplayed, but almost won), Canucks of 2019-20 behind Marky's goaltending, and now Price vs. the Leafs. Sorry @oldnews...I know how much you love your in depth analysis and enjoy reading your interpretation of the analytics, but hockey is just too fluid of a game with too many uncontrolled variables that I think it's hard to apply quantitative data with any precision. I sure am happy the Leafs got knocked out. Felt a little bad for Marner, but I got over that real quick. Feel really bad for Campbell (sincerely).
  8. That's disappointing. I would have thought the Canucks brass would have been willing to give Ethan Keppen a longer look given how highly they spoke of him when he was drafted (though most of those comments were coming from Judd Bracken), and given that they drafted him with the stated purpose of getting some big players in the system to develop. Gonna bet that he ends up in the Wild system and plays his way onto their AHL team in the not to distant future. Wish Keppen well...he's had a tough couple of seasons.
  9. Broissoit doesn't need protection. He's a UFA. UFAs on your target list that I believe would be worth a hard run at: Hyman, Goodrow, Coleman. Others: Pacquette and bringing back Josh Leivo.
  10. This dude is the ultimate hockey geek. I love the guy!!! And the cats are a nice touch (even though I'm a dog guy).
  11. My prediction: Podkolzin will be lining up on the left side along Pettersson and Boeser. Horvat and Miller centering 2nd/3rd lines...and a Sutter signing on the cheap ($2.0M AAV maximum) for 4th line center. That will give the Canucks the depth they need down the middle. Acquiring wingers on short term deals will be more efficient and cost effective, IMO.
  12. Gonna one up you and state that Podkolzin will be the driver on his line from day 1 (not a player in a complimentary role).
  13. He's also the guy teams target with the forecheck. He's like a left handed Erik Gudbrandson.
  14. Sort of puts all the "arguing" going on here into perspective. Sorry for your loss, Philly. Hope you were able to have a celebration of your father's life with all your family in spite of the Covid restrictions.
  15. Hopefully I can put an end to this "argument", since the question was directed at me. I took Briggs' question as a question...no harm no foul. You're living up to your username...Bertuzzi the defender of teammates. Appreciate you. Peace to both you and Briggs. How about that Seth Jones guy, hey?
  16. Not at all...could you imagine Lemon and Cooper as Jerry and George?
  17. I lean a little bit to the right, so I would say it's CNN for me. Lemon and Cooper I can do without.
  18. This^^^^^is what I find wrong with Social Media. Doesn't matter what the facts are...everyone has become the judge and jury. This is an example of the Trump family stupidity on social media. Like most social media users, the Trump's make one pseudo good comment and in the same breath, wipes it out with a stupid comment. One step forward and two steps back.
  19. Agreed, but the same can be said for CNN, MSNBC, CBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, etc. Sensationalized news for the masses, with a leaning to either the left or right. Pick your poison.
  20. At the end of the day, whether anyone agrees with Jones' politics or not and how they feel about his views on COVID, etc., it comes down to whether a deal to make the Canucks better can be made or not. And as JimmyMcGill points out, Jones may have the Canucks on his NTC list. If a trade wipes out a good part of the Canucks current core/pipeline of prospects/etc., then it's also a hard no for me as well. However, there's no denying that Seth Jones is a top flight RHD who could help the Canucks out...but the price to pay for him would have to be right. Lastly, I wouldn't immediately say no to Seth Jones because of his tweets about his position on COVID or support for Trump. I don't agree with his POV about COVID being a hoax, but calling him out for having an opinion is a little harsh, don't you think, Dazzle? Isn't he allowed an opinion, however different it may be from ours?
  21. These things you mention are never known, but lots of opinions are formed and expressed based on individuals' own position on certain issues. I can only speak for myself...it's many years ago, but as a kid, I played on a few of AAA provincial championship teams. From the time we were 11 years old, there was probably 15% turnover of players from one year the next for 4-5 years. We essentially grew up together. I wouldn't say the room was divided, but we used to have fist fights with each other in the room, at practice, house parties, and even at team outings (our two goalies got into a fist fight while we were at one of those ice slides at the Quebec Winter Carnival one year). I remember that at times, there was some serious animosity between a few of the guys on teams I played for. All because we didn't agree with each other and as kids, we were too dumb to settle things with proper dialogue. In spite of this, when it came time to play, we came together and won more than we lost. So, having lived through what would now be called toxic dressing rooms and having success through these types of conditions, I really think championship teams can overcome "locker room cancers". I don't know why having and expressing a counter opinion, being outspoken, etc. is perceived so negatively. Not sure if this is more prevalent among the Canucks faithful or other fanbases. Personally, I like to hear as many different POVs, and I like athletes that take a stand on any particular issue, and would welcome these types of players onto the Canucks roster if they can help the team win, regardless of race, color, creed, political, social, religious views (this is not to say I condone deviant and criminal behavior -- i.e., misogynistic comments of a Leipsic, sexual misconduct actions (alleged) of a Virtanen, Kane, Doughty). IMO, those who have an immediate response and say no to players like Seth Jones without knowing the entire story is shutting themselves off to the possibility of making the team better. Same goes for a player like Tony DeAngelo (who's kangaroo court "rap" sheet is probably worse than Seth Jones --and that's not meant to imply Seth Jones has a kangaroo court rap sheet).
  22. The kid was born in Texas. Would you expect him to be anything other than a Republican? Because Seth Jones MIGHT be far right-wing or against Covid restrictions qualifies him as a potential problem in the locker room? Sounds like a whole lot of nothing to me. Jones is a bona-fide top 10% d-man in the NHL, and throw in the fact he's big, fast, right-handed, he might be the biggest fish to reel in this summer. If Benning can acquire him and retain him for the long-term, I say he pulls out all the stops to get him here. Far better option than OEL.
  23. Million times better than Donnie and Fat Guy at the buffet stuffing his face...or Donnie and the Plagiarist. With Dhali, Donnie is probably breathing a sigh of relief that he doesn't have to carry the goofball Moj and the clown Pratt.
  24. Rooster, Beagle, Sutter., Eriksson..players all on the back nine of their NHL careers by the time they landed in Vancouver. Despite being 26 yo, I would say Monahan fits into that category of players whose best days are in the rearview mirror. Getting Monahan now would be slightly better than extending Eriksson for 2 more years.
  25. With or without credence to the accusation, that's an overpayment for whoever is giving up the used pylons. Who needs a Tin Man, Lion and Scarecrow in a single package? Forgot this was the Sean Monahan thread...please; no to a player on the decline. He's used goods with past expiry date.
