If you're referring to McEneny, it's more like he's got an extra year playing against kids 1, 2, 3 years younger than him. I suppose the fact that he lost a whole season in his draft year is enough to think that this would qualify as his draft+2 year. The kid looked brutal in the Prospects games vs. other NHL hopefuls, so we'll see what he can do against better competition in the next season or two. Not holding much hope for McEneny, though it looks like he's filling out his frame. Like all prospects, we'd rather see that he's producing than not, so that's a good thing, but nothing to get excited about.

Except for all the suspensions Lindros would have been serving for the dirty head shots he dished out...suppose you forgot about the head shot and follow through on the glass Lindros laid on Dackell. Selective memory.

Troy Ward...fired as of this afternoon. Source: TSN1040 (Taylor and Moj). Heard it on the drive home today.

Burr has four minors so far...one vs. Caps was a reputation call that he didn't deserve IMO...the one against the Lightning was a dumb@$$ penalty that hurt the team's momentum...the other two I can't remember, so I'm thinking they were inconsequential. To Burr's defence, he played great in the Lightning game, except for the selfish retaliation penalty he took. If Burr can sustain this kind of play until the trade deadline, he'll have great value if the Canucks find themselves to be sellers at that time. If the Canucks are in the hunt, then we'll have a battle tested vet...an Alex Burrows playing well is great for the Canucks on all accounts.

Boucher's lasting legacy...record will probably stand the test of time for a long while. How about the rest of Boucher's NHL stats? 16 years pro in North America, GP: 328 W: 120 L: 139 T: 30 OTL: 25 SO: 17. He looked liked someone who was going to be special, but ended up having a nice career as a back up goalie with a few years where he shared the starting role. Hope that's not what is in store for Markstrom.
-
Right...a 24 year old on a hot streak (as compared to a 29 year old on a streak) who may or may not break a shut out record is enough to say conclusively that the kid is going to be a future star or not? So what happens if Markstrom doesn't break the record as a 24 year old? He's not going to be a future star? That's some mystical logic. Sure hope that you're not forecasting anything of any real importance for the general public. Markstrom, in the context of his coach-ability, physical attributes, desire to improve his game, mindset, and performance are what gives him the shot at being a potential star...not whether he breaks a record at the young age of 24 or not. The streak is evidence that in the early stages of the new season, he's on the right track. Nothing more, nothing less.
-
And where is Brust now? KHL. Notwithstanding the impressive play of Markstrom and not to rain on the Markstrom parade, the season is young. If he plays at a 1.50GAA and 0.930SVP at X-Mas, then yah, we have a bonafide prospect who could very well reclaim his position as the best goalie in the world not playing in the NHL. For now, it's a story of a 24 year old on a sizzlin' hot streak. Does anyone remember Dany Sabourin? AHL goalie of the year...Lu's back up for a season...didn't amount to much in the NHL. Not saying Markstrom = Sabourin, but it's only been four games. Conversely, if Markstrom was playing badly and everyone was beating him up, I'd say the same (sort of like how there are those who are wringing their hands in angst with the tending of Miller and Lack so far this season).

Thanks for clarifying...it would be the latter. You have a good point about Horvat and Gaunce having a calm about them. And I suppose that's part of what makes up the leadership qualities about the two of them.
-
Agree with your analysis on Gaunce...he's a guy who will be able to give you 20+ minutes because he's such an efficient player and he'll be as fresh in the first minute of the game as he is in the 60th minute of the game because of it. Gaunce is faster/quicker than I remember him to be. The kid is a man-child and looks like a leader in the making. Just wish he had a mean streak in him.

Easily one of the coolest names in hockey. Ever.

After 243 pages, it's got to be tough to find Canucks players of yore...our man Steamer. Stan Smyl. EDIT: gotta love those wooden Sherwood PMP's. They were the only sticks I played with when I was playing...tried Montreal woods but went back to the PMPs...then used the Easton aluminum in the 90s when playing in a beer league. Never had a stick break at the shaft and we were firing pucks pretty hard (at least for our standards). Hate how easily the composites break now.
-
Looks like Rhino, but I was sure he wore 23 for the 'nucks...anyways, gonna guess Paul Reinhart.
-
Got our signals crossed...lefty to me is based on the hand that holds the stick (i.e., I always had though of Tony Esposito, Grant Fuhr as lefties). So, I believe the O-Pee-Chee hockey card with picture of Gradin with Rick Lanz nametag and info is a mistake.
-
Palmateer is correct...he was a lefty. Forgot about the "Popcorn Kid" moniker...thanks for taking me down memory lane.
-
Hint: From the hockey card, you can tell he's a lefty...wears no. 29...here's the hint: started his NHL career with the Leafs...had a spectacular 2-3 year run when the Leafs gave the Broad Street Bullies and an over matched Islanders team all they could handle. Initials: MP. Was one of favorite Leaf when I was a kid.

Vintage...this should go in your goalie thread...who's the goalie tending the nets for the Caps?

Patrick Sundstrom...the big uber-talented Swede.

Are you trying to transmit some coded message via the internet, Gstank? The "4", "9: and ":" is going to mess up the message.

Dennis Kearns...one of the best offensive d-men ever to lace it up for the Canucks.

Perhaps the question should be "should he or shouldn't he". IMO, if Virtanen isn't 100%, he shouldn't. No need to expose him to risk for a "junior/college" tournament. Same for Shinkaruk, Demko and any other prospect who isn't 100%.
