  1. Yah right. He was advocating for a re-build after the 2012 playoff debacle vs. the Kings which Aquilini refused. He did what every GM with a team in their cup window does -- that's add parts using draft picks and prospects as trade currency.
  2. I'll say this much about patience: Jim Rutherford is credible when he says he wants to take the decison-making step-by-step so as not to take a step back. Impatience is a killer. Current state of the team, and how things need to be undone is entirely due to the impatience of the last group that ran the hockey ops. Revisionist history: Linden was saying the same thing that Jim Rutherford is saying. Gillis was saying the same thing Jim Rutherford is saying. Guess it took a failed eight year experiment for Francesco Aquilini to realize he should have been listening to the smart guys in the room instead of the dumb one.
  3. You're quoting a classless POS. Sad sad day for the Canucks community, and so sorry for what Brock and his family are going through. Duke calling out the roster must have been such a special day for the Boeser family. The world loses another champion today.
  4. What a moment that must have been for the Boeser family. Sad day for the Canucks community, but nothing compared to the grief and sadness Brock and his family must be going through today. Love of and for family is universal...feeling the sorrow for the Boeser family. So sorry for the Boeser family's loss.
  5. If Hoglander was smart, which I think he is, he should re-invent himself to take Motte's role as 4th line LW. Take on this role, carve out an identity for himself and build his offensive game up slowly, but surely. This would beat playing in the AHL and becoming the next Cal O'Reily, Reid Boucher, Sheldon Dries, Sheldon Rempal, Andrew Ebbett, etc. I love the kid, but if his development trajectory does not change, it's more likely that he becomes a fringe NHL/star AHL player. Over the long term, I think Hoglander's got the chops to become a Samuel Pahlsson/Patric Horqvist hybrid type player if he can develop his defensive game. A player like that would be tremendously useful for the Canucks.
  6. How about the Derlago/Vaive trade to Toronto for Tiger/Butler? Nobody ever talks about that trade. Another trade that set the Canucks back on a long term basis (though Williams and Butler did contribute to the 1982 cup run of a sub-.500 team). Canucks have a long history of ridding themselves of players that they've failed to develop properly. And getting rid of Woo at this stage without giving him the tools to develop ("dumperoo" as some dumbass is saying) would be simply repeating what this team has done historically. You know who does that? Mediocre organizations, which the Canucks had become under Bennng's watch. It's time for the Canucks to be an elite organization.
  7. The who cares are my thoughts as well. In some magical world where a double elimination would occur, that would be awesome. I hate the Flames and Oilers equally. I hope nothing but monkey pox upon both franchises (except for Tanev and Marky...I still have some degree of likeness for them).
  8. Jeez...when did Markstrom become so bad at hockey? What I find sadly ironic is Soiler fans letting out a collective sigh of relief that Markstrom signed with the Shames instead of their Soilers a couple of summers ago. Thank the hockey gods that Benning had the intestinal fortitude to go with Demko. Only smart move Benning made in the past 24 months leading up to his firing (though I did say I would build a shrine for him for getting E riksson the hell out of Vancouver). Yup I did it. I turned this thread into another Benning is dummy thread.
  9. Can't dispute your commentary. Burr with his finger biting and hair pulling and Kesler with his diving was pretty damn embarrassing at times. But, they did provide a lot of entertainment. Torres with the crazy eyes. Forgot about that.
  10. Got a kick out of listening Randip Janda extol the virtues of Nazim Kadri on the drive home show today. This radio hack who probably has only seen ice in his glass and probably doesn't know how to tie laces on a pair of skates was on his soap box today pontificating about how the Blues have lost their composure because of Kadri running Billington and how Kadri is taking the high road on all the racist threats he's been receiving. Kadri is a douche and will always be a douche. His race has nothing to do with him being a douche. It sucks that people are attacking him based on his race, but he deserves to have his head smashed through the end boards. Blues are out, so someone should take a wild run at Kadri and put him out of commish for good. The NHL without players like Kadri, Matt Cooke, Brad Marchand is a much better place.
  11. And almost everyone wants the black skate jersey which is even darker than the Oilers dark navy blue. Demko's got better eyes, so I'm sure he'll be able to track the puck regardless of jersey color.
  12. This version of the Canucks isn't nearly as bad as their record under Green would indicate, and is not nearly as good as their record under Boudreau would indicate. The current version of the Canucks is a bubble playoff team, which makes them a group of pretenders at this point. IMO, for the current version of the Canucks to sneak into the playoffs as a wildcard team: Pettersson, Boeser and Horvat need to show up for all 82 regular season games; Dickison and Poolman need to be shipped out for a bag of pucks to create $5M of cap flexibility; Myers needs to keep his game simple (when he thinks he's the next coming of Larry Robinson, he stinks); Hoglander needs to learn how to play on both sides of the puck; each player not named Schenn, Miller, Hughes, Pettersson, Burroughs and Garland needs to play like they are 20 pounds heavier and 4 inches taller; Spencer Martin needs to start 25 to 30 games and give them a .500 record (and not be yanked with regularity to ensure Demko can get the rest he needs, unlike the sieve Halak); Special teams needs to be a whole lot better for the entire season; Demko needs to be Demko; and the obvious: a solid RHD (sorry, no disrespect to Luke Schenn) to play with Hughes (a Marc Methot to Erik Karlsson type player).
  13. I see where the problem lies. You think you know what the facts are, when if fact you don't. So you're entirely talking out of your ass. Canucks retain Karlsson's rights until June 1, 2022. Give it up.
  14. According this senile furball^^^every player who isn't promised an NHL roster spot and is allowed to burn a year off their ELC will sign with some other team as soon as their signing rights expire. Time to panic over Karlsson because apparently every unsigned prospect shares his lack of loyalty when it comes to signing their ELC.
  15. By etc., do you mean - Hamonic, Baertschi, Juolevi, Virtanen, E riksson? Demko over Markstrom is a win. Others in the etc. column - Clendening, Pouliot, Megna, Gagner, del Zotto, Spooner, just to name a few.
  16. Though I'm really pulling for the kid, it's more likely he gets about the same number of NHL games as Prab Rai. Robin Bawa scored 57G and 56A as a WHL overager...he got into 71 NHL career games during a period there was 24 NHL teams. Going to wager that Bains is going to play somewhere between 0 and 70 NHL games, after it's all said and done. So, totally agree that Bains is a long shot. But, here's hoping he gets into as many NHL games as Manny Malhotra.
  17. Just reading this now. Breaks my heart for Adam and his wife. My wife went through a real difficult pregnancy and thankfully she delivered a healthy (full term, albeit undersized) baby boy during the winter storm this past December. Even though the outcome of our life experience and the Gaudettes were different, I totally get the physical, mental and emotional pain and stress that Micaela Gaudette went through, and simply how important it was for Adam to be present, available and supportive for his wife. I chose early retirement so I could be with my wife 24/7, and it was the best decision I ever made. And I suppose if there is anything positive about the Gaudette's experience, it occurred during the off-season when he would have been available around the clock for his wife. Good on Micaela for sharing her experience and story. Tom Cruise be damned...the neo-natal, birthing, and post-partum mental/emotional/physical issues are real.
  18. Wonder how much the pair set Duck Dynasty back. Would love to see Bowness back in Vancouver...I remember watching him play as a slow as molasses RW for the Winnipeg Jets on what I believe is the worst NHL team ever (I think they won something like 9 games that season). Not the best player, but a great coach. EDIT: looked it up and turns out the Jets team Bowness played on was the 13th worst team on record.
  19. There's a lot to love about Tyler Motte. Very happy and not surprising to hear the praise he's getting from the NYR management. Still supportive of the trade but I am glad that Motter is getting the chance to play for the Lord Stanley's mug. Of all the past Canucks players still vying for the Stanley Cup, he's the guy I'm most pulling for. Would have loved to seen a fourth line with Motte on LW and Lockwood on RW...but Motte at a rumored/reported $2.5M+ cap hit would have been tough for the team to do. Having Motte and Lockwood on the fourth line together looks like part of a protypical Jim Rutherford constructed team.
  20. McDonough brings different attributes when compared to Gaudette and Madden - his size being the obvious. Faber also mentioned on his analysis that McDonough has a heavy shot that can blow through defenders (paraphrasing), whereas Gaudette, in spite of scoring lots of goals in college, has a shot that is good for college but lacking in the pros (again, paraphrasing). As well, Faber commented that McDonough is realizing his size and physicality, when applied consistently makes him a more effective player. Faber went onto say that McDonough went from 4 PIM to 44 PIM, so he added some truculence to his game last season (a good sign, IMO). Without knowing too much personally, it seems like McDonough's physical and talent set, coupled with what's between his ears and his efforts to improve and prepare himself for the upcoming season and inevitable pro career, sets him up to be successful.
  21. Know your facts before you spout your nonsense. 22/23 year olds are subject to a 2 year ELC. Whether he signed this spring or next, he would have two years of ELC. McDonough has been on record to reassure the Canucks organization and fans that he is SIGNING with the Canucks after his graduation. The kid is taking spring/summer courses to ensure he graduates next spring and feels a strong sense of loyalty to the Canucks based on the relationship he has built with Ryan Johnson and other Canucks staff (source: Chris Faber interview). Your "fear" that McDonough will sign elsewhere is reflective of your character or there lack of...classic case of displacement of one's own character onto others. Because you lack the quality of loyalty does not mean McDonough lacks this attribute. LMFAO.
  22. Does anyone give a rat's a$$ what Sekeres and Price have say about anything?
