PROPOSAL- UFA PAT MAROON
NorthWestNuck replied to garthsbutcher's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
If that is your 3rd line, prepare for a lottery pick. Would be a decent 4th line though, although Gaudette isn’t meant for that kind of role... -
I came here to ask this. I haven’t looked at stats or anything, more the eye test, but did anyone else think Benn looked much better once he was put in the right side? I thought he played pretty solid once he was moved to his off side... wondering if he could pull off the 3rd pairing right side along side Juolevi the way Schenn first did for Hughes?

Jake is not the cause of the headache. Fans cause their own headaches focusing on where he was drafted instead of what he is, which is a solid 3rd liner who can move up and produce in a pinch and is decent (not spectacular) in his own zone, can get in on the forecheck quickly, and one of the best on our team for drawing penalties. Virtanens problem may be that he sees his potential the way many fans do and overrates himself. If that’s the case and he’s looking for a big pay day, then cut him loose. But as an inconsistent scorer he was on pace for 20 playing mostly on the 3rd line. That’s worth a small boost in pay.

Identifying RHD Prospects to Acquire (Discussion)
NorthWestNuck replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
What about Jake Bean from Carolina? They have the depth on D he might be available... -
At what point does where a player get drafted stop being a reflection of his ability to play at the top level?? I get it, he may never achieve the level you might expect from a 6th overall (although in my opinion the jury is still out in his ceiling, but I digress) however, if you look at his ability currently he already IS an NHL caliber player. In my eyes he is a prototypical mid level winger much in the way Higgins (another first rounder who never quite lived up to the hype but carved out a significant nhl career) was for us in 2011. He can play as far up as first line and as far down as 4th and doesn’t hurt our lineup no matter where he’s placed. his defensive game, while not a strength, is better then a lot of people give him credit for. He also draws more penalties then most of the players on our team. (Usually top three players for penalties drawn on our team if memory serves me correct?). Virtanen has become a serviceable player, but his draft put unreal expectations on him that some fans will never let go of. just my two cents...

Honestly I think Jake slots in for the sort of the same reason he didn’t slot in after camp. At camp he wasn’t good enough. in the jets game, there were several forwards who weren’t good enough. McEwan and Ferland didn’t do what they were drawn in to do. Sutter wasn’t good either. Any one of them could be pulled after their performance. I think Ferland gets another chance, with Virtanen drawing in over Zack.

Canucks reveal new jerseys for 50th season
NorthWestNuck replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Johnny Canuck Jersey would be our version of the Islanders fisherman jerseys... Personally I like the skate and black and gold, but not off put by current wears... -
interesting read... https://canucksarmy.com/2020/06/13/the-nhl-slapped-jacob-markstroms-vezina-calibre-season-in-the-face-and-its-not-ok/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook

It’s line depth that wins championships. I’d like to see three scoring lines and a fourth that can take care of the defensive side. Miller - Pettersson - Virtanen Leivo/Ferland - Horvat - Boeser Pearson - Gaudette - Toffoli Ferland/Motte - Beagle - Sutter should be our forward lines. Virtanen has shown chemistry with that top line and looks up to Miller. Boeser and Horvat together again. And Pearson reuniting with Toffoli on the third. Wave after wave of attack.

(Proposal/Discussion) Value of Players
NorthWestNuck replied to NorthWestNuck's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Yeah, good points all. i was thinking more of a Demko AND Boeser to capitalize returns. Would that be worth a Parayko/Proverov? More (Heiskenan/Makar like)? or less (Healthy Ryan Murray type)? -
(Proposal/Discussion) Value of Players
NorthWestNuck posted a topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Start this off with a disclaimer, I’m not suggesting any trade here, more looking for people’s valuations of this scenario. talking with a couple friends about the value of a Trade sending Demko and Boeser for an elite young defenseman. More a hypothetical situation. what level of Dman do you think we could potentially get in return? Just looking for outside opinions... -
[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Ottawa Senators | Feb. 27, 2020
NorthWestNuck replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Couple things I picked up on: 1. I felt like Gaudette looked pretty good on the wing when he was tried with the second line. Anyone else notice this? 2. Sens like to seagull for breakaway passes. Seriously, three different times sens were hovering by our blue line for a long Bomb breakaway pass. 3. Miller when frustrated tries to do too much by himself. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s been playing amazing. Not Even saying he had a bad game. I’ve just noticed a couple times as the team falls behind or Is outplayed by opponents Miller will try to stick handle through the entire opposing team and cough up the puck. Doesn’t happen often, just thought it was interesting. -
Yeah, I didn’t figure that would be the whole deal. More just the starting point. Add G. Brisebois or another youngster, maybe a pick. Lol

Unlikely, but wondering if anyone thinks Domi could be picked up for Leivo and Roussel? I’d love to see our depth for the playoffs as: Miller-Petey-Virtanen Domi-Horvat-Boeser Pearson-Gaudette-Toffoli Motte-Beagle-Sutter That is incredible depth that could be cycled without fear, and could do a lot of damage in the next playoffs. anyway, early morning thread and just woke up so feel free to rip it apart.
