  1. Funny thing is I that Benn actually looked a lot more comfortable out there when he was playing his offside in the playoffs. I was (kind of) looking forward to seeing him there this season. But Hamonic would be better I think. my concern is that the third pairing ends up being Benn - Hamonic and the kids (OJ) end up missing out again...
  2. Bold take: canucks pick up Vatenan AND Hamonic on minimum cap hits once Ferlund is on LTIR. Schmidt - Hamonic Hughes - Myers Edler - Vatenan what?!? Lol
  3. Toronto Montreal Calgary Winnipeg Edmonton Vancouver Ottawa This is so hard to predict. I personally think the Canucks had overachieved last year and was expecting a year of regression before their surge the following year. And that was before division realignment. We don’t play well against other Canadian teams. That said, the best schedule we have possibly ever seen may be huge.
  4. The value isn’t terrible, but robbing an already short rw to add to a slightly deeper c doesn’t make sense in my opinion. Virtanen is going to slot into one of the top two rw slots because we don’t have anyone else who’s proven to be better. Losing him would be even worse.
  5. Good way to ensure no UFA would ever want to sign with us ever again. Bravo! Ugh.
  6. Vaccines actually should be out within the month I hear, although getting one could still be a while away depending on demand, etc. but still, by next fall things should be back to near normal...
  7. The more I see the retro jersey, the more I find myself liking them. Can’t wait to add one to my collection.
  8. So are Meier and Boeser still under the old rules? ie, 10 or 7.5 mil QO?
  9. It’s a decent deal, but it’s also heavily backloaded, meaning in three years he needs to be qualified at the final years salary of $7.2 mil. Similar how Boeser will have a high qualifying offer.
  10. One thing positive is that players in Europe have started to be recalled to come back to North America, presumably to begin quarantining. That could be taken as a good sign that perhaps something is starting to happen?
  11. How would I feel? I would recognize it as an attempt to make me feel welcome in the new locker room. I would also realize that I have no relationships with anyone in the room and that becoming a leader in a room with a group of guys who have no reason to follow me is foolish at best, arrogant at worst. Then I would decline the offer, knowing that if I were meant to be captain I’d earn the role eventually. and Linden wasn’t upset about Messier taking the C so much as surprised. I would also think it would make him question Messiers fit as a leader of this group, but that’s just me theorizing. It was more the fans that were angry. I have seen anything suggesting any of the players verbalizing dissent.
  12. Not going to go into all of it, but as far as the captain controversy it wasn’t “Media driven”. Linden himself acknowledged it, stating he offered the C to Messier as a gesture of goodwill and thought Messier would graciously decline. Everyone including Linden was shocked when Mess jumped at the opportunity.
  13. I understand that. But long term I don’t think he has a place on this team. If Benning and Green think he can develop into elite or at least solid two way Center that’s fine, but With Petey and Bo on the top two lines, the top two centres are set long term, so either Gaudette needs to become a top PKer, or moved for a top PKer in the same age range.
  14. I’m not so sure. No expansion AND no Covid/flat cap, then for sure. But considering the length/term combined with the clauses and I think that under the current financial bottleneck the league is under marky would have walked even without the looming ED.
  15. We let Markstrom walk BECAUSE we couldn’t afford the 6 mil. So why would we sign Holtby and Stetcher for the equivalent price that we already indicated we couldn’t afford? That makes no logical sense...
  16. How we likely start: Miller - Pettersson - Virtanen Pearson - Horvat - Boeser Roussel - Gaudette - Sutter Motte - Beagle - MacEwan Eriksson, Ferlund (LTR) How I’d like to Start: Miller - Pettersson - Virtanen Hoglander - Horvat - Boeser Pearson - Sutter - Eriksson Motte - Beagle - Hawrlyuk MacEwan, Ferlund (LTR), Roussel Move Gaudette for a young defensive Center prospect with PK1 upside to replace Sutter/Beagle in the near future. Costmar/Karlsson could change this but that’s my opinion for the present.
  17. Stetcher will not be missed on the ice. Benning could afford to wait because he knew that if Troy walked it wouldn’t be a big deal. He knows that we have a good young pool to draw from, and it was time to get a look at them anyway. Personally I don’t think MB was over anxious to re-sign Troy anyway. people always talk about how good our young players are, yet when finally they are given a real chance to make the team, fans would rather not give them that chance. Enjoy the ride, wish Stetcher luck in Detroit. His time in Van was always numbered and now it’s run out.
  18. I wouldn’t be surprised. Unless we pick up another Center in trade or UFA, Beagle and/or Sutter have a place on our roster. Gaudette may replace one (probably will), but that’s still one spot remaining. Does Michaelis take that spot? Unlikely. Costmar, Karlsson, etc are more then likely a few years away and not sure if any are defensive specialists that will work the PK. Things can and probably will change, but as it stands right now Beagle will probably have a chance to stick around.
  19. Absolutely. And I think it is a good plan. I just hope that Demko isn’t crucified if he doesn’t open the season with a GAA of less then 2.00 after his first couple games.
  20. It’s crazy how much hype is being put on TD after an insanely short (and admittedly insanely good) 3 game performance. I have a huge worry about the fan base if/when TD starts off the year with a mediocre couple of games. not necessarily saying he will, I am definitely pulling for a strong season from the young goalie, just noting that it’s almost unfair the expectations placed on him after an elite, yet tiny, hot streak.
  21. Miller - Pettersson - Virtanen Baertschi - Horvat - Boeser Pearson - Sutter - Hawrlyuk Motte - Beagle - MacEwan Roussel Hughes - Myers Edler - Schmidt Juolevi - Benn Brisebois, Rafferty Demko Holtby Erickson on waivers forgot Gaudette. Could put him third line and drop Hawrlyuk down, maybe try him on Horvat’s left side. There’s options...
  22. Forget the fact that the other GMs (you know the guys who know what it takes to be a GM) voted Benning the 6th best in the league at the moment, The signings at the time were still justified. Myself, I wasn’t a big fan of the Roussel or Ferland pick ups. But Beagle was and still is valuable to the team. Beagle and Sutter still have their place on this team. And with losing Tanev on the PK they will be even more important. Are they overpaid? Sure. Do they have a place on our roster? Also yes.
  23. I still think I’d like to see Jack on Utica’s first pairing with Woo developing some chemistry for when they both move up. We have several young defenders already pushing for a roster spot, JR can wait a year unless he absolutely blows the others away...
