That seems fair,

Spot on Alf.
-
He's not big enough, tough enough, fast enough or good enough to be on the Canucks train for where it's heading. One of JB's more face palm moments imo. He's a Higgins without the upside.
-
Agreed, he looks electric in the offensive zone.
-
I think the kids look pretty good now as opposed to mid season. However I am not a fan of Granlund, the game passed him by last night, and would rather see Zalewski in before him.
-
I would go along with that. I am disappointed with the play of the Sedins and Burr just now, particularly against the Oilers. For me, they are just becoming too slow to make an impact now. They want to keep playing the recycle game but it's old hat and leading to giveaways and worse still impotent PPs I am now at the stage where I don't think I would bother if next Season was their last. We need to have a faster skilled and grittier 1st line and the sooner the better.
-
Ok but don't give him the C. He is setting the wrong example imo. I'm sick of this team letting all the heavy lifting, when it come to push back, be done by one or two players. That's not how Boston do it, or LA or Anaheim or any number of top teams, why, because ultimately it lets you down. Lack of TEAM pushback leads to being cheap shotted and abused. When it comes to a scrimmage anyone in a Canucks jersey who has a pulse better be in there. That's what I think.
-
I have just quoted 2 on this team. Are you THAT determined to excuse him that you are claiming ignorance of the league now? Come on bud get real. He's 210lbs for goodness sake. HE DOESN'T GET INVOLVED.
-
Err I wasn't talking about his play. His play is fine, it's his refusal to get involved in protecting team mates or pushing back.
-
I'm watching the guy who gets himself to the outside of any scrimmage every game while guys like Jake, Jared, Hutton, Biega, Bart all make for the trouble spot. Wake up, open your eyes and stop ignoring the facts. That's not C material in my book.
-
Well it's in there somewhere because his brother was a real battler in the NHL. I don't think you have to fight but you do need to push back or the other guy rates you as a poosy. I really think our rookies should all get boxing coaching in the summer. I am much more concerned for Bo. The guy is in danger of making Henrik seem like a bruiser.

Communion brought me to this band. So infectious. I can't believe they are not better known.
-
The difference is Hammer won't call him a bust after 5 games.
-
Apart from our 1st what are we still left with? I don't think we have a 2nd.
-
Yes you are right about Kenins this year, he was poor. I thought you were making a this year last year comparison between Kenins and McCann - apologies. However I'm sure he was injured. Did he not go back to Utica and go on the injury list for a while. In McCanns favour, his effort has never diminished and he has had some decent games. It's all pretty exciting imo because it is obvious when you look at/listen to the media, our rookies are not rated - and yet we are beating teams with our teamwork, speed, skill, good interplay, transition and puck possession. I see a lot of that being down to the coach, especially if you are familiar with what he did in Med Hat.
-
Really? Kenins played great from the off until he was injured. Jake was in danger of landing back in the juniors until after the WJC. Vey has outperformed McCann in every facet of the game, so to say McCann is better is BS imo. Sutter never got far enough into the season to outperform Bonino because Bonino had a great start but tailed away. I do think Sutter will be better for us though.
-
What is your evidence of that Alf? I don't see it on the ice. Can you site an example I can look at? I think he is still probably one of the quickest in the team.
-
Burr is as good a "player" as he ever was, his only problem is hitting the back of the net. If he does, threads like this will be completely redundant. I know you put a lot of stock in what Willie says, so maybe you need to catch his post game interview after the Preds game.
-
Why do you say that? We didn't judge any of the other rookies in the team on 5 games. He is going to have his confidence and his minutes built up gradually by the coach, just like the other rookies and surely he deserves no less. Jake had a big question mark over him until he came back from the World Juniors, how many games was that? Baertschi was ineffectual until he was at least 10 games into the season. McCann was and is still bedding in. Gaunce is not a flashy player, he is a thoughtful, intelligent player and that type of player imo usually take time to get chemistry with his line mates. So why are we so quick to judge Gaunce and send him back?
-
Totally agree, Gaunce is anything but slow. There was a good illustration of his speed in the first period when he was chasing back on a possible LA 2 on 1 We have to remember that just because he was a top player in Utica, the NHL is faster, more physical and tiring mentally than the A and this is just his 3rd game. I hope once he gets accustomed to playing with Vancouver he will be more "physical" though.

Sweden and indeed Europe do pretty well though, considering how important other sports are in these countries. This is quite interesting. From NHL: "The percentage of European-born and trained players selected at the 2014 NHL Draft was the highest it has been in more than a decade. Leading the way was a heavy dose of Swedish standouts, representing 27 of the 66 European players picked in seven rounds at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The European contingent made up 31.4 percent of the players chosen; the remainder hailed from Canada or the United States. The number of Europeans who played at least one NHL game last season was 25.1 percent, which has been roughly the average during the past five seasons; the highest percentage of Europeans playing in the NHL in a given season during the past 14 seasons was in 2001-02 (33.6 percent). While Canada and the United States continue to lead the way in populating NHL rosters, it's interesting that nine of the top 15 players on NHL.com's Top 60 prospect rankings were born or trained overseas." But you are right, in the overall scheme of things there are not that many who make it here. However not all who might make it want to come either I suppose, There are about 30 playing in the KHL, some of whom tried to make it here but maybe it was too early for some. Let's hope Rodin is just a late bloomer.
-
So Hutton breaks the mould then, drafted at 147th o/a. I think there is a lot of upside playing against men. Beiga is another one, coincidentally also 147th o/a. Two of the most competitive players on our team.
-
Yeah let's always look on the down side. There must be a Vancouver newspaper somewhere needing a sports hatchet man, maybe you should apply.
-
Well just imagine how I felt watching Baertschi here at first but look how he's turning out.
