I think he may start off on 4th but imo he will be higher after 2-3 seasons. He's just too smart to stay on the 4th. He also seems to be sponge when it comes to taking coaching.

Firstly there was no cm. quote in the link above and secondly both should "articulate" the same height. I'm not questioning his size, I'm questioned the absolutely f----d up way of giving a player's height as 6.06 and meaning 6 feet 6 inches. It seems to be a mess/mix up of decimal and f---k knows what. 6'-6" is 6 feet 6 inches. 5'-11" is 5 feet 11 inches. 6.06 can only mean 6 feet and 3/4 inches. If they mean 6 feet 6 inches the 0 is redundant and it should be written 6.6 The 0 implies a decimal figure, which would make it wrong and not what is meant. So if 5.11 is 5 feet 11 inches why is 6.6 not 6 feet 6 inches? I am admit I was wrong but I'm saying the articulation of height in hockeydb is eccentric to say the least.
-
Well if you say 6.06' (hockeydb) is 6'-6" then fair enough. Google says it equals 72.72 inches which converts to 6 feet and almost 3/4 of an inch. Maybe they meant 6.5' which is 6feet 6inches.
-
He is not that big though. Just over 6'-0, so hardly a Chara

He looks like a good skater in all the videos I have seen. Quick feet, good acceleration, change of direction and good balance. For me it is about how physical he is willing to play.

I totally agree. We are witnessing a golden age in tennis and in any other age Murray would probably be king. However the more Murray develops the more Jokovic develops and unless Murray finds another weapon or tool in his bag I fear he will always be second best. What I love about tennis is the will and desire the top players show. Murray knew from past experience he was up against it, even losing the first set in such a decisive fashion yet he didn't fold, he dug deep, but in the end, it was not enough. Both are good friends it seems and classy individuals. Murray in defeat and Jokovic in victory.
-
Well both played really well and I don't see it being long before Milos is in a GS final. I don't know how much that game has taken out of Murray but even if he was fresh he would struggle against Jokovic imo. The way he took care of Fed was quite frightening. Is there anyone capable of beating Jokovic now? I doubt it.

I have said for some time now there is definitely something wrong with him. I never liked him on the 2nd line, he was always a 3rd or even a 4th liner for me but he always seemed to be a grafter. Lately that has not been the case, far from it in fact. He doesn't seem to have any energy out there at all. Something's not right.

I find the 80's music quite uplifting.

RIP Colin Vearncombe. (Black) Great music of it's time.

Will he be able to go to Utica next season? He sounds like the type of player Green could really develop into something special. Pavel Datsyuk anyone?
-
What % of those who played in the WJC tournament go on to win SC rings?
-
JR you could be right but how do you know the Sabres were not saying the exact same thing with Zack. It's often too easy to see a big youngster and say get him up and he can learn on the hoof. It's possible but if that was really the best way why do teams like Detroit not do it? Would it have really been so bad to send Jake back after 9 games? He was banged up anyway and he could still have been given set things to work on with his coaches. As for Utica I totally agree as I do about being patient. Patience was my whole point in fact.

He took one hell of a smack off that pipe. I was surprised he was allowed to play on. The guy's got b-lls. Even with a helmet on that must have hurt.

You are right he tried for certain players and he made sure everyone knew it. My point would be though that after a failure he seemed to put the whole thing out of his mind. If you need a player like Doan and you don't get him, you get someone equivalent. Gillis dithered and procrastinated and finally p---ed off all the other GMs with his attempt to "steal" players. He constantly lost focus. For instance after the SC final he asked Owen Nolan to try out in pre season and a player like Nolan with the Sedins would have been dynamite (if he had been 5 years younger) As it turned out Nolan himself said he was not fit for the NHL and walked away. What did Gillis do then? He just forgot about it. You say we made it to the SC Final "with some of his moves" but I would say most of that team were already there. So my main point was what he did/or didn't do AFTER the 2010-11 season - not much. As for drafting - again, not much. As for your last point, you may be right, but hopefully he will do better than Byron Bitz, Gragnani, Pahlsson, Ballard, Roy, Booth and some of the other duds whiling away their days, somewhere in Europe, who Gillis expected to turn the Club into SC winners. Man there wasn't a day went by after 2011 I didn't feel sorry for AV having to rely on that clown to give him some quality reinforcements.

Jake IS young but he has been gifted a man's body at 19. For some prospects that can be difficult and put extra pressure on them to automatically have everything else that goes with an NHL/AHL sized player. Specifically the cerebral part, the hockey IQ. If Jake was 180 lbs and 6'-0" we would not be having this debate. Anyone who saw Jake in Vancouver would have realised it's his IQ which is immature. Knowing where to go, when to step in, when to pass, when to shoot, when to defend etc. All these things are not so obvious when you are playing against boys with a man's body. They need to be developed, coached and encouraged. I have no doubt it will come but it will take time. What I don't like is that JB imo has made a mistake with Jake. The kind of mistake Buffalo made with Zack, however it is not too late to rectify it and get him back on track, which should be another season in the minors and at least one season under Green in Utica. I can blame CDC for all the clamour to put Jake in the NHL but JB should have known better. I think if handled patiently (like Gaunce, Grenier, Shink) Jake will be a hugely important player for us 3 years down the line but JB must stop this tendency to rush prospects or we risk setting back their confidence and their development. Ironically you can tell Willie doesn't really like it and he gets vilified on here for it, while JB is praised for forcing young prospects into the team. The fact is Gaunce and maybe Grenier and Jensen/Shink/Archie should have been the players called up to Vancouver but maybe JB wants his own drafts in, I doubt it but who knows. There is another factor here. After the next draft we will be promoting more players into Utica. If we are not promoting Utica players to Vancouver then we will never know whether they have what it takes or if they are just taking up someone else's place. Willie is imo a good coach and I would like to see what he could do with Jensen, Gaunce and Grenier. I would have liked to see what he could do with Archie too but we now don't own him so that would be difficult. You can't cheat the system. JB is trying to accelerate a process just because of the vacuum created in 20-24 year old players caused by Gillis's failures and if he doesn't watch out it could backfire massively. Worse still it could set some good young prospects back in their development.
-
I actually agree. I said not everyone. If you look at some of my earlier posts I liked McCann's compete but said he was not equipped well enough physically yet. I also thought Virtanen might have a chance because of his physique but it became obvious to me at any rate that while he had a man's body he was still lacking hockey IQ. I think injury and not wanting to send players back to their minor league teams forced some of these moves I have said all over these boards that I favour the Detroit model. Unfortunately JB seems to feel he needs to hurry this rebuild along and only time will tell what effect it will have on these youngsters.
-
Yeah that's rich. 90% of CDC were rabid in the way they demanded he start in the NHL. over half of these still insisted he should stay after 9 games (including me) Jake himself was desperate to stick. Let's not get too hypocritical with our hindsight

CHARACTER! As JB likes them.

Granted but he has to realise that Utica is night and day different from Chicago. In Utica we have great coaches, fanatical support and good players to play with. JB would surely help him to realise that it would bare no resemblance to his nightmare in Chicago.

Well I think if Hutton stays focussed he WILL be a number 1 or 2 D for us. The guy has far too much ability to make time for himself and spatial awareness, under pressure, to be considered 3 or 4 in my book. He is not small and will quite likely put on a few pounds over the coming off season. As long as we don't play him into the ground I am totally confident in my prediction. It will be interesting to see if he could pair off with Tryamkin who is also a very good skater and has the advantage of a big intimidating frame.
-
Let's not kid ourselves though. All the way through the Philly game, it became more and more obvious we missed Sbisa. Don't get me wrong, no one played badly but we were bullied by Flyers and we actually can't afford to have Sbisa out of the line up, especially the way he has been playing. Back on Hutton, I also loved the fact that despite the "baby face" he was right into the flare up (was it against Arizona?) and gripped an opponent round the neck from behind. He's no shrinking violet in that department either it seems.
-
Yeah I watched that and even I could feel the impact. I can't lie, Burr is the man for all seasons for me, now that KB3 has gone. He is our ace in the hole and has been for 5 or 6 years now. He never gives up and always finds a higher gear, in short he is the classic role model for our rookies when it comes to effort and compete.

That's a boy Baggins, do what you do best, keep the history re-writers in their place.
