  1. I think Mata is too weak in midfield. I really trust Jose's opinion on players and when he put him up for sale I thought Man U made a mistake buying him. An on form Fletcher is what Man Utd need but he is not there yet. (no surprise after the length of layoff and then coming back to play with different personal each week.) I don't like Van G's system, it doesn't work in the EPL and in fact it puts too much pressure on the defence leading to too many speculative 50/50 passes. Teams are a lot fitter in the EPL and the lower teams press much harder than in any other league.
  2. Djokovic is looking good for the title. Murray in the next round should be a bit of a walkover. I think Murray is finished and on the slide now. He doesn't seem to have the same grit as the others in the top 8. I don't see anyone stopping Djokovic in this form.
  3. I don't think forwards will want to mess with him if he is such a fiery character, not with that build. I like him he's got plenty of attitude and seems to understand the position really well.
  4. We also have our own giant, his name is McKenzie Stewart 6'-5 @ 240 lbs and just turned 19.
  5. Well after that result in front of 109,000 against Real Madrid it appears to me with the return to fitness of Fletcher and the arrival of Van Gaal and hopefully the banishing of Fellaini, Man U will rule supreme once more in the near future. Moyes was a disaster for Man U because he didn't appreciate the "United style" of football. He was used to working with "chasers" and didn't understand how to select and create a system for "thoroughbred sprinters". Probably next to Ralphie Milne this was SAF's worst choice of his career
  6. Dude people spout off rubbish all the time on here just to sound knowledgeable. It's a national pastime I would just ignore him.
  7. Good points. I hope we are not going to further delay this team becoming a contender just to put bums on seats. I would far rather see decent trades for younger players. I have nothing against Michalek or Iginla but to me they are only delaying the inevitable. I would far rather package Higgins/Hansen/Burr to teams for picks or prospects and sign someone like Niskanen. We should also consider making room for players like Gaunce, Horvat, or Shink if they have good pre-seasons. As for Ehrhoff, you can't turn the clock back especially in sport.
  8. I'm not sure about this so I will reserve judgement. He may be inspired by playing for an elite team.
  9. NOT GLEASON! Did you watch him in the leafs. He is the pits man and despite his size can't fight to save himself.
  10. I would be against signing Iginla on 3 year deal. However I would rather have him for 2 years than Vanek/Stastny for 4+ Offer Iggy 2 years at $6M/ and I would be happy. He has a great work ethic and he has a presence on the ice, doesn't get bullied and sticks up for his team mates (all of these things are lacking imo with Vanek and Stastny) No more long contracts and no more NTCs unless the player is likely to be a franchise player. (we have a GM that is comfortable at the trade table now)
  11. I really doubt that 1st or 2nd was really available. The people who are really butthurt are the fantasists who were saying on here Benning was going to rack up 1st, 3rd, maybe keep our 6th, get the Ducks 10 and 24th. You have to feel sorry for them living down there in lala land.
  12. So you are saying what? Are the scouts incompetents? I'm not sure what to make of your comments, it's not like these players are on Game Center every second night.
  13. Are you a scout. What is your hockey background? Where have you gained all this knowledge that you keep imparting to all us lower forms of hockey fan?
  14. One more time for the "hockey challenged" Jake Virtanen's Player Profile Speed – Big man speed with acceleration, agility, balance. Won the 30 metre sprint, backward and forward, at the CHL Top Prospects game. Shot – Big gun, quick finger, hits target, penetrates net. Power forward – Jake Virtanen has the size, skating, drive and physicality teams look for in a power forward – Jake is probably the purest power forward in the draft. Improvements to make – Judging by his performance in January (13 goals and 20 points in 14 games), Jake has already come a long way. However, he should continue to work on using his teammates better, push for excellence in his defensive work and exert his physicality on a constant basis to win puck battles. Draft placement – Most have Jake at or around the top 10 now but if he continues to produce at or improve upon his January pace he could go significantly higher because his size and physical skills are as elite as just about anyone in the draft. Profile from: Eldon MacDonald and Chris Ralph of The Hockey Writers - updated Feb. 26th @IssHockey - "Uses his size exceptionally well. Combines skill-set on puck w/ fiery intensity" -Nov. 27th, 2013
  15. The fact that no one, not even the Oilers got a 1st or 2nd off them just shows how they were just waving them in the air and hoping for some idiot to offer a stupidly over payment for them. I'm glad because we don't just have Jake who I think will be big for us but better still we have kept Shink. That is a big score in my book and some day we will be thankful.
  16. Yes and Willie D has a record of making good players better.
  17. It's amazing how arrogant some cdc fans are that they seem to think they have more insight than Jim Benning, Trevor Linden Willie D and the rest of the scouts. Hilarious doesn't quite cover it. This is not Mike Gillis making this pick. This is a guy with proven form.
  18. I love this pick. And we get to keep Shink. Do one Talon!
  19. That's ridiculous imo. We will have been duped. There is not that much difference between 1 and 6. Look at how these players have shuffled about. I don't trust us to get a square deal in this and if we don't we should walk.
  20. Higgins and Hansen are holding us back. They are too patchy and too one dimensional for me when you look at what the likes of LA, NY, Sharks, Ducks and Boston have. For me they are part of what is not right about this team now. I would much rather see Burr along with Horvat. He could mentor him and spark Santo at the same time. Put Shink with Statsny and keep the Twins together. Hank is more likely to re-light Daniel than Statsny.
  21. Or as Shakespeare wrote it. ay, there's the (a)rub
  22. I'm lobbying to get Lindens mother and her pals on board, maybe as head of fan atmosphere. She sounds like she is just what Rogers needs.
