  1. I don't think we even know that Shink is on offer and that may support your theory AND mine. Benning knows what he is doing, unlike half of CDC I would suggest. Come the draft, you are free to remind me I was wrong By the way from reading scouting reports I'm still not convinced there is a Tanev OR a Shink difference between Reinhart and Virtanen (assuming he is, as it appears, the 6th)
  2. How do we know that Reinhart is that player. Everyone saw with their own eyes how exciting Shinkaruk looked. For me there were echoes of Pat Kane. How do we know what HS's ceiling could be under Willie D?
  3. Because it is HS AND the 6th and maybe even more. Personally I don't think he (Reinhart) is worth it. I think there is a lot of opinion that says there is a lot of different draft orders, all the way down to 7/8
  4. I like the way you are thinking. Tallon is one shrewd cookie, I know because I have watched Florida all season on Game Center and he is building something very good there imo. The thought of them getting Tanev from us and him standing out for them is a bit chilling, having finally bought out Booth and Garrison not showing to be worth his contract.
  5. Really? I salute your terrific imagination. There was nothing wrong with our core. Torts tried to destroy it by binding it to the only style of hockey he knew how to play. It led to injuries, fatigue, tuning out and finally total disrespect of our team and their abilities. He attempted to create the illusion, only too easily gulped down by some of our "fans," that he was martyring himself coaching a bunch of "past it" old men. The Calgary "episode" should have had him fired for bringing the club name into disrepute. I would then have fought in the courts any attempt to gain a financial settlement.
  6. Except he hadn't met and talked to TL and JB then, so you don't know. I don't really care, I'm a great believer in fate and what is pre written. I'm sure Tortorella would have taken the Pens over Vancouver and look how that worked out. At the end of the day I watched a guy who couldn't have looked happier. He was like a kid at Christmas and that is enough for me.
  7. I was very impressed with Willie D at the press conference. He seems like the type of guy I would go through a brick wall for and I'm sure this will be a massive step up from Tortorella. I also liked the way that for the second time now he has spoken of utilising the players individual strengths and adapting to the opposition. I could never understand Tortorella's pig headed approach, especially from a guy who missed so many practice sessions. Lastly I am so glad we have hooked up with Willie having got rid of Gillis because I seriously doubt any coach could thrive under that kind of management style for long. I am very excited, I like the way JB has said he has had a couple of chats with Tallon and they were to speak again, not because I want us to pawn our future for a No 1 pick but because it seems to show Benning as someone who can phone up other GM's without pi--ing them off. Lastly now that I have heard Willie speak and discuss his coaching style I want to keep Kessler more than ever. I think he might regret leaving this team in a year or two and he is, at his best, irreplaceable and part of the heart of the Canucks.
  8. Horrendous! I would rather keep Etem (shaping up nicely) our 6th (Dal Cole, Ritchie, Nylander?) and the 10th (Kapanen, McCann Perlini)
  9. No way would I do that. Hunter is our future Patrick Kane. Let's keep the 6th and HS, that price is too high. The only reason I could see Benning do that is Shinkaruk's size, he may think he doesn't fit the kind of top 6 he's aiming for. Offer them Schroeder.
  10. "We may have to play a little different each night, you know the opposition's different" Willie, Willie, Willie, don't let Tortorella hear you say that. How refreshing, I'm liking him already.
  11. Just nice to see our Club set their sights and get their man. No dilly dallying, no bs, no mixed signals and no damned disappointment at the end of it. It's great to see focus, effort and a professional way of "just getting the job done" Congrats to the owners, Linden, Benning and especially Willie D. Good job guys, now let's make some noise!!!
  12. Not for me. We should keep Willie in his comfort zone. Apparently he worked with Gulutzan already in Dallas so there is probably chemistry there.
  13. Agreed, I really don't see the reasoning behind losing guys who appear to be set for/in the NHL for in effect two crap shoots and a B prospect. We have ourselves a 6th o/a and unless Tallon or Sabres come up with something tempting then we are not going to "enrich" them at the expense of our own future. 6th and Garrison would be all I would consider. (with maybe Schroeder lumped in)
  14. Apologies if someone has already posted this. Found this GoT theme tune as you never hope to hear it again
  15. Firstly I did not say "they were the best team" In any case there is any number of reasons the better team does not win the cup, one of them is horrendous injuries. I have no more time to debate with you. You are clearly unable to deal with a big disappointment such as we had in 2011 and prefer to disrespect the team rather than sympathise with them over their massive injury list.
  16. "they choked" You were sounding quite good up to the point where you disrespected one of the best teams we have had. A team where half their players were so injured they probably would not have dressed in any other sport. If you think the Canucks choked in 2011 maybe they are not the team for you.
  17. I actually feel sorry for Booth. However he never understood the "team" part of the game. Until this last season I always thought he played like he was the only Canuck on the ice. No player can legislate for serious injuries and he had a few. He was being paid far too much for his skill set imo. He was never more than 3rd line material and for that he was overpaid. I think he was a bad deal for us and we could have done better at $2.5-3M Good luck to David in the future I hope he proves me wrong with another team.
  18. "Oshie/Backes/Kesler...Nice line" That line is not nice it's ass kicking awesome! I love the way CDC now talk with confidence in terms of 2 and 3 way deals. If indeed JB does do a straight deal, a two way or even a 3 way deal how refreshing that will be for this organisation where in the past any type of deal was agonising, uninspiring and generally like a collective CDC trip to the dentist
  19. Agreed, I think there are much richer pickings out there for the Canucks if we are going to part with Kesler. Whichever form team he goes to will make them 20% better. Especially if they have the speedy playmaker to feed him.
  20. The philosophy of the self entitled and short sighted imo.
  21. Yeh they were so bad they won 2 PT's and reached game 7 of the SC finals. "On March 29, 2011, the Canucks clinched first place in the West for the first time in team history.[109] Two days later, they accomplished another first by securing the Presidents' Trophy.[110] Finishing with 54 wins and 117 points, the 2010–11 team broke the previous Canuck records in both categories by significant margins. Individually, numerous Canucks players had career years. Daniel Sedin won the Art Ross Trophy with a league-leading 104 points, marking the first time in NHL history that two brothers won the award in back-to-back years. Meanwhile, Ryan Kesler tied Daniel for the team goal-scoring lead with 41 goals. In goal, Roberto Luongo and rookie backup Cory Schneider captured the William M. Jennings Trophy for recording the lowest team goals against average in the NHL" Who would want to watch a team like that?
  22. What's the big deal? The Kings are a great hockey team. They play any style that allows them to win. Despite that there was not all that much between the teams. Both had exceptional goalies but one team was under a new coach who changed their style, had to work things out as the season progressed and yet they were nearly always (apart from game 4) on the wrong end of the "lucky stick" A couple of reinforcements and I have no doubt NYR will be deep into the playoffs again next year. Who is to say they won't win it. The sour grapes on here makes me wonder what's wrong with our fans.
  23. This might be one of the most ridiculous things I've read on here this year. And that takes some doing. Typical of we Canuck fans, we can't be gracious in defeat, even when it's not our own defeat.
  24. Well it's not really moaning if it's true. It's more like a historical trip through Canuck disasters. But you are right, I shouldn't moan about the man who destroyed our team and used the coach as his last scapegoat. I'll try to restrain myself in future.
  25. I stopped paying attention when I saw you had listed Ebbett as fast and skilful. You missed out rugged Seriously, I think you missed my point. How can you compare Recchi, Marchand, Cambell, Shaw and some others on that list to Schroeder. All these players are hard to miss due to their aggressive hockey style. Shaw is a pit bull. Andy McDonald is 6'-1" and was a 6th round draft who is a much more aggressive player than Schroeder. It is Schroeders application and attitude that lets him down. It is like he is overawed by the NHL and doesn't think he should be there. If only he had a 1/10 of what Rypien showed in determination then I might think he could make it. Not for me, sorry.
