[Signing] Canucks sign Ilya Mikheyev
Hoosierdaddy replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Oish I love the new management but this one concerns me. I feel better about it when I look at his signing with Lazars $$$. -
Positive spin = GMJB playing chess when we’re all playing checkers. Gaudettes wife gave Canucks covid. Got rid of Gaudette before losing him in expansion draft. Highmore is Motte 2.0 and has been playing out of position as a LW and will now dominate because bottom 6 players are so hard to find. Negative spin = too easy.

Can someone trade for his rights and then match? -
[GDT] 2017 NHL Entry Draft
Hoosierdaddy replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
Random observation ... I like that Petterson Dahlin and gadjovich palmu have strong relationships. I think these types of bonds will be essential to the Canucks successes going forward. The team lacks a depth of elite level talent. Something will have to help make up the talent deficit. -
[GDT] 2017 NHL Entry Draft

Agreed. I think Anderson-Dolan and Lind could also be in the mix at 33. I saw a quote today where GMJB said he'd be open to moving the 55 to get more picks later. I hope he doesn't do this. Take the top two on your list and then a goalie at 64. That'd be a solid draft imo. -

Barring any moves I think Makar and Heiskanen go 3 and 4 (in some order) unless Colorado moves Duschene. They'll go with best centre available if hes gone. -

I suggested a similar move. I think both would be great scenarios for the Canucks. Having said that, I'd also be on board with taking the two best centres available if they are have two picks in the top 10. If the Canucks top two lines have Horvat Boesser Dahlin Goldobin + + then the team in in good shape. Sutter Baer Granlund on a 3rd line, Gaunce and Virt (in heat seeking missile mode) is a team I'd be happy to support -

Ive gone back and forth on this. I think the Canucks want Makar but believe he'll be gone. I think Glass is their guy. -

I believe Makar and Heiskanen go 3 and 4 in some order. Canucks will have their pick of the next best centre (good luck knowing who that really is). I'd like to see the Canucks move Tanev somewhere like Buffalo and get their first. We could then take the next best D, Liljigren, or, my preference, the next best forward. I think there is a chance Vilardi could be there and he could end up in the middle or on the wing. Post Sedin era looks a little brighter IMO. -

I hope you are wrong on that one -
I understand he's a professional but can you really expect 'engaged' when the kid has been jerked around since hes been here? Score = bench. Get sick, come back, play 6 minutes. Watch Boeser get rock star treatment. Doesnt dress against his old club (who Im sure he would have loved to play against) but can play on the road? Why would he feel like he matters? This kid will leave to khl for sure with this kind of treatment.

WD must actually despise playing Boucher. Granted I am not an NHL coach but I just don't see what he does (or doesn't do) in comparison to some of his teammates that justifies his playing time. Has a great shift and a legit scoring chance and then doesn't play again?!?!?! I am honestly at a complete loss. I'm not saying he's great or even good but I feel like he's earned a better opportunity .... especially when the ship is sinking.

I would trade Edler for a bag of pucks at this point. I honestly don't think there is a more disappointing Canuck veteran in years. If seriousness, if anyone offers a 2nd or higher you take it and run. If not, I'd leave him exposed in the expansion draft. -
Vancouver is literally a terrible market for Jake as well. He may be better served by getting out of Vancouver where he'll consistently be held to a standard that probably isn't fair. It's not his fault he was drafted high. If he came in a 4th rounder and was out of shape he'd be given the benefit of the doubt. In Vancouver its likely the kiss of death. Most 'fans' will never get past his early struggles.

JV clearly has had a terrible start to his career (based on draft position). That said, I 'think' he is in the process of learning some hard lessons and I'd like to see him actually make the Canucks next year. The youth movement around him would be good where guys like BH, SB, and MG have made huge strides and should be great mentors for him. Plus, I think he'll be better playing with better players. That Utica team is high on heart but low on talent. JV needs skill players around him at this point IMO. Put him on a line with the Sedins (again, great mentors) and let him use his speed and physicality to help them. If he doesn't show growth being around the next captain (Bo) and playing with two all-time greats then the Canucks will really know who/what this guy is.

Thought it was great that he mentioned he texted Bachman after his win v Ducks and how it was a priority to try and watch the game down on the farm. Speaks to the growth of the Canucks top to bottom and how the young players are totally engaged. It also make me think maybe the Canucks can survive with a Markstrom Bachman tandem next year with Demko ready/willing/able to step in when the time comes. Miller's $$ can be used elsewhere and we open up the pathway for Thatcher. With Miller back he's almost definitely Utica bound and I'd rather him believe there is an opportunity if he earns it.

Megna needs to be taken away from WD like Vey was. It's literally the only way he will stop feeding him icetime
