[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Calgary Flames | Oct. 05, 2019
FaninMex replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
As I just finished the game (Europe) it may have been said but.... Turnovers and clearing the zone - Myers and the deflected pass in the zone. Hughes not clearing the zone which lead to the long cycle and goal. Starting on the back foot both games. We are seeing some exciting hockey later in the game but we are not starting it that way. I dunno the cause. Someone said you need to start last 2 preseason games with regulars. Agree with this. No jump. No chemistry. They look flat. There just seems nothing going for any player. There are spurts but passes are off. Missing hits. The team looks like it is a group of individuals playing together. For example the 2 tussles that happened in the game. First it was Myers and Leivo but Horvat and others just stood there and watched. Second, Virtanen and another pushing and giving some shots and the other 3 were just standing there looking. Powerplay. Just horrible. In 5x5 play we can gain enter the O zone without the drop pass so why do we need the drop pass when we have the advantage. Just killed the whole momentum. New powerplay entry 1. Shoot at goalie force him to cover it. 2. Horvat wins faceoff. 3. Begin cycle. Sadly, this was our best pp entry all night. Not worried but we are going to need a few more games to see the team we have. -
Adam Larsson will be out 6-8 weeks with a fractured right fibula, the Edmonton Oilers said Thursday. The defenseman is on long-term injured reserve and will not need surgery. Larsson was injured when he blocked a shot by Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes with 1:01 remaining in the first period of a 3-2 win at Rogers Place on Wednesday. Larsson stayed in the game and played 22:19. What a bully. First game and he is taking people out.

I bought NHL gamecenter so I can sleep. -
When do we hear the news that nobody claimed him?
-
From North Vancouver. Left after high school to backpack Australia and I guess I kinda never stopped. After nine years in Mexico I now live in Slovenia.

It seems Green and Benning want 2 O and 2 D lines not the 3 O lines and 1 D line that CDC wants. Thus, it is about roles and extra forwards along with anything else they deemed worthy to help them make the choice of SB being on waivers.
-
Different roles and responsibilities. If hard work was all hockey was about Biega would be our 1 D and Captain.
-
Doesn't the misses tell you to take it to the curb not CDC. Old age?
-
Indeed I am. The part I was tagging was making up a story about FA forcing Bennings hand.
-
You are as bad as local media with the garbage you make up some times

While I like that idea, I do not think our team is ready to go in that direction yet. I think there are going to be some lapses from guys like Hughes and Myers along with some questions about our goalies and if they can have a continuation of the second half of the season. I think 2 O and 2 D lines better suits where we are and allows us to match higher powered teams. Here is to hoping for what you are saying sooner rather than later though.

Still on page 14 of this most wonderfully intellectual read through but thought I would state an opinion off this. Sometimes players have no value in a trade until they clear waviers. When/if he clears then a trade can be made without losing picks. Teams do not want to trade for a player then lose them on waivers ala Benning's little mistake last year with that goalie thing.

I am on the fence with Green. Teams past have been small and limited in skill so he has played the team within those perimeters. I think that like JV, it will be a telling year for him as well. I would have liked to have seen more of a pack mentality but when all you have is Guddy and Dorsett as the tough guys it is limited. Take for instance JV. He was starting to deliver the big hits and being a gamer but then he gets blindsided by Getz and out. Over and Over we say guys run over and we had nobody to stand up to it. Was it taught or was it circumstances I do not know. However, I think it is a big cause for JV stepping back as he saw anyone that played tough get run over. There just was no back up or people that could step up. This year we are bigger and we have guys that can play that game. I think there needs to be a bit more of a pack mentality or retribution for things done against this team. This will bring out the best in JV. It will make fun for us. So, all in all, I reserve judgment on Green till the 20 game mark to see what system he has for a team with Skill, Sandpaper and a more complete team.

I really have to ask this. Is there anything you do like? Ice cream, Dogs a long walk on the beach? I ask because every time I see one of your posts it is "I do not like...."
-
I do not know Ferland and Miller on the PK. Correct me if I am wrong but when Sutter was healthy wasn't the PK Sutter with Granlund and Beagle with Eriksson? If I remember right that is when our PK was dominant.
-
Are you all the same posters? I swear every time there is ever a hiccup or anything to complain about all these less than 50 post account climb out of whatever hole and loudly claim "'I am on the whatever train the most polarizing and blah blah blah for 50 posts then disappear." Wowza!

Funny considering what Green said. "He (Virt) had about 20 really good games last year". He went on to say he expects more this year. That is what people call progress.
