Do people not understand that teams employ pro scouts for a reason? All this talk of 'showcasing players for a potential trade' is bollocks. Teams can pull up all the footage they want and will know exactly what kind of player they get and won't be magically surprised just because you put a a guy in a favorable position.

well i would agree with you entirely in theory
but some can still be fooled
the canucks built up and show cased a certain cody
to trade for zack who they hoped was the 2nd coming of neely
and sabres seemed to bite on the illusion
but maybe they think the same about the canucks and kassian
that they sure fooled us
except we didn't turn around and sign zack to some crazy contract
like they did with cody and then bought him out within a year when they realized what they had done

The problem with footage is you only get to see what the footage shows. You don't see what each player is doing away from the puck. You don't see the overall strategies taking place and how specific players are reacting to those strategies and systems.
I'm sure they do use footage in tandem with scouts, but I don't think it would make sense to use just one or the other if you want to get the full picture.
