Exactly, lean hard to riding out LE contract and don't repeat it
-
well said
-
You'll love him at 35 and 36 with a $8M cap hit? How many times have GMs gone down this road to be left with an aging player and a bad contract....I'm not going to list them, but we have one on our team already....ride out the LE contract if there are no takers and don't repeat the same mistake again...OEL will be a mistake, maybe not in the first two years, but after that he will decline....it's the kid in the candy store scenario if JB goes down this road again.
-
7 years left on a $8M+ contract for a 29 year old dman...36 year old at the end of his contract....I think JB will be heading down the wrong road here...Number 1 dman for how long?
-
Pass on this soon to be a bad contract in 3 to 4 years....how you like the LE contract? Last three years of OEL's will be the same but at $8M. No thank-you....we have up and coming dmen in the farm system that will surprise us all in a good way.

[McKenzie] Eichel may have requested trade out of BUF
Pete M replied to EP40.'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Eichel for Horvat....in a heart beat. -
How is Karlsson doing so far this year?
-
Rafferty had an amazing season...most players having a season like that get a chance in the bigs because they've proved what the can do in the league below. Rafferty has proven what he can do in the league below....24 year old making the bigs after a proven season like this one, not a big ask.

Sweden never shutdown and they have over 45% herd immunity...maybe Russia is doing the same thing to get immunity? fyi, Sweden may not have a second wave because of its immunity. The death rate is a more important stat if you are concerned.

Neely was only 21 years old when he was traded...he was a power forward and star player for Portland in junior (I remembered watching him play and happy that Vcr drafted him). To the contrary, he was doing well with the Canucks as a 21 year old player...it was just a stupid trade at the time...it definitely was a wtf moment. On the other hand, Jake is not Cam Neely...not even in the same ball park as Neely.
-
OJ is still listed on the current roster....sign of the times and yet to come. He will be on the team this coming season.
-
For the record, Avs played 70 games, Makar played 57 of them....Avs went 6-5-2 with Makar out of the line up. Canucks played 69 games, Hughes played in 68 of them....Canucks went 1-0-0 with Hughes out of the line up.
-
good work with the breakdown...however, Tanev doesn't need to be signed...Tryamkin can take his place for the playoff run, if he can be signed and play...give the young guys like OJ, Rafferty and Brisebois a chance....let Rathbone play a year in a development league to prove himself, if Rafferty, Brisebois and OJ are better options. Brisebois in the meantime can take Tanev spot to see what he has because he is ready for a similar role that Tanev plays.
-
Just for the record, because nobody is writing about it or talking about it....Hughes is one of only three defensemen to lead rookies in scoring...he is now in company with Bobby Orr and Brian Leetch....in other words, Cale Makar is not. In addition, Hughes lead Makar in scoring in the 2019/20 stanley cup playoffs. The writers also did not point that out...Quinn Hughes should have won the Calder trophy....in fact, he did not get hurt and Makar did....which makes Makar better? How did Makar help his team when he was hurt? The only thing he beat Hughes on was points per game....which doesn't tell the story, not one bit.

Didn't see this proposal before I posted a similar proposal...if there is a time to get Dobson, it is now....Boeser would have to go the other way and NYI will have to make changes to fix their cap situation. This trade would help the Canucks when they are ready to compete. Islanders couldn't overcome scoring issues vs. Lightning in Eastern Final Deep playoff run, center depth, addition of Sorokin give New York hope for next season by Brian Compton @BComptonNHL / NHL.com Deputy Managing Editor September 18, 2020 Facebook Share Twitter Share Link Share Email Share NHL Tonight: Next Steps for Isles NHL Tonight looks ahead at what's next for the Islanders after getting eliminated in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals 03:18 • September 17, 2020 Facebook Share Twitter Share Link Share EMAIL SHARE The New York Islanders were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Tampa Bay Lightning, losing 2-1 in overtime in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Final on Thursday at Rogers Place in Edmonton. The Islanders entered the Stanley Cup Qualifiers as the No. 7 seed in the East after finishing the regular season with a .588 points percentage (35-23-10) and were No. 6 in the playoffs after they defeated the Florida Panthers in their best-of-5 series in four games. New York then won their best-of-7 first-round series against the Washington Capitals in five games and eliminated the Philadelphia Flyers in seven games in the second round. Here is a look at what happened during the 2020 postseason for the Islanders and why things could be even better next season: The Skinny Potential unrestricted free agents: Derick Brassard, F; Tom Kuhnhackl, F; Matt Martin, F; Andy Greene, D; Thomas Greiss, G Potential restricted free agents: Mathew Barzal, F; Ryan Pulock, D; Devon Toews, D Potential 2020 NHL Draft picks: 5 What went wrong Top line goes dry: The Islanders trailed for a total of 8.8 seconds in Games 2, 3, 5 and 6 combined, and the series could have gone differently had they received more production from forwards Jordan Eberle, Anders Lee and Barzal. Eberle scored the double-overtime winner in Game 5 but had two goals over the last 17 games. Lee did not score in the conference final after he had four goals in the second round against the Flyers. Barzal had four assists against the Lightning but did not score a goal in the last seven games of the playoffs. New York scored 12 goals in the series and was held to two or fewer in five of the six games. Eberle's double overtime winner 01:04 • September 15, 2020 No answer for Hedman: The Islanders struggled mightily against Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman, who was a monster all series and strengthened his case to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Hedman had four goals and two assists in the conference final and played more than 29 minutes in each of the last three games. New York has depth on defense, but the series was evidence it lacks someone of Hedman's caliber. Power play: The Islanders finished the series 2-for-19 and had 34 shots on goal with the man-advantage. None of those shots came in overtime in Game 6 when Tampa Bay was penalized for having too many men on the ice. Reasons for optimism Core is returning: Thirteen players who played in Game 6 of the conference final are signed at least through next season and three others (Barzal, Pulock, Toews) are restricted free agents, so the majority of the roster is expected back. They'll be eager to build on taking another step in the playoffs after being swept by the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round last season. Sorokin is here: Prized goalie prospect Ilya Sorokin agreed to terms July 14 and is penciled in as Semyon Varlamov's backup next season. The 25-year-old was 26-10-3 with a 1.50 goals-against average, a .935 save percentage and nine shutouts in 40 games with CSKA Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League this season. He was tied for second in wins, third in GAA, tied for fourth in save percentage and first in shutouts among KHL goalies to play at least 20 games. Center depth: The Islanders are arguably one of the deepest teams in the League at center following the addition of Jean-Gabriel Pageau, who was acquired from the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 24 and gave up a chance at unrestricted free agency to sign a six-year contract with New York the same day. Pageau, who had 11 points (eight goals, three assists) in 22 postseason games, joins Barzal, Brock Nelson and Casey Cizikas to form a formidable group down the middle. Facebook Share

Cirelli scoring the OT game winner in game 6 is no surprise. Cirelli was picked 3 spots after Brisebois in his draft year. At the time of his draft, I was excited that he was available in the third round, but disappointed that JB did not pick him...the guy scored the only two goals in the Memorial Cup final, it was an indication of things to come.

[Speculation] Canucks looking to move Jake Virtanen
Pete M replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Sad state of affairs when a GM needs to consider moving on from a productive young player and still retain old broken vets like LE, Sutter and Rousell...Beagle is a hair above. -
Man, if Boeser only went high bar and in on Lehner....we would have faced the stars and probably be still playing...Canucks must have took a bit of confidence away from Vegas for the Stars to beat them in 5 games. Very surprised that Vegas got beat in 5 games.
-
How many of these vets can be moved to Utica with a $1M cap reduction for each (Sutter, LE, Roussel)?....bring up the young guys who are ready to make the next step to see what they can do in the NHL. Do this at the beginning of the season....gotta a feeling we would be pleasantly surprised.
