  1. He was drafted out of the Belarusian league, so he is very raw and starting his development from a very low base. Canucks development team are taking it slowly with him as he is as close to a blank slate as a prospect can be so therefore healthy scratches are to be expected. He was drafted because of the raw potential. He may end up a NHL top6 PF or 4th line grinder or AHL/Euro league player, we will have to wait and see and not be too critical or put too much expectation yet.

Because he is starting from such a low base I'm not worried about his playing time or stats for the first 3 years. They are clearly teaching him to think the game as well as play the game. How far he goes is up to him now, he is in a great position to succeed so hopefully he has the workrate, drive and intelligence to take advantage.

  2. Got to stop thinking of BH as a 3C and using the logic of not being smart to be paying a 3C 7m a year. The way I see it is that he is at worst our 3rd best forward and now a 30 goal scorer too. Paying 7m for your 3rd best forward isn't exactly poor cap management

    2. Find it concerning with the entitlement attitude. Dahlen showed the issues, it can bring, and tbh don't fancy the drama yet again.

Don't see the issue with a requesting a trade tbh, he wants the opportunity to challenge for an NHL gig and knows he won't have that with the NYR's. He is at the age where he needs to be in a position to challenge for an NHL gig, nothing wrong with trying to do what is best for his career. It's not like he is holding out for more money, he doesn't owe the NYR's anything.

On saying that, I don't like the refusal to attend camp. He can request a trade but he should also honour his contract and show up for work. Showing up and playing well will facilitate a trade much quicker than sitting out. He has made a short sighted decision  IMO.

Well, unfortunately, I can't find any video evidence, so I can't prove anything, but my memory says that if not 100 mph, he was shooting at least in the high 90s MPH. I remember being quite surprised, given Quinn's diminutive stature.

I think you are getting mixed up with EP40 hitting a 102mph shot at the 2020 AllStar skills comp

I think we're fortunate to have these two as a base to work with. Clark is kind of an independent operator so I don't think changes will effect him.

I guess the big question I have more than anything else, is why are we seeing this team struggle in the same manner as previous years with so much more talent now?

The roster is upgraded but coaching staff doesn't seem up to scratch. If a change is to be made who is out there to suit the canucks roster??

One highway across the state is over 800 miles.  And, if you start at the Oklahoma border and drove north to the Canadian border, it would be a shorter trip than driving to the Mexican border.

I'm intrigued by this.....when I read it I thought that it can't be true, so I went to maps and tried to find a straight line route that proved you correct but I can't....I'm genuinely curious on this, can you provide proof?

  7. 4mil signing bonus and 4mil salary, say for instance a 20% escrow is agreed and I believe the bonus is not subject to escrow. That leaves remaining income at 7.2mil and after taxes that probably lowers to roughly 4.2mil.

If he takes the 3m bonus this off season and retires he might walk away with 1.6mil after tax.

So by retiring he is probably leaving roughly 2.5mil on the table.

Considering his career earnings to date and the impact of COVID-19 it's not inconceivable that he may look at things and decide that it's time to retire after taking the bonus this off season.

Obviously these are rough figures to illustrate my point but when talking about him not retiring because he will be walking away from 8mil or 5mil after the bonus is paid is not the complete story, you need to factor in escrow and taxes before really seeing what he may be walking away from......

  8. As far as I'm concerned I don't believe any team should be hit with a penalty for these contracts. The league approved these contracts, if it was cap circumvention then the league shouldn't have approved it. At the time it was signed it was clear to everyone what they were trying to do and it was still approved so the teams responsibility for the legality of the contract ended when the league approved it.....

  9. Haven't really paid much attention to AM, so went to eliteprospects and was surprised to see that he is only 3 days older than Tyler Madden.

I'd expect him to stay the full 4 years in NCAA . Hopefully he will continue to develop and be one of those late bloomers to get time in NHL. As a 7th rounder we can't expect/hope for much more really.

  10. I like LK, he is an intriguing prospect.

I hope LK and T.Utunen come over to play AHL with Utica next season, get them used to NA hockey and Canuck systems.

Eliteprospects.com show he now has 4 assists in first 2 games for new team.

I am calling this pick a bust

he is never going to make it to the NHL ...if it’s not his lacking of nhl talent it’s his injuries

so may of us wanted MT but this was a rare draft miss by JB

win some and you lose some

I am calling that opinion ...a bust...

    You don't write off a 21 year old D.man

You don't write off a first round pick before they played there first game.

You don't call someone lacking in talent ...when it is yourself lacking in knowledge.

We will still be winning this one...!

    Just watch...!

I don't know.....for me an NHL bust is a player who is drafted high and is proven just not good enough to play in the NHL(they are either not good enough to get there or once there are exposed as not good enough). This does not really apply to OJ as injuries are what has stopped him from getting game time in the NHL and he has had no opportunity to show if he is good enough for the league. I believe he has the talent to be a NHL player even though injuries have most likely lowered his ceiling and I believe if he had remained injury free since the draft he most likely would be on the roster now.

If he doesn't make the league due to injury we cannot call him a bust, it will have been a wasted pick because we didn't get an NHL player but all team's/GM's waste picks on a regular basis.

Its better to let his career play out before any labels are applied. If one must be applied at this moment then injury-prone is probably most fitting at the moment. Hopefully he can shake of these injuries,  stay healthy and get a shot to prove whether he can be an NHL player or not...

Don't you mean how desperate would Vancouver be to trade for Kovy?

Perhaps you have a good point. They really don't need Kovalchuk. I was just thinking of ways to get Loui in a new uniform.

Only benefit to trading Kovalchuk for Eriksson is he has one less year of term and is easier to buy out.

Actually, yes. Spent a week in and around Vilnius. Even got used to the bow ties fairly quickly.

You have your Baltic countries mixed up, Vilnius is in Lithuania, I imagine you had to fly into Riga though as Vilnius airport is quite small.

I hear Vilnius is a very pretty old city with great historically-themed restaurants and pubs.

Very small city and yes the old town area is well kept with the old architecture.

  14. What are the odds NG has a KHL deal lined up?  - in this scenario he'll come to camp without signing his QO and if he plays well and makes the team then sign the QO, if not then he will jump over to KHL. It's a risk to play camp/pre-season without a contract but could be a risk worth taking. Unless there is a rule that states you need a signed contract to participate???

If canucks pay him 12 mill he takes home 6 mill after taxes. In Florida he would take home 7.5 mill.

    1.5 mill more per year

I don't know the ins &  outs of these things but I'd imagine the agents negotiating these contracts take a similar stance to the European soccer agents, as in rather than negotiating based on gross pay they will enter talks with a post tax dollar figure that they want. So in your example above he may want 6mil which would mean 12mil cap hit if Vancouver signs him or 10mil cap hit if Florida signs him. That would be another reason for NTC, protection from getting traded to a less tax friendly city.

It protects the player so he gets the salary he wants with the team he wants as long as the team accepts the cap hit. It does put teams like Vancouver at a disadvantage against the Florida teams and teams in other tax friendly cities

You maybe right but maybe 3 years for both of them but I am a bit of an optimist. :)

I'm not expecting Woo to compete for a spot until at least his D+4 year, even then only as an injury call up. Will probably spend all of his waiver exemption time in AHL & having to fight his way into line-up on his 1st year of waiver eligibility.

I'm thinking Scotch Ale or Porter.

Gudbranson is definitely not an Irish surname, and Guiness is almost a stout. Guddy is not stout.

And although it could be Germanic, Gudbranson rolls off the tongue easily went pronounced with a Scottish accent.

Scotch Ale is always a strong beer to boot.

    Definitely not a Scottish surname, It's a Nordic/Scandinavian name.

An Akvavit would go down well.
