  1. I find it hard to believe it took that long to make this deal. Seems that could have been done in the summer. It wasn’t very complicated. I really like Alex Tuch as a player and would love him but am glad he is in the East. He killed us in playoffs. will be curious how this all shakes out with cap.
  2. Alex Tuch is a hell of a player off the scoresheet. They will mss him. They will TB it this year and bring him in when playoffs start. Healthy they are $10M over the cap. They aren't going to fix that in season.
  3. That graph ended almost a decade ago. Not exactly current trends.
  4. Finally got to watch third. The legend of Thatcher Demko grows. Holy crap what a sequence. Nice one for Pods. Garland is such a great pickup. So much fun to watch.
  5. When picking how the Canucks would screw up the season, zero offence was not what I would have picked. But wow they are giving it.
  6. No surprise what they are doing to Petey, started in first year. Get in his chest. No subtlety to it. Don't give him room, don't watch the puck. Close distance, gives him no room to move and he will mostly lose the physical battle. Happens to every skinny young guy that comes along, that is the NHL, needs to figure out how to get around it. This year he has spent more time in the periphery and his shot has been off.
  7. The other part of the Canadian formula is scraping into the playoffs and riding a hot goalie to a SC final loss. Over the last few decades that is the only way Canadian teams seems to succeed with a few exceptions (2011). Pressure of the Canadian market to always be competitive.
  8. They will rally and move up to around the 12th pick by end of season. The squishy middle is where this team looks destined. Not good enough to compete, not bad enough for a top pick. The Canadian team formula.
  9. Groundhog Day. give up early goal, Demko keeps in, disappear for long periods despite being down, concede centre of ice in all zones and mad push at the end with goalie pulled. Same game every night.
  10. Yes, they announced he is keeping job. Would have nice to see him at least acknowledge that he failed Beach personally if nice is really the right word here.
  11. His are gritty, not large. Chafes terribly I would imagine.
  12. Apparently when this came up in the meeting during the season (2010) Quenneville piped up with the comment that they should worry about this after the playoffs.
  13. I am not really arguing here. I have been commenting about the totality throughout the thread, this was only one small part. I do think you need to remember this is a hockey forum, not a forum on sexual assaults and so that a lot of the focus of this thread is on hockey should not be surprising and should not be taken to assume that any of us think that Aldrich shouldn't be prosecuted or otherwise dealt with severely. I also don't think I need to comment on whether he needs to prosecuted or not, it is clear he does, that is not debatable or in question. He has already been in legal trouble, that is how it originally came out from his dealings with junior players and there are civil suits ongoing. I have made no comment on the fines or draft pics or any of those specifics, if anything I have been saying that this hasn't looked far enough into why the PA and NHL haven't done more over the 11 years since this incident and thing Bettman and Fehr need to be held under a lot of scrutiny here. I don't think "it happens" is really an acceptable response to powerful men getting away with these things. Clinton did not pay much of a price and the others mentioned paid no price. I guess the good news though is despite some setbacks, awareness and progress is coming. We see some powerful men like Weinstein and Cosby finally getting some consequences for their actions at the same time that we see some politicians seemingly rewarded for this behaviour.
  14. I think it is relevant in showing if they are taking it seriously. If there is a under the table deal that says step away without a fight and we will still pay you what you are owed it shows that this isn't being taken seriously other than as a PR exercise. Now that was a comment on the firing of Quennville specifically not on the entire Beach incident which I think has been handled atrociously by the Hawks dressing room, management, coaching, ownership as well as the PA and the NHL. They all should be reviewed including Bettman and Fehr and we should have seen an ownership review of the Hawks started by now. Too often you see the abusers still coming out of it with everything intact. Trump, Jim Jordan have never paid any price for their sexual abuse or enabling. There is significant difference from saying you are banned from returning to the game to you may return if meeting certain conditions. Now I have professional requirements to say it this way so: Dammit Jim, I am a doctor not a lawyer, so I don't have a great idea of the details here.
  15. Always knew it would take time to come together but what is frustrating is that we seem to keep making the same mistakes, have the same problems, are not ready to play most nights and just lay down and give up for at least one period every game. We concede the centre in all three zones of the ice without a fight, passive on the PK and defence, struggle with the breakout and are to static on the PP. We get pinned in our zone and don't seem to have outlets and when we do we put the puck in their feet. Same problems last year and year before. Now with Petey and Brock struggling we can't outscore those issues. Add brain cramps from Myers and Miller 2-3 times a game giving up prime scoring opportunities it is tough to win especially when we always start from down a goal early. I am starting to think a change will need to come but if the coach is going, frankly the guy choosing the coach needs to go with him.
  16. I imagine the return at commissioners discretion clause is more to prevent law suits. The real question is are they getting paid any of their contracts?
  17. Guess Schenn was trying to let the rest of the team know that there is a hockey game tonight.
  18. Can we talk about one good part of this story. Brent Sopel has been fighting for this to come out in the open. Took a former Canuck to straighten out the Blackhawks bull$&!# and cover up.
  19. To be clear I am not defending any of this especially the Blackhawks. I was just responding to a post which is why I focused on the PR side of things to show yet another area the Blackhawks have done a terrible job of handling this. It is just another example of how they haven't taken this seriously. What kind of billion dollar entertainment company puts one of their stars in front of the camera without prepping them for something like this. One that does't take the incident seriously.
  20. Hockey players do get some media training but it is more about saying bland cliche things about hockey games. It must have been horribly difficult as the captain of the team to be thrown in front of the cameras immediately after a game to talk about the sexual abuse of a teamate. I am not excusing him for his callous statements during the interview but this is something he probably hasn't spent a lot of time thinking or worrying about. The qualifications for captain of an NHL team are not that you can go and speak meaningfully about sexual abuse or survivors. Now he should have been better prepared and frankly sending him out in that situation without better prep is an embarrassing mistake by a franchise that has not taken this seriously enough at any level. This is a comment on how to handle media and frankly opening him up for liability not about sexual abuse. I am not excusing him or the management of the Hawks for that but the media handlers should have had him and Kane in a room prepping them for several hours before any interviews were done. This is a billion dollar organization that has a huge public footprint that looks like it is being run by a bunch of Frat boys and keeps hurting itself with self-inflicted wounds.
  21. Frankly I don't usually like to call for peoples jobs but I do think at least coach Q should be out of the league and probably Chevy. At the very least it shows that the league is taking it seriously. Now it seems they have done the absolute minimum.
  22. You know, if any organization should have been aware of this it is the Blackhawks. They were there watching Fleury's decent into alcoholism in part because of his assaults from his childhood.
