  1. And it’s great for those of us who are out east. Can actually watch the hole game without having to be a zombie at work, though it is Friday.
  2. Not saying they didn’t suck last year. They absolutely sucked. This is a team that’s most important players were in second and third years and all the vets sucked hard. Even Miller looked off, even now his timing looks a bit off. This team was bad before COVID hit them. That and loosing Petterson who had a slow start. Even the goaltending wasn’t stellar. Not arguing that. The 23 man roster currently has 13 new players. I think the problems have been addressed to a striking degree. Is a perfect team, no. With more than half new players are they going to need a while to figure each other out-absolutely. This team has the potential to be very good but need to be led by Petterson and Hughes and they are the first people that would admit that.
  3. Not sure of legality of streaming in NZ. Lots of easy options there if can’t find legit. For everyone else it is time to stop the regional blackouts it is dumb and pushes people to illegal streams. Really gets harder to justify paying for cable when they blackout your favourite team. Only reason I keep it is elderly mother who hate watches the news all day (not fun).
  4. Am a doctor, though that is secondary, this is hockey message board. I have no obligation to stay neutral about what anyone says on a hockey team message board. What I was saying was that when you say to leave religion out of it and then follow up by insulting the non-religious you are belittling your own point. I am not making anything up out of thin air, just highlighting the hypocrisy in what you said there. I was making no comment on vaccinations or even religion or religions.
  5. During a season with no camp, almost no practices and extended absence because of COVID., the areas that need the most coaching are hard to address.
  6. I get that part where you are frustrated. That system sounds awful. I have always got results back in 24hrs (Ontario not BC). The part I don't get is that if you are feeling unwell, you think it is punishment staying home and that if it is the flu it is okay to just spread it around. I thought at the very least this pandemic would help get rid of the going to work sick shows i am strong/good employee idea. Now if what we are talking about is a gastroenteritis (one of my pet peeves is people calling any stomach bug a flu) and you are double vaccinated and have recovered then there are no testing requirements for return to work.
  7. "Please leave religion out of this." Now insult non-religious people by calling them heathens and then put your religious beliefs into at the end. Way to really make that point.
  8. He is big, right shot and goes to the net. These are things lacking from almost every team. Obviously there are some deficits in his game or he wouldn't have to keep coming on PTOs but as a depth player/PP specialist that will provide screen and traffic in front of net he has value. On a league minimum deal then am good with it, if he falls off, Abbotsford is close by.
  9. That elbow to Quinn's head was nasty and put him in a very vulnerable position as well. Media would have been all over it had someone elbowed McDavid in the head and sent him flying into the net but when it is McDavid taking the cheap shot they ignore and tell us about his grandmother. Who knew he had a grandmother, maybe even two.
  10. Some props should also go out to Quinn and Poolman for how good he looked as shutdown D matchup. Against a line that is more of a skating and attacking line, both of their mobility and smarts come through. Wouldn't want them against the big puck possession lines but we have a pairing that averages 6'6" for that. Burroughs looked good last night too, that Rathbone Burroughs pairing never really looked like they got into much trouble.
  11. I feel like the Hogz-Lammiko-Podz line is an inevitability and will be amazingly fun to watch. Hogz was a buzz saw out there. The amount of plays he just saves and keeps possession on is really amazing. Demko was fantastic. I thought Garland looked a bit invisible in the first but woke up in the second and was one of the better forwards that period. A lot of changes on the team and going to take a bit of time to come together. Third period comeback is a good first step.
  12. Edmonton’s forwards look a lot better with Hyman and Foegele. For all the whining and hand wringing about our D, I still like it better than Edmonton’s. Goaltending too.
  13. This is an apples to oranges comparison. So many structural and cultural differences between Canada and Japan as well as climate. A couple more viable comparators would be Sweden and other Scandinavian countries. Sweden decided it would go for natural immunity compared to the relative restrictive measures taken by the other Scandinavian countries. They changed course because how poorly they did despite other structural advantages they had. Or even better compare Alberta and Saskatchewan to the rest of the provinces in the fourth wave. Ontario’s 4th wave was a blip, Alberta’s was a tragic near collapse of the healthcare system. You also don’t bring up the success of Australia who have used more aggressive restrictive measures to control things very effectively, not like China but much more than North America. Japan is the anomaly and while there is value to figuring out what it is that works there but to just say that because of them we should just pull back measures is foolish and ignores the rest of the clear, more relevant examples of what happens and would have tragic effects.
  14. I will answer a couple things, though my COVID fatigue is more related to dispelling misinformation on unwilling ears so I won’t go into detail. Vitamins are useful for specific deficiencies/malabsorption syndromes, but other than that a waste of money. Study after study have shown this. I love that centrum advertises that they are the most studied multi-vitamin, they just don’t tell you that the studies show they are useless. Eating local has generally been shown to be more important than eating organic. If you can’t afford whole foods, don’t shop there. I don’t and I probably could afford it. Lots of other options for fresh fruits and vegetables. Delta strain is an escape variant in that the antibodies produced from immunizations are less effective in lab studies. That being said it is still very effective at decreasing transmission and doubly so at reducing serious illness. Perfect no but still very effective. The term natural immunity is maddening because that is what immunizations stimulate. It is the same immune system. This has been one of the big lies that people believe, catching COVID is more effective than immunization. This is bunk pure and simple. The studies show it is about half as effective and more short lived. The only positive result so far is that one study suggests COVID infection followed by immunization gives an even more robust response than two shots. Currently there is no protocol though to say COVID and one shot is enough.
  15. My passive aggressive meter just redlined. I agree on Sutter, that was the one move I really didn’t like in the summer.
  16. Petterson, Boeser, Hughes, Hoglander, Rathbone, Podkolzin. That is a lot of players in key positions with under 3 years pro experience. Worked extensively with Jake and OJ. The NHL is not a development league. Persson was sent to Junior early because that was the right place for his development. Woo isn't ready, Lockwood is probably better served continuing to work on PK and see if he can develop at least a little scoring touch in the AHL. If we add these players that aren't ready, just can't see this year going very well.
