  1. Depth signing. Someone who can and will stand in front of the net. Can bury contract if not working out. Nothing to complain about really, though that won't stop it.
  2. I do worry about a team that has Hoglander, Garland, Hughes, Petan, Hunt, Rathbone and Petterson (though not short is very slight)on it, especially given the loss of Gadjo and now our goon. Luckily the new guys are decent sized and Chiasson is a good 6'4"
  3. I think that is actually the third line, the shutdown line. Hoglander didn't have a great camp. Green criticized him at times for lack of consistency of effort. He was out best player in at least one game though. The nice thing about depth is we have other options to try. A top 6 winger was going to end up on third line, we have enough that it was inevitable, especially when Miller got moved back to left wing. He also has some of the best possession and shot suppression numbers on the team. He could help a lot with keeping other first lines in their own zone. Essentially if you had to pick a "top 6" winger to go on third line, he is the best choice in that he actually keeps the puck in the Canuck's possession.
  4. They announced he is dealing with long-COVID and doesn't sound like they expect him anytime soon if at all.
  5. Benning's latest interview sounds a lot like he is expected to show up in Abbotsford while the Canucks are on road trip and join the team when they get back.. He also said he would be in camp so don't know how true that is.
  6. Ooh, shiny object. If we are going to burn assets it probably shouldn’t be on another winger. If he was a right D then great but top 6/9 wing is pretty set.
  7. Making too much of the order they were written in, that is really the third line. Someone needs to play on the third line and Hoglander has some of the best possession stats on the team. He seems about the best suited to it and has been fairly criticized by coaching for inconsistent effort in preseason. Would rather see Pearson down but Green seems intent on keeping him with Bo. In the end makes little difference, as soon as we start to struggle, lines go in blender.
  8. I think when looking for 7-8 d-man, low event hockey is what you are looking for and that doesn’t bring people out of their seats. I will wait to have a look at what we got from Panthers but I definitely would have chosen OJ aver Burroughs or Hunt. Definitely felt like the off-season went from really good to preseason feeling apprehensive. Luckily preseason counts for nothing.
  9. A couple more showing promise in junior leagues/college. Aidan McDonough, Zlodeyev (I am sure got the spelling wrong there.) They are reaches. Woo and Klim have a long way to go to get to NHL. Focht is a long shot. Lockwood and DiPietro look like only good bets to be NHL ready in the next year. A combination of graduating prospects and a constant trickle out of pics and mid level prospects have left the cupboards almost Gillis bare.
  10. The Trotz coached Washington team was one of the best coached teams I have seen. Constantly skate as a five man unit, not a collection of individuals.
  11. Green has always tended to carry 8 D 13 F, so even less need to send one down. With a rotation and injuries they should each get at least 50g in the year. For rookies that have either major injury issue or coming out of college with two shortened/interrupted seasons prior, 50g seems like plenty.
  12. I would think the leash is short for both Benning and Green. This team should be a playoff team in this division.
  13. I don’t get the Green doesn’t want to play the kids. Petterson, Hughes, Hoglander played key roles in rookie years. Boner and Podz are going to play a tonne this year. We brought in a bunch of AHL/NHL tweezers so that we would have depth when injuries occur and coaching spent more time putting out the new guys to better see what they had. I think Green is comfortable with the core. This is the NHL not a development league. I know we get invested in the kids as we watch them develop but what team is rolling out a core this young and bringing on a bunch of rookies while they are trying to be in a competitive phase?
  14. I like that Chiasson has size and goes to the net and has scored 20 in the league but man he was awful last night. If he can’t kill penalties that roster spot should go to someone else. So, expect next news item to be Canucks sign Chiasson.
  15. Congrats Deb, enjoy the game. So are we going to see an almost opening night roster or give those competing for final spots one last chance? I still and hoping to see what OEL and Petterson look like when look like on ice together. Think their games compliment each other well.
  16. There are a number of rules about how much an NHL team can actually do especially when dealing with NCAA players. I would think by this level that the players would have every aspect of their game dissected and worked on. I suspect a lot of the time they get the analysis and told what to work on and then get left to their own devices unless on AHL team. At the pro-level they really don’t get much in the way of skill building mostly systems. There really isn’t all that much on-ice practice once the season gets going. I remember hearing a story about Bo’s dad meeting up with Olli Maata when he was with Penguins and Bo was in junior. He asked Olli what Bo should do, and got told to take in all the coaching now because in the NHL there is almost none when it comes to skills.
  17. Team needed the big-D. With our top 9 and cluster of offensive D-men, I don’t think offence will be an issue. We need someone to play a shutdown role and have since Benning got here. Sutter was brought in to do it, Beagle was brought in to do it…D is the best and cheapest of them so far. Offence would be a secondary benefit but I don’t think scoring will be our issue this year.
  18. 4 years as Utica coach. He worked his way up through the AHL.
  19. I really have not liked Hunt’s game. He is versatile sure but I kind of prefer the 8 including Rathbone, OJ and Bowey. At least until/if Hamonic plays. Borroughs is a decent depth call up.
  20. I really liked both Bowey and Bailey tonight. Could see Rathbone-Bowery on nights playing teams like Oilers and OJ-Schenn on nights playing Flames sort of thing going on.
