won't work orally. maybe when they are injecting Trump bland bleach into their veins.

the numbers that have been coming out for long-covid appear more like 20-35% range of infected.

42 home games +Calgary and Edmonton away games. Pretty much any road game in US is a no go and he doesn't get paid for the days the team is away. Still will make more than half his salary if he shows up. Playoffs are more/less problematic depending on who you are playing. At this point we are better off having him for 50 games. This makes a lot of assumptions though that we are unsure of. Should know more by tomorrow I hope.

I can't answer as to why governments do things. Some of it is the interconnectivity of supply chains. Places like Florida down play and deny everything because of their dependance on tourism and snowbirds. The rest is politics and not my field. It isn't replication or even mutation that is increasing. Mutation mostly comes from errors in replication and the enzymes that replicate DNA or RNA make errors at a pretty predictable rate. Most are silent or cause major issues and disappear. What changes though is selective pressures and these can lead to areas of rapid change. In theory this includes the development of escape variants like Delta but that doesn't change for immunized or unimmunized who have had the virus. In general viruses will drift to more contagious and less deadly. Delta is nasty because it is more infectious and more deadly but the generally low mortality rate of COVID takes a lot of the selective pressure in terms of fatality off, point one above about global travel also mitigates this selective pressure somewhat. When a virus is replicating in a village, if it kills everyone quickly the virus burns out. In a planet of seven billion people that jet all over the place it just doesn't get isolated, it keeps finding new populations to divide in and so it can keep going even if it is incrementally more deadly. "Natural immunity" is something a lot of people tout and often mis-state the value of. It has value, it just has been shown in this case to have less value than immunization. Suggestions from Israel show that it is about half as effective as the Pfizer vaccine. Often get the questions of why don't they just do the antibody test to see if I am immune. The answer is that we don't know what level of antibodies confer immunity so all that the question answers is have I been exposed to COVID at some point. What to do about anti-vaxxers, I don't know. My experience has been that the reasons are multifactorial. A lot of the time it is people who feel powerless because of past trauma or other life issues are trying to regain control of their lives and have found a similar angry group of people on-line. Much like the Q silliness or almost anything to do with Trump, the aggrieved come together in an echo-chamber and amplify their perceived sleights into an angry milieux of conspiracy theories. There are a few that have reasonable if misguided concerns that sometimes can be discussed rationally and then a number that are just assholes.

They can suspend a player for not showing up to work though. If he doesn't opt-out and doesn't show up then absolutely they can suspend him. Protocols for an unvaccinated player who shows up to work but can't travel with the team or gets sick is they are suspended for the days they aren't with the club. Whatever the issue is I hope it gets sorted soon. The opt-out option ends tomorrow so we hopefully will have a better idea wha is happening by then.

He refused trade to Vancouver before and is kind of what we have, not necessarily what we need. Ben Hutton is available I believe (That was meant as joke).

Elias Pettersson | Quinn Hughes - Contract Discussion Thread
DrJockitch replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Canucks Talk
He has a couple days to decide if he wants to opt out of season. He could retire but seems unlikely, especially if rumours are true that he wants to be traded to US where he can get more games in. Do we call this COVID irony when unvaccinated person asks to go where the pandemic is worse? I think if he chooses not to opt out of season, not to retire and not show up he can then be suspended as a no show but probably not until season starts. -

Oh, no doubt he wouldn’t have signed him but the situation is what it is. Is it better having him for 50 games or zero? Can you really trade a stay at home RD for another stay at home RD without taking a significant haircut? We are Canucks fans, we don’t get perfect we need to make the best of the situation we are in now. Even if he retires and we have the money, Jason Demers is the only UFA name of any significance still out there and his history with Canucks is not good. -
Adding to the trade issue is we really need a physical, right sided stay at home D and can’t afford more than Hamonic’s cap hit. so, who gives up exactly what Hamonic is for Hamonic without it being a significant downgrade or Benning burning more assets to get rid of UFA signing.

Players on American teams can get away with being unvaccinated. They will miss a number of games but should still be there for the majority. Canadian teams just can’t. They would miss a large number of road games. Is Hamonic worth having if he can only play Home games + Calgary and Edmonton road games. The answer is probably until a replacement can be found. Not assuming anything here but based on current conversations. I won’t get into how foolish going unvaccinated is with a imunocompromised kid at home is. Ugh, got sucked back into COVID talk in the hockey forum. -

Watching OEL play last night makes me think of how good a match he is for EP’s game. He should be salivating to get back and play with him. The agent really just seems towant to walk him up to UFA and get him control ASAP. Doesn’t mean he wants out. That or waiting for all of Hamonic’s and Ferland’s cap hits to get out of the way to squeeze every cent out of Benning. -
I wish could give multiple thumbs up here. Can we please just keep the COVID talk out of the hockey forums. They can go in the COVID forum. There is little point to it now. It is just people feeling aggrieved because they don’t want an immunization or people feeling aggrieved because they are being put at risk unnecessarily. There is no logic to it anymore just stubbornness and emotion. There is enough of that on the hockey forums for hockey related things.

Will be good to see OEL-Poolman against NHL competition. They looked great last night against mostly AHLers. The Rathbone/Hughes Myers potential pairing should be exciting at both ends. Someone needed to tell Myers if Rathbone is leading the breakout he needs to hang back. They had both D jumping up and leading the breakout at one point last night.

Thought he looked really good last night. Great mobility, getting in lanes, active stick. Nice match to let OEL do OEL things. Our right side looks thin with Hamonic, without him we really need Poolman to play well and probably a lot.
-
Was only able to watch the first but liked a lot of things. First, OEL looked fantastic, there was a sequence where he cleared the puck, chipped it in, forechecked, got the puck, brought it back walked the line and setup Bo. Was just amazing to watch. A few Winnipeg fans say Poolman is only a depth guy and we all take it as law here, he looked really good. Incredibly mobile, well positioned, active stick and just long. Looked really good with OEL. Gadjovich is not only playing at a different pace, he is making plays at that pace. That setup was gorgeous and he was hitting everything in site. That Gadjo, Lockwood line had a shift that I saw them get five solid hits in about 20 seconds. I hope Gadjo makes the team.

Wonder if the agent hasn’t been looking at Hamonic’s 3M and telling Benning he has 3M more to pay his clients. -
Would have expected a PTO for a right D by now. without him the right side seems very thin. Anything available on the right side?

One NHL game trumps the careers of most of If not all of CDC combined. Getting to the NHL is an amazing feat. I know not the career you hoped for but don’t let the armchair GMs get you down.
-
Here are my hopes for tomorrow. We can go through a game thread without bickering about COVID. We don’t make grand assumptions about players after one exhibition game with only 3 days of practice and no systems work. That and would be nice for unsigned players to sign and for signed players to show up. Think I will be 0 for 3.

Okay, why do the Michigan clothes have Air Jordan on them. He played for NC. Just seems wrong. ‘I know it is an internal Nike brand but still seems wrong.
