  1. This was perfect until the end. If we keep trying to fix our problems with UFAs we will keep repeating our mistakes. Weaponize the cap space for useful pieces, get pics and prospects for it to take contracts that end soon or on deals like Anaheim did with Klinberg with every intention to trade. This is a tear down and we need to stockpile youth and pics. Unfortunately I expect if management can do what you list the intent is fully to do what you said with UFAs and Benninging this thing up even more
  2. If he has good value I think TB would be a great team to send him too. No way they can sign him in off-season so chance to bring him back if Allvin could actually trade a player off the main roster. NYR may be similar situation.
  3. In many ways, just a tough spot they were put in by Benning but they have compounded it. ‘The market was particularly sensitive to losing valuable assets for nothing after the debacle that Benning created. Ultimately they didn’t lose traditional assets for nothing which was a good thing but they also overvalued what they had and further paralyzed themselves by not being able to move anything of significance out. I wonder if old school guy like JR just doesn’t value the asset that cap space is well. When faced with having to correct their mistakes they had to walk down the Benning path and start auctioning off pics and prospects for cap space. ‘They got greedy on Miller and then he came back with a surprisingly low number. So they signed and probably still hoped to trade or even more confusingly thought he was a centre. I think this was a mistake overall, I have never been that enamoured with him even last year. They probably assumed they could move money and that Bo would come in lower. When they weren’t able to move money Bo got really hot and the team still was awful so now we are probably needing to trade him or take a bath and pay to get rid of Brock or another big contract. Brock is a player made for what the league used to be or a team that plays puck position game. Again they signed him to a reasonable contract considering the situation Benning left them in. Again I think they were concerned about the look of loosing an asset for nothing or how it would look to cut him loose right after his dad died. I think you can build a championship calibre team around EP and QH but as structured this isn’t close to it. ‘I have said this every year since he got here, if spending any assets the return NEEDS to be a partner for Quinn. Doesn’t matter what the asset is, cap space, Bo, draft pics or prospects, what the return NEEDS to be is a potential partner for Quinn. We need to add about 5 young RHD to the system and eject a couple that are here. An elite prospect to play with Q is priority number one. I have said this every year and the response has always been the same, more wingers or even more confusingly a trade for a broken down LHD that needs to play the same role as Q and has a massive contract for a lot of years. Unfortunately the only way this group becomes championship calibre is by getting into the high end of a few more drafts ideally while adding draft pics and prospects, not dumping them for developed C-level prospects. To not be completely negative, the new group has done wonders with Abby. I like to see that the road to Vancouver is starting through Abbotsford. UFA Acquisitions have mostly been good. Aman is found money, Kuzmenko has been better than advertised, Joshua is a good add for 4th line, Mik is quality but a luxury we could not afford, Lazar is Meh. The Bear trade was good value. Didn’t like the rest of the trades but these are minor pieces. ‘They inherited a mess and have made enough minor mistakes that the mess looks worse. Doesn’t help that time after time we are getting negative press from the Aquillini story in camp, Rachel Dorrie, scratching Brock on hockey fights cancer night, the constant media barrage of JR saying he doesn’t like the coaching and wants to tear up the team, the very public nature that trade negotiations for JTM, Brock and Bo seem to have taken and Now Hughes talking about how Pearson has been mismanaged. The management and ownership look awful this year for a lot of reasons but mainly because they have functioned almost exactly as Benning did but with many more public mistakes.
  4. Demko is back soon so really don’t think we drop that low unless JR suddenly guts the team. Even then not sure we would be worse than the bottom few.
  5. Tanner seems like good guy and that is too bad but he is not a needle mover. ‘Deadline move next year seems most likely ultimate fate.
  6. For the first time hearing rumblings about rebuild and tanking for Bedard coming from the media. Sounds like they may be leaning with the stealth tank idea, again not trusting the hockey fans in the market to embrace what most of us are screaming we need. If true though at least we seem to finally be tipping in the right direction.
  7. If we are not retaining or taking back a bad contract that is great value but also impossible as nobody can really take him at his price without retention or a contact coming back. Factoring the value of cap space, 7M of cap space for three years is worth more than a low first round pick in todays market.
  8. Don’t bother, it just generates the typical responses.
  9. So you have now gone from the arbiter of equality to using the “I have black friends” argument and then finished the trifecta with “sexism is really a woman problem”. Wish I had the golf clap emoji here. ‘My comment was a response to someone praising this joke, not to the original comment. Would have not said anything and ignored the thread otherwise. I just commented I felt differently than they did. You are the one who took it on to arbitrarily decide and explain in great length what I should think is sexist. As you can see from the response to my original comment that there is a mixed opinion on whether that comment was sexist though it is mostly tilted toward the fairly clear interpretation that was a sexist comment meant as a joke or not. Now a number of people will never want to adapt how they use language and certainly don’t think of themselves as sexist or racist while continuing to use language that is perpetuating the problem. I also bet that the majority here that think there is no sexist intent lean a certain direction. Call me woke or whatever name you want. Not trying to cancel anyone just voicing my opinion about clearly sexist name calling that added nothing to the conversation.
  10. They certainly have broken new ground in my frustration level with the team.
  11. The group of AGMs isn’t all girls, in fact there are no girls nor is it all female. There are two women amongst the group. Adding girls to this mixed gender group was there exactly for the reason I stated. When you start with ‘I’m all for equality of women” you are dropping into the “all lives matter” territory of assuming you are an arbiter of equality.
  12. Done. Taking that and running while laughing maniacally. And I really like Bo as a player.
  13. Didn’t have reach deep or look hard or root around for deep meanings. It reads as a clear belittling statement directed towards Allvin and the AGMs. In this case by using the little girl trope that has so often been used to diminish the contributions of women. The realities of a made up cartoon are hardly a debatable point. The intent was clear to belittle and diminish the group as numerous other people have noted here. Now overall I think they have done a terrible job. But that has nothing to do with gender of the real humans or the made up chipmunks.
  14. I get the tank commander argument but we gave up a high first to pay for the tank commander and his diminutive friend.
  15. I think that is fair to reward the player that has done a lot for the club. Was what the Coyotes did with OEL, rewarded him for his service, not what he could still bring. The hard part is finding GM dumb enough to take on those contracts when the player is no longer worth close to what they make, was what the Coyotes did with OEL.
  16. I still find that statement very concerning. It shows the goal is end the short term frustration of missing the playoffs is the priority, not the long-term frustration of no cup. We will sacrifice the long-term potential of being a cup contender for the short term chance to scrape into the playoffs sooner.
  17. 1 year in. Still capped out team, still out of playoff picture, still bleeding pics while rebuilding/retooling. ‘Only difference between JR and JB I see is that Abby looks great.
  18. I think this is true but only on the offensive end. When Miller came over from a quality organization he played a better two way game. As his offence developed he increasingly abandoned the defensive side. Last year it went out the window completely so he could run up his scoring for contract and he has not been able to find it or his fitness so far since. ‘Very common to have a down year after signing big contract, this is certainly not an exclusive JTM thing but it is a concerning trend of increasingly poor defensive game if he isn’t scoring at elite level.
  19. I can hear the phone call now, “do you have any small Swedish wing prospects?”
  20. It is the inevitable end to OEL in Vancouver just probably not this off-season.
  21. I guess to stay on topic. My suspicion is that other than Bo those moves won’t happen or are more likely to cost assets than gain. I do think having JTM as second line centre and continuing to run Myers are great for our drafting. Without Bo, nobody can win a faceoff, our second line centre is allergic to defensive effort and we will have done nothing to resolve issues in the locker-room short of trading Bo. Hopefully we won’t see management continue on the Benning path as we are already down a number of pics over the next two years that you have identified as so vital, again a team doing the opposite of what they should.
  22. you may be right there. How many times have we heard JR say he thought BB only had the contract for one year, Colliton may be waiting for the big job and so far with Abby the potential looks good. Egos a LOT bigger on big club though and it isn’t like the last 2 coaches haven’t been trying to play systems, they just won’t or don’t. Coaching will be important but the problems with the club need the GM to fix them more than the coach and that is a harder, longer job.
  23. Colliton has baby Nucks playing solid defensive structured hockey that the big team refuses to play. Also seeing positive development in the kids.
