I think the math is right but I think the idea is wrong. The D needs more work than that and I don’t think there is a market for Myers or Boeser without retention. ‘Even after bonus is paid, contending teams look for stabilizing D-men near the deadline and Myers is not stable. He is an adventure at both ends. Don’t buy the “oh he is good as third line d” argument either. If I was the fan of a contender and my GM gave up assets for Myers at 3M I would be very upset. I think Brock still has some value but not at what he is paid unless taking another similar bad contract back or retaining. Cap flat again this season makes him almost unmoveable. There is some hope there he could be moved but suspect will take some retention. Garland I think is essentially the same as Brock, won’t get moved without a sweetener, a bad c)tract or retention.

Keep Myers and JT as centre. Tank commanders at work for the next 2 years. Recoup pics or prospects anywhere you can. ‘Really the most important thing is stop bleeding pics. The Benningesc movement of pics for D-level developed prospects needs to stop. ‘I think with the cap frozen another year, it is unlikely we find partners for any of our big contracts other than Bo. Or if we do it will be too expensive as far as retention and sweeteners. ‘Ultimately I think Bo has to go because of the remarkably poor management of the cap for the last two management groups. Contracts for Myers will expire or possibly get moved deadline 2024, Brock is ours for a couple more years unless we are willing to retain, same goes for Garland. We may see OEL and/or Garland bought out at some point. ‘Pearson may be moveable in last year of contract at deadline, maybe. I just think in a flat cap world, we are painted into a corner with no choice but to wait out the bad contracts and suffer through. Benning’s ineptitude would take a few years for good management to fix and I see no signs that this is what we have.

Predict The Score Contest: VAN @ WPG January 8 2023

5-3 Winnipeg. PLD. -
The ongoing myth of Myers having value. Even after his bonus is paid. ‘A 6M cap hit can only go to a few teams, mostly ones in our position, trying to improve, but are better run and have cap space. They aren’t looking to throw it away. not every player with inflated bonuses can go to Arizona and they are in the business of taking picks and prospects on for deals like this, not giving them away.

Get that but also I don’t think we should hold the young men on the team responsible for what happened 5 years ago with a different group of young men. ‘Now, the ones involved and any of the adults who helped cover it up need to be brought out into the open and punished appropriately but punishing the current group of athletes gets you nowhere.

Who among the higher priced Canuck Forwards should the Team trade?
DrJockitch replied to *Buzzsaw*'s topic in Canucks Talk
I can only pick one?! My rank list would be JTM Brock Garland Pearson wouldn’t trade the others if can pull off two of the above. May unfortunately be time to sell high on Bo though which leaves this team in a horrible position at centre ice. -

Rather get dragged and rebuild than worry about the niceties. That being said, no sweeteners. Let the bad contracts expire while we tank. Trade what we can to actually gain pics and prospects, you know what successful teams do. -
Would agree with that list though Lekkerimaki seems has had a very disappointing season and looks at best like secondary complimentary scorer.

Building around EP, you want a big fast team. We have a small slow team. ‘I like that we have sent Podz, Rathbone, Hogz, Aman all down. Time to insulate them from the losing/toxic NHL team and the baby ‘Nucks are starting to roll playing solid defensive hockey. ‘The problems on this team couldn’t be fixed in a season and will take a while to even start clearing out bad contracts. -
Find it odd the list to build around doesn’t have EP. Could have just said we need to rebuild which most already understood. Terribly managed team for the last decade and still doesn’t seem to see where they are.

(Rumour). Jake Livingstone D - NCAA - NHL Availability
DrJockitch replied to SilentSam's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
General question not rate JL. If we pay the bonus so that his actual salary for the season is 1M and we retain half (3M) in a trade, does money change hands? Do we actually pay any of the retained salary seeing as we already paid 5M? -
[Signing] Stars re-sign Joe Pavelski

I did wonder if he had hip issues that he couldn’t open up as much in the butterfly which pushed him forward when he stretched out. -
What movie title sums up this canucks season?

Stuck in the Middle With You. I know a song title, not a movie but was key to the great Reservoir Dogs. -

Neve been a fan of Hrudey and know he is Flames homer but man to see a former player throw up video segments and rip into a player for lack of effort rarely happens especially for someone as generally vanilla as Hrudey. That should drive something home for JTM you would think but who knows. Have been saying this for long time, guy needs to go. This will take a couple years just to tear the team down because of the contracts Benning left behind and Allvin doubled down on his mistakes. Unfortunate management/ownership couldn’t clearly see this team is middling at best and this is one of the great draft years to be bad. We are going to miss our shot at expediting a build around EP. Though, to be fair I am not sure it would have been possible to even tear the team down as much as is needed given the contracts that were here before piling JTM and Mik’s contracts onto the pile. At least Mik’s contract doesn’t look terrible. I think management is looking to make some changes but more the type of changes to move us from bottom third to middle third than to actually move us towards the top of the league. Unfortunate that markets like Toronto and Montreal could embrace a rebuild but our ownership still thinks that we can’t do it in our market even though so much of the fan base is screaming for it. There is always next decade. -

Or put the effort in the gym so isn’t gassed every shift first half of the year. -
When defensively questionable Miller is retreating behind the net with the puck a sixth attacker is doing no good anyway. ‘Wish Miller would have showed that kind of passion in the second period when the entire team other than Delia was napping.
-
Abandoned defence so could cash in in contract year and hasn’t been able find it since. Signed big contract and came in out of shape. This combination makes him a fabulous leader. I don’t have a problem with what he said or did on the ice and I doubt Delia does either. It is loud and passionate down on the ice. I have a problem with him abandoning a 200ft game for personal over team games and not coming in as a leader after getting a huge contract that is most likely going to force us to lose our leader.
-
Naslund and Bertuzzi were absolute critical a-holes to each other. Jonathen Toews is notoriously prickly. ‘Nathan MacKinnon is a controlling jerk to his teammates. ‘Michael Jordan was notoriously cranky with teammates. Fans need stuff to talk about when they have a middling team that is going nowhere.
-
I don’t get people thinking Myers has positive value. Maybe after his bonus is payed he won’t cost a first to move. I think Boeser ends up staying. Don’t think the market is there. Unfortunately management boxed themselves into a corner in the off-season and Bo gets traded for a return that is not terrible but not great. Low first, prospect that is not elite and a player that is useful, has more cap than we would of liked and will be maligned non-stop. ‘Pearson goes with a sweetener because we have Benning 2.0 running things. No right D of quality added and only a little cap space added to be spent in the off-season on wingers to go with the winger we draft mid round. ‘I think this team has broken me as a fan.
