[proposal] Garland for Severson?
DrJockitch replied to Ruthervin's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Frees up cap space for a player that coaching and management don’t seem to trust. No more just add sweetener deals. We don’t have the organizational depth. Severson may be good to give a trial, not always obvious who the right player for someone like Q is going to be. -
[Proposal] Boeser to the Islanders for…
DrJockitch replied to Tanti9's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I kind of get the feeling that Brock isn’t going anywhere. Who knows these days. -
"Michigan" goals should be against the rules
DrJockitch replied to Gurn's topic in General Hockey Discussion
It is not more dangerous than having a frozen hard rubber disc fired at you at 100. Fun police at work again. In my day we shattered wooden sticks every hard shot and we’re happy about it. Things change. Let’s not kill the skill. Too many rules have killed hitting what’s left if you start taking the skills out too. -

[PGT] San Jose Sharks at Vancouver Canucks | Dec. 27, 2022
DrJockitch replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Back in our natural spot, the squishy middle. After worse than expected start we are where we should be low middle of the pack. Pacific is worse than expected this year so opportunity to scrape into playoffs and convince ownership that we should hold on to Bo and all the little wingers and are a UFA away from contention. -
Mogilny turned himself into an excellent defensive player. Kessler was a better defensive centre than Pettey is now. Pettey just doesn’t quite have the strength Kessler did yet. I think Pettey will go down as best player in organization history but he isn’t there yet, there is also a big caveat that he doesn’t get frustrated by generation after generation of short sited management and decide needs a new home.

Some people have just got the simplistic approach that if I don’t agree with something it is “insert media boogeyman here”. It is silly, simplistic and reductive and unfortunately working in politics. I just don’t think Miller is as good as most on here do, is a winger, not a centre and was the wrong age range to lock up long term for a team that is built around EP. He helps put us in this cap mess we are in, will lead to the loss of the more important player in Bo and moves us further and further from being a cup contender.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
DrJockitch replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Plus JTM mostly plays the wing because he has been very poor at centre this year. -
No, not with what is around them but this also has to be put on the core as well. Can’t blame one Chaos Giraffe for everything. The team doesn’t buy in to the coach and players get rewarded for it. JTM went on scoring tear last year by abandoning defence in a contract year. Big contract, comes in out of shape, is worst player on ice for first month of season and has to be moved to wing because can’t pull it together enough to play C and keeps costing us games. Bo is following his example this year. Contract year, go to the net hard consistently but don’t back check consistently. It is not in his nature to abandon D completely like JT but the effort hasn’t been as consistent as usual. Demko was having terrible year before injury. Who knows what is coming back. I understand there are concerns about his durability. I don’t see a core 5, I see a core 2 at this point. The rest fit somewhere between could and should be moved to rebuild the team around Pettey and Q. Get a big mean SOB that can skate on right D and 2 or 3 more on wing. Build a team that creates room for EP and Quinn not a collection of smurfs on the wing. And for goodness sakes, draft some right D and don’t trade them for more wingers. Unfortunately ownership sees a team that just needs a good right D or some foolishness like that and we are stuck in the squishy middle again in one of the great draft years.

[Value Of] What would it take to get Connor Bedard
DrJockitch replied to Paul-walker's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Too late. Would have taken continuing down the path of rebuild we showed we needed at start of year. Instead we are going to Benning through this and add vets to fill in a roster not talented enough to win everything in an attempt to stay alive in the race long enough to keep revenue high and to land us another mid round pick. Incremental improvements is the name of our game, get to the middle, stay in the middle, never threaten for a cup. -

[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn

Spent the money on more wingers. Didnt have the cap to make a deal for Marino whatever the cost was. -
[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn
DrJockitch replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I know this goes against everything I have said about where the team is but if Bo is traded they should sign Schenn and give him the C. ‘Don’t want them to put it on Pettey. Everyone knows this is Pettey’s team, he doesn’t need the C. You have the player, send the message. -
[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn
DrJockitch replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Well the key there is it is our top 4, not Carolina’s. Need to have 4 better D in front of you and many nights we just don’t have 4 d better than Bear. -
3 WAY Trade [PROPOSAL] (Canucks, Hawks, Leafs)
DrJockitch replied to PunjabiCanucks's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Don’t think Chicago wants Miller. Liljegren has been good this year. Everyone discounts because in TO and wasn’t great when he first came into league. ‘Don’t want Domi and don’t understand the fascination on this board with him other than his ties to a player who is likely on the way out the door. -

That is one really good hockey player on one really bad team. OEL and Myers were $13M of awful. -
We are a lousy, broken team.

Yes that would be great and exactly what JR has been saying he doesn’t want to do. Run for the middle is the plan as always. Incremental improvements to get in the middle and stay in the middle. -
Honest Conversation With Those Who Still Support Management
DrJockitch replied to JohnTavares's topic in Canucks Talk
Agree with all of it except the last. Almost every potential qualified option would be better than JB back. The Stillman trade was about opening up cap more than acquiring Stillman but they saw a potential D I guess. Pro scouting failing the Canucks still. They needed to open up the cap because of inability to remove players from lineup while adding more wingers. -
Move Miller now! (Discussion)
DrJockitch replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I think the organization tried to get a boatload for Miller but couldn’t. The GMs see what we do. ‘Miller actually signed a pretty reasonable contract in the end, just wasn’t one that really made sense for the Canucks where they actually were/are. Now we see if someone backs up the Brinks truck for Bo but the potential of Kane and Toews in the market makes it a bit more of a buyers market. If they let someone like CBJ talk to him first they may be able to get a tonne for him yet. With retention Bo is also much easier to fit under the cap this season. Ultimately prioritizing JT over Bo was a mistake short and long term but it is done. If he wants to go and somebody wants him then I would still trade him but don’t expect the offers we got last year which still weren’t great. This group hasn’t done a terrible job with acquisitions but cap management and moving players out has been problematic. I like that we are using Abbotsford more to try and develop the kids outside of the losing environment of the big club. Successful organizations rarely throw 19 year olds straight from Europe into the NHL like we seem to. -

He took less to stay in Colorado and who can blame him. We spent all that money on more wingers anyway. -
