How are you going to feel about the 16th overall we will likely get? -

Since this seems to be a reoccurring theme, 5-1 Seattle. Beniers for the win. -
[Report] Canucks assign Nils Hoglander to Abbotsford

Good. He has everything he needs but needs to get his scoring touch back. ‘Let him mature with Podz and be insulated from the losing of the big club. ‘this group of forwards in Abby can grow up together like Kessler, Burr and Honey Badger did. -

Time for some incremental improvements so that someday we may be able to be the 15th worst team in the league and scrape onto the playoffs. One can dream. -
Yes but they were a good team that was getting stale. We are a bad team and have been for a decade.

I have been heavily critical of new management because they seem to be walking down the Benning path. ‘They have done a nice job with picking up some prospects for free with Kuz and Aman and when they sign Livingston that will re-enforce this. Their trades have been up and down. Stillman is terrible but that deal had to be made for cap reasons because of the lack of vision and clarity in the off-season. I think the Bear and Hamonic trades were really good GM work. Didn’t like the Dermott or Studnicka deals because they signal the wrong direction. ‘What I don’t like is they seem to think rebuild not necessary even if selling everyone. They are looking for hockey deals when dealing from position of weakness. Even the “everyone is available” is not “everyone is available for futures”. It is everyone is available and we are going to try to win without elite talent or depth. JR/PA made numerous mistakes. Signing JT and Mik without moving any money out was crippling and will be for years if they can’t move JTM. The cap looks like it isn’t going up as much as hoped which will only com-locate things. ‘We would have been in such a better place if Benning had just let the clock run out on Player Name, Beagle and Rous. He may have even been able to get an asset for Beagle. We would have had a high pick that year, a higher pic last year and a tonne of cap when it was at it’s highest value. OEL will cripple us for years and Garland is a luxury we didn’t need in a small scoring forward who can’t kill penalties.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

OEL is like the team. Some days he shows up some days he doesn’t. He was a fantastically skilled D man in his youth but as the game got faster and he built up injuries he has more and more bad nights. ‘The OEL deal should go down as one of the worst for this franchise. We burned a tonne of future assets to get him and Garland. Not just a high first rounder but what would have been a lot of cap space at a time when nobody had any. It also would have been essentially a tank year which we needed. We would have had Gunther or whoever got picked and probably would have been a lot higher up than drafting Lekkerimaki and maybe have been able to add something other than another winger. Part of the issue was the burning of all of our assets on a player we did not need. At the time we acquired him our biggest need was same as now a partner for Quinn. Instead we burned every asset we had on a player who should have exactly the same utilization as Quinn. He does not fit the Edler/Ohlund role he has been cast in. His defensive game has been better than advertised some nights but as he ages those nights are getting less frequent. Garland also was a nonsensical acquisition. Another diminutive scoring winger on a fairly expensive contract. All those assets burned to address our best positions. No use re-litigating the past. He is ours to bear. This will end in a buyout but maybe not for a couple years. Really sounds like JR is looking for players not pics and prospects on deals now so I shudder to see what happens next. No rebuild on the cards for this decade either. -
League saying only 1M this year more likely. ‘If Pettey wants to sign long term you sign him long term. It is up to him how much he leaves on the table to build around him. He took the Bridge now he is going to get payed and will deserve it. Even 10 is leaving money on the table the way his game is developing.

[Rumour] Canucks Getting Calls on Luke Schenn
DrJockitch replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He is the 10th most expensive defenceman in the league AFTER retention. The assumption that we will pay this much to replace is a fallacy. ‘The buyout is fairly favourable especially if after another season or two. OEL has not been anywhere near where he was last year and is a major part of our D problems. He has slowed and his turn looks terrible. ‘A buyout is the only way out. -

Agree with that group along with Pearson and OEL buyout, moving him is impossible. Only one GM dumb enough to take that contract on and he is out of the game. ‘Sounds like they still are looking for “hockey trades”. Another decade of the squishy middle. We seem so happy with such modest success. -

He has been hot in the AHL. Still looking for third line centre and maybe a second soon. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

Significantly better player than Miller so that would be more than fair, even if give Bo the extra year. ‘Would necessitate Miller leaving ideally though maybe Garland+ or Boesser would do it. ‘Signing Miller was a bad mistake for this franchise. -
If Bo goes then get rid of Rutherford!

Didn’t really like the choice of JR. Like it less after a year. I do think he is better than JB but not much and that was faint praise to begin with. -

People are saying NJ is great because they picked #1 twice. Yeah that helped but it is the depth of quality youth that they have drafted and developed from building up pics and developing players that is impressive. That is really never how JR has worked. Don’t expect him to here. -

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
DrJockitch replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Discussion heard on radio (not verifying it’s validity) was that they were offering under $8M as they felt with Miller, OEL and EP upcoming they couldn’t have another $8M+ contract. ‘Miller signing is mistake that is going to bite this franchise longer than the OEL debacle, unless they trade him this season. -

Still is. Miller for pennies on the dollar. We aren’t getting multiple firsts or prospects but at this point worth trading for the cap space and option of re-signing Bo.
