  1. Wish they would move pre-game ceremonies, anthems and intros earlier before the TV broadcast and have puck drop almost immediately at the start of broadcast. ‘TV studios complain about the length of hockey games and then put on 20 minutes of extra junk before the game starts. Move all the junk up and drop the puck at 7:05 after the broadcast team does their brief intros.
  2. Requested or not, writing is on the wall. ‘Hope they find resolution good for both sides.
  3. May also be a matter of trying to convince someone like Guerin that he wants to be there and won’t create a country club atmosphere. Just hope they get good value for him and for his sake finds somewhere he is happy and he flourishes. He has been good guy and given a lot to this team. Time to go though. Doesn’t mean has to be an ugly breakup.
  4. It isn’t that he hasn’t been productive this year, it is that he hasn’t been engaged and playing any consistent defence. Maybe with everything over the last few years he has checked out a bit, and in nhl a bit is very noticeable. If there is good opportunity to move him then move him. Never like to see youth leaving but with no clear direction for the team it isn’t unexpected. We need to move at least 2 or 3 wingers anyway.
  5. Or New Jersey or Colorado. It is starting to work with LA and I am betting Anaheim will look better than us in a couple of years the way they have committed to rebuilding. Edmonton never tried to rebuild, they just sucked and got Lucky. They got #1s but rarely drafted players outside of the very high draft positions. ‘Buffalo has been unlucky. Just because one team gets stuck doesn’t mean that all do. A tear down is the best way to bring in high level pics and a quantity of pics or prospects so that there is a group coming at around the same time. Trickling in one decent pic every other year is what we have been doing and what Edmonton did that forced them to take so long and require so much luck.
  6. May have a point with 1. I have rallied against this obsession with gaining weight in a game that is more about power to weight ratio and quickness. 2. Obviously affected him a lot. 3. He actually got to be quite good in board battles surprisingly and his playmaking improved. Unfortunately he also lost speed and puts in Miller like efforts defensively. Ni guess that is just restating what you said. Game got faster around him and he slowed down. Hopefully there is some value for him out there but this needs to be part of a much bigger tear down of the Benning era.
  7. Scoring is the hardest thing to find in this league, there will be some interest. Cap constraints mean we will need to take back a contract obviously. I think at this point Brock is a decent secondary scorer in this league but given the mix we have he was the obvious choice to go off the wing. Well, JTM was the obvious choice but that ship appears to have sailed. I think they had planned to move him before or after signing Mik but like many things with this management group, they just couldn’t get it done. When you trickle in prospects to a mediocre team that needs rebuilding you stay mediocre and end up waisting your good young players. Here is another example, Bo looks to be next and then I would imagine EP but we will have Miller and OEL until they retire.
  8. Needs to be done but tearing this team apart is very challenging. We traded away so many first and second rounders and whiffed on some high pics in Benning’s decade of retool on the fly. ‘We basically can’t trade OEL, he will need to play a couple more years and then buyout seems most likely. ‘JTM should be moved along with BB and probably Garland as well. None of these are easy deals given the cap constraints. Taking bad contracts for some vets to absorb the upcoming losses if it enhances value. Retention not really an option as the contracts are too long. If you are building with JTM on the team still you need to re-sign Bo somehow. He seems to balance Miller’s chaos somewhat and can clearly score. ‘That doesn’t even find money or space for d-men. Myers may be moveable after his bonus is payed. Moving Schenn would suck and send wrong message but you take value if you can get it. ‘It my come down to moving Bo, Schenn, BB and Garland to find assets and cap to start rebuilding around EP and QH but good lord they may be gone by the time the rebuild fixes the issues left by Benning and Benning 2.0.
  9. To be fair when management failed to significantly adjust the D and burned any cap flexibility on more wingers this was the expected outcome. Short sited and frustrating after a decade of short sided and frustrating management.
  10. Take you time Thatcher. ‘This team is going to suck hard this season and frankly that is probably the best thing for them. ‘Rather see you back healthy and mentally in the right place than come back to the shit show that they have put on in front of you too early. Maybe management and ownership will grow a pair while you are out and finally do the right thing for the franchise and the fans.
  11. For the record cap 2.55 this year, 1.4 next. He signed a extension in the summer.
  12. Seems to me that Miller didn’t come in on the best shape and took almost a quarter of the season to round into game shape, is notoriously surly and was throwing wild ill-advised passes into the centre of the ice in front of his own net. Should look in the mirror before calling people out for their immaturity. I think Boeser needs to go from a cap perspective. Decent player that has not been very engaged but may have some value on reputation. For the money and for the position he plays he almost has to go. Too many of the guys that really should go are negative assets and the only place we have prospects coming that may be able to fill positions is the wing. Really sad that wing is the only position where it looks like prospects may be coming for the next 2-3 years. Just keeping Kuz and trying to find money to sign Horvat requires him to go and probably really should move Garland as well. Pearson, Myers, OEL are negative value and we are better waiting for more favourable conditions than paying the price to lose them now. Besides, we Need some vets to absorb the losses over the next few years and these guys have shown an affinity for it. I would like to see Hoglander go down and develop with Podz and Klimovic. They can develop together in the AHL with Karlsson. Kind of like we did with Kessler, Burroughs and the Honey Badger himself. They can develop together instead of taking the beatings at the NHL level that this team will be taking.
  13. One thing we know. 7th defenceman from Tampa may be good enough for our top pairing.
  14. Yes, but the point we were discussing was that trading a young developing prospect for another 4th line winger (the one position we had organizational depth) was not a move made for the future but a win now move.
  15. Ooh, this one is very winnable. 3-2 OT Arizona. Keller GWG. Kessel is on VGK now.
  16. It is absolutely the Linden Vey era all over again, trying to fill the age gap. Our best Right D prospect was traded for Studnicka. Great prospect, no but one that was developing rapidly has good size and skating and is our weakest organizational position. Not wanting to wait for pics or prospects to develop and instead trading them for “developed” prospects that can play now. Sounds like they are making moves to try to win now to me. Especially when you see them double down on Benning’s team by resigning everyone they could to big contracts and then further destroying cap flexibility with UFAs. Management says they think we aren’t good enough but keep acting like they think we are.
  17. They are also part of a pattern of trading pics and prospects for win now players instead of building up a depleted system with little in the way of prospects. Management continues to act like we are tweaking a good team to try to make a championship team but all we are doing is tweaking a mediocre team so that it continues to be mediocre for longer. ‘But hey we had a 3 win streak against the depleted champs and a flat non-playoff team from last season so we must be championship calibre.
  18. Ooh we have gotten to the point in the thread where we are policing fandom. Your a fan if… Fairweather fans do… Blah, Blah, Blah. worry about yourself, stop moderating fandom.
  19. Well at least if Demko is out for a while it clarifies the conversation around tanking. ‘Blow it up and blow it up hard. It is the right thing to do and the right time to do it.
  20. I agree but when he came in someone needed to go out or risk the loss of Bo for yet another winger.
  21. This seems very unrealistic. We have no prospects to see good things from.
  22. As much as like Mik, kind of think spending more on the wing was a bad idea when you haven’t moved any money off the wing especially since you spent another bundle on the wing with JTM. ‘Now if we lose our second most important forward because of the short sighted signing of Mik and Miller then it is a real problem and one that JR/PA should answer for harshly.
  23. Could also argue that they have less tax, better weather and will be in a brand new arena soon as well as have a lot more quality youth coming than Vancouver as have been through tear down rebuild and building up a lot of high picks. ‘May also see Bo playing next to Matthews in that case. No doubt Arizona will screw it all up and wouldn’t be willing to spend the money on Bo until in new building but don’t discount that Arizona may actually have some appeal soon.
